Would have been hilarious if the episode was 2 seconds long and they just said “No.”
😂😂😂😂
My thoughts exactly
Should have kept the same run length but right after they both say “NO” the rest is just black screen.
That would be an amazing short - posing the question and then just a compilation of them saying no

I love this. It's like the GUNDAM acronyms that Sunrise came up with.
The game needs umpires, but there has to be accountability, and those that think they're above the game don't belong in the show. MLB has got to keep personalities in check when it comes to umpires. These guys have to be the most level-headed, unbiased people on the diamond....even when players get in your grill about balls and strikes like Plouffe.
the umpiring's been rough this year. it's such a bad look when mlb's in bed with the gambling companies and the umpiring looks like this.
Uh oh! We gotta hot take over here! Shots fired. Lol
yup, what if an umpire was intentionally missing calls because theyre betting on strikeouts or whatever.
@@aljon5947they aren't. Most bad ball/strike calls are due to where umpires keep their heads. Funny part, only older umpires are the most egregious ones. It's really a training issue.
Angel closes his eyes and guesses, he's in a world of his own on how bad of an ump he is.
I agree, but everyone seems to be upset about the wrong side of that equation. The problem isn't the umpires, it's the sports gambling, which should have never in a million years been allowed back in baseball, of all the sports that know what damage it can do to the game. It's a disgrace.
Just because controversy gets clicks doesn’t mean it’s a good thing
I agree. Sometimes people are rallying behind a topic because it's infuriating / frustrating and people hope that with collective voice they can affect change
I don’t think anyone is suggesting getting rid of all umpires, just the one who is horrible at his job.
Collective bargaining means that those two things are legally the same. Unions argue that from a legal perspective, performance is subjective. Frankly, Angel is a damn good ump in the field. He just can’t call balls & strikes.
If the technology is there to have every strike/ball called perfectly, there is ZERO reason to have any "human element"
The thing that kills me is that they don't get demoted for being bad at their job. It's like in normal life, people get promoted, demoted, fired and hired based on how good or bad of a job they do. Demote the bad umps to the minors until they prove themselves again. And then promote the good ones in the minors.
It feels very naive to think failing upwards is exclusively an umpire problem lol
Saying its good for the game is a wild take. Imagine thinking having bad officiating is a good thing.
Good for the game is an interesting phrase, which usually means it gets casuals or social media more into it. Increased interdivisional play is another example where people throw that phrase around
Baseball goes up against the NFL, NBA & Hockey.. Its getting people to talk about MLB which 5 year ago wasn't happening.
not good for the game but good for TV and keeping conversation
good for sports bettors.. that's about it. Angel has been SOOO bad I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the take at this point.
@@matthewtucker1262 but it's not true here? Like does Trev actually think anybody who doesn't watch baseball sees a video where umps are blowing it and decides to tune in for the next game? Or do they go "oh yeah, this is why I don't watch baseball)"
extremely extremely rare Trev L take
Does he actually think there's anyone on earth who's not a baseball fan that sees a bad umpire and goes "oh yeah, I want to see more!"?
Like those get more clicks because people that hate baseball watch it to laugh at, nobody is going to a baseball game to see bad umps
No, no he’s not.
I would have thought this channel had a video with a million views already definitely coming soon im happy y’all love the game.
The athletic has an article last year about Angel, said that the umpire association has a grading system, and that umpires graded under 92% would be disciplined or terminated. However, no umpire has ever graded below 96% in their grading.
I believe that the MLB is afraid of him and his lawsuits, even if it seems silly
Lawsuits?
I remember that article, but I also remember it saying that they give an extra ball all the way outside the zone. They have to call a ball almost 4 inches off the plate a strike to get a negative mark from the actual Union.
Also, MLB has won both of the lawsuits Angel filed against them. They aren't scared of him, the Ump Union just won't let them get rid of him.
@@brad1356he sued mlb bc they wouldn’t allow him to call playoff games
Angel Hernandez is the only umpire who consistently trends on Twitter/X
I was at the Arkansas vs. TX Tech college baseball game last night......and Angel Hernandez was the subject.....complete strangers talking about it and noticed it.
My brothers lacrosse players don’t watch ANY baseball and they know who angel Hernandez is. It’s actually insane how bad he is
Let’s face it - MLB LOVES this guy. If they didn’t there’s NO WAY he’d be in there. They understand creating content through controversy, and Angel feeds their MO.
Trev was NOT teammates with Tyler Rogers
Trev putting over Angel is why I love the guy 😂. It riles fans up so much
Love your vids guys, but that's the dumbest question ever in your thumbnail. The sooner Angel Hernandez is out of the MLB, the better.
"Bad calls" don't balance out. There are certain teams like the Yankees and the Dodgers who get favored in these bad calls/borderline calls more that other teams.
This also applies to certain players. Some players get favored consistently on borderline calls.
Angel Hernandez is so bad he missed the eclipse and called it a strike
I just want to talk about the game, the teams and players skills or lack their of. Not the umpires. They should feed the talent, not control it.
