    It's amazing how Devon can still look lush even under frost. Thank you for the footage, apart from making me shudder with the shots of The Beer Engine. A very long time ago someone took me there to break up with me. And then we had the train journey back 😮😂
    If I get too many books going at once I start to obsess a bit about finishing things so I am aiming to avoid that next year too.
    I hope 2024 is a less overwhelming and full of joy of all kinds.

    • @spreadbookjoy
      @spreadbookjoy  9 месяцев назад

      Oh no Ros! Not good memories of the beer engine - that train journey back must’ve been very awkward and unpleasant! I’m definitely trying to get a handle on the amount of books that I start in the New Year. I think that the main issue for me is watching book tube and then reserving lots of things at the library which I then have to read! I’m really hoping for a much more tranquil, 2024 and I wish you an absolutely wonderful New Year! 🎆 ❤️

      Oh wow! High praise indeed! I read the first two books in the Wolf Den trilogy within about a week of each other this time last year, and they ended up being in my top books of the year as well. I feel like I need to reread them before I read the Temple of Fortuna.

      Thank you so much, Deea! Picture This will definitely happen and I really appreciate the offer of help so I’ll be in contact if that is needed. I definitely need to get a handle on the amount of books that I start at any one time because I honestly think this has been the biggest hindrance to finishing books. I don’t wanna be obsessed with finishing books either, but I really would like to read more of what I own in 2024, so that means a book buying embargo until the physical TBR is reduced. I don’t need it to be zero, but anything around the 50 to 100 unread mark would be okay with me. So probably about 80 books to go! 🤣

    Hi Jack,
    Great video! I'm glad to see you are enjoying Devon!! Love the footage.
    I have two books that I want to finish by the end of the year : Assassins Fate by Robin Hobb, which is the 16th and final book in her Realm of the Elderlings series. I am about 100 pages from the end so that will definitely happen. Then also Demon Copperhead, which I started in the Sumner and read about 50% , but then put it down as I was finding it a bit intense, but I really do want to finish it, so fingers crossed 🤞...but I have a couple of other books I want to read ASAP, so we'll see, like you I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself with deadlines and finishing books as reading is supposed to be my hobby 😂. Happy festive reading!

    • @spreadbookjoy
      @spreadbookjoy  9 месяцев назад

      It’s important that we don’t put so much pressure on ourselves to read! I hope your end of year reading is going well. I would really like to read the rest of the realm of the elderlings series. I got myself a secondhand set of the Farseer trilogy a couple of years ago with the intention of rereading them and then working my way through the rest of the books. haven’t done that yet, but last year I reread my favourite of the Hobb books I’ve read so far, which is the Liveship Traders trilogy. They are some of my absolute all-time favourite fantasy books. I went on and read the first three of the Rainwild books, but have not finished the fourth one. I have Demon copperhead still on my tbr and I think I’m gonna try and get to that next year, but like you I think I’ll find the topic a little intense!

    Lovely footage from Devon. It looks beautiful there. I hope to visit the UK coming year. Fingers crossed.
    Inspired by you and Gemma I started Shogun. I hope to finish it this month. I have some time off, so I might be able to. And I also want to finish Hidden Figures. I have nothing else on the go, so I'm not sure after that. Maybe I will reread We Have Always Lived in the Castle. For Remember December and Fomo Bookclub, killing two birds with one stone.

      Oh, I do hope you’ve enjoyed Shogun! I literally just finished we have always lived in the castle ahead of our live, which should be on Friday evening UK time. A trip to the UK - how exciting! I really hope that happens for you, and that you enjoy your time here. Will you be visiting any literary landmarks?

    • @-ParisTexas-
      @-ParisTexas- 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@spreadbookjoy If I were to come to the UK I would definitely visit some literary landmarks, I'm not sure which though. Let's see if I make it first. I've always wanted to come, but I also really like hot weather for my summer holiday. So It would be for a shorter trip, maybe in the autumn. I'd love to come to Cornwall and