Why does Trevor look like he spent three days out at Joshua Tree doing Psilocybin mushrooms?
Okay but imagine how electric it'll be next season when a team runs out of challenges in the 8th with Angel behind the plate
saw something saying with recent contract, they can put threw new rules in 60day(eison-passan talking about angel), so we 90d from allstar game, some decisions could be made
i dont know how much tech, how many cameras,if ball needs a chip, is involved in the system,if its possible to refit all 30 parks in a week over the break or not
When other umpires are asked about him they think he is a great guy and a good ump. That is the problem.
Trev doesn’t need to be on the show anymore. Let’s bring in someone who knows how to win and has guts like Gardner
"I'm getting blasted in the face" - Trevor Plouffe😂😂
25:49 as a Taylor, the confusion of Left-Handed Taylor and Right-Handed Tyler offended me personally. Years, decades even, of being called Tyler came rushing back to me like a wave of a personal attack. Lol
Turns out the Angel Hernandez problem fixed itself
Ken Kaiser Planet of the umps and Ron Luciano's Umpire strikes back are great reads.
Had to go online and grab my Jomboy Media Essentials shirt after seeing it on trev. Great ep bros
Bobby Cox holds the record for most times thrown out. Go Braves!
A full 162!
Trea Turner made oven mitts real swaggy
Can’t wait till the new format comes over for talkin baseball. No more chunky borders
I think so many people pay attention to it is because it’s one of the only universal fan experiences in baseball if you’re a fan of literally ANY team you’ve watched a game in the first inning where you see a call and a think wtf was that? Oh shit, it’s Angel here we go…
I agree with Trev that ump arguments are some of the more entertaining aspects in baseball
Totally agree it's entertaining to watch on TV/at the stadium, but I hate watching it trickle down to college, high school, and Little League
@@Jdmusic101 my hometown can't even find people to umpire anymore because they're tired of getting screamed at by parents over t ball
@@CCtheRapperman Yeah, I work as a race director for kart racing (basically umpire of the race), so I get lit up all the time. I can admire the entertainment for the pro level, but beyond that, they’re making it hard for me to get good people
Shoutout LV Iron Pigs
Idea for a limited rollout of the strike challenge: give them one. One per game, per team. If you win you keep it to use later if needed. The intention being that it be used when it is an egregious call. That let's you try it out with minimal potential impact to the outcome of the game.
Maybe Angel Hernandez needs some kushydreams to make better calls on the field! 😂
The tune at the begining is sick, is there a name for it?
Trev is either trolling to bait rage engagement on shorts, or has completely lost touch with fans
BBD’s laugh 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love your channel . It has become a part of my daily routine
I personally enjoy the flavor bad calls add to the game.
Waiting for my Skip Schumacher breakdown
Insane take. Getting the challenge system with angel will slow the game immensely. I could easily see 5-6 challenges every inning and all being overturned. I'm all for the challenge system, but angel is so bad he will nullify the efforts of mlb to speed up the game
Oli might be good for culture and communication, but is he a good leader for the team? 2023 was awful, and I'm inclined to believe the cards were only really good in 2022 because the cards still had Yadi. I think its fair to say that cardinals had a huge void to fill when he left, and I'm not sure Oli and the other coaches were ready to fill that.
It’s like a news reporter not being a part of the story. Umpires should not be mentioned by name in the game.
They don't need time to adjust to the zone because it's a challenge rule. What gave you the idea that they're moving the entire strike zone to a different place?
I work for the broadcast staff that created this system and I'm curious as to what gave people the idea that we are moving the entire strike zone and where they think we are going to put it. Maybe behind the batters back? Did you think we were going to make batters start to swing backward? I'm very confused by that part of the discussion. Otherwise, I loved this video
They are saying that players know what an umps existing strike zone is, and it's very rarely exactly accurate to what the legitimate strike zone is as per the rules. If you know that umpire A always calls high pitches a strike, you keep that in mind as a hitter. If they no longer use umpire A's strike zone and instead go for the "real" zone, players need to adjust to that.
The fact that was so confusing for someone claiming to be responsible for the new tech makes me pretty nervous to be honest lol
Can we not get Angel on Talkin Baseball and get an interview with this guy? I mean is Talkin Baseball at that pinnacle yet where we can bring umpires on? Or is it against the Umpire Association?
Interviews don't do numbers AT all. Jimmy mentions that everytime someone mentions it on his "more jomboy" channel. Ppl just don't click on Interviews
I guess that people forget about Eric Gregg. Go back and check out the 1997 NLCS. He was calling strikes on balls a foot off the plate.
Ah yes, they should definitely spend time talking about a game that happened almost 3 decades ago
Trev casually getting the name of his former teammate wrong while literally saying "my former teammate" lol. Taylor is the former twin not Tyler
I'm starting to think that Angel is doing it in part because he's really bad and largely out of spite. The 7" off the plate strike was just spite imo
Yeah, at this point it’s like he’s playing a heel in wrestling and pimping the evil.
The fact that I only know 2 MLB umpires by name (Angel Hernandez & Joe West) is not good news for them. A great umpire is a lot like a great cornerback. Never hearing their name called during a game is what you want!
That’s not a great analogy as hearing a cornerback getting a pick 6 like Daron Bland is better than not hearing their name but it is true that if you don’t hear their name they are doing their job correctly but not exceptionally
All of my Philly friends add a y- in front of many words, so it could be a Philly thing. Yuckin BALL BB!!
Can you imagine a player in his first at bat and Angel Hernandez rings him up and ruins his day and eventually his career????
31:40 glad the pencil got some use this episode
"Show me your gooch" to end the show. Thanks, Jake
"Show me your gooch" - Jake Storiale
Discretionary calls left up to the umpire leads to score manipulation.
Iron pigs mentioned 🫡
Ok this just hit me and IDK if it is a thing or why it wouldn’t work but why doesn’t HitTrax or StatCast just have a meeting with the individual umps to adjust the zone to their calls. Like have them sit and call balls and strikes on the edge of the plate for an hour or so and learn their tendencies. From what I understand MLB wants a uniform strike zone but we all know that is not the case at least for now. I think it would help the broadcast when a ump consistently gives the pitcher a ball outside or something like that.
Like, Driveline but for umps.
@@glucosaminecondroitan9135 yes that is the type of thing I was thinking. Maybe just do it for the seasons you are introducing the challenge system to help the older Umps transition to a uniform zone
NO
Angel hernandez on the next show cover
good take 28:25
Justin Verlander is a fan of the strikes and balls challenges. I don't think veteran pitchers will be a problem.
"How to fix Angel Hernandez problem?" Step 1: Fire Him. Step 2: Tell the courts he's a terrible ref AGAIN. Step 3: Done
Step 2a: the court explains MLB violated the CBA with the MLB umpire union, are forced to reinstate Angel with back pay and punitive damages.
Consistent poor performance is not good for the game
I love you to pieces Trev, but I'm fairly certain you would let any active player sway your opinion instantly. You're a player's player, and I don't mean that as a bad thing.
I do like the human element of the game however that AAA challenge system would be great. I kinda like that scenario ideally.
Where the heck has Jom been?
For real missing him a lil
Leave it to Trev to find a way to spin the Angel story into a good thing
No. Someone who puts themselves in the outcome of a game is bad. Personalities in sports are good, incompetence is not.
Nah, the umpiring right now is bad for the game.
Only right answer is HELL NO
Angel having 3 calls overturned in a row at first base is an all timer
How much time we got 🤣
Is a knee to the groin actually GOOD for your balls?
It’s important to note that we shouldn’t just be pushing for Angel to be fired or retrained to be a good umpire, but ALL bad umpires to be held accountable. Angel is just the poster child, but CB and plenty others are just as bad.
"Kyle Gibson is Trev's Amber Sabathia" is CRAAAZY 🤣🤣 love Talkin Jake!!!!
How does Angel Hernandez go home and look at his wife and kids in the eyes knowing they know he is terrible at his job 😂😂😂
same way jake does
jake is 1000% right about the freeland play, they could have absolutely gotten freeland out without causing a collision. average pitcher behavior.
I can’t believe there’s people out there that are against the challenge system. I do think complete robo umps is a bad idea tho
People even knowing the umpires name, is not good for baseball
All plays should be challengable, for one.
Trevor P. - unsolicited advice here, when it comes to Angel H. just frickin' stop it. He is bad at his job? Do you deny that? If your defense is everybody hates him so I'm going to defend him because... dude, I hope the knee pads you are using are the best ones you can find on-line. Quality knee pads T.P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The man ruined a perfect game shoulda been the end.
Umpires are the DEmiGods of baseball, they tell the story. "My , God, Why have you forsaken me!!!!!!!!!! "
the pitcher covering home is all in the wrong, he is late to cover home and blocks the plate and the runner gets penalized and injured for that like what a pitcher move 😭
no one wants the umpires to be stars
Bad umpiring is not good for baseball LOL. Stop trolling us.
For the love of all that is good in this world, please get poor Trevor a decent camera. He's on it everyday.
Getting rid of the harsh lighting might fix his current setup...close the blinds!
Get Trev a new camera and these ladies a Sephora gift card
Wtf is with left dudes et fingers? Im trying to sleep and its like light sabers waving around
What?? Lol
So is Jomboy not part of this episodes any longer?
He is working on other projects and joins I think once a week.
No. End of video.
Trevor is thinking the same way the umpires do instead of the fans. Who is more important between the two? Trevor needs to go.
Joe West and Angel Hernandez were the Magic & Bird of incompetent officiating (except Joe was actually a decent umpire at everything except balls and strikes, while Angel is a liability at every position)
people love to hate - nuff said.
Angel is a meme now 🤷🏻♂️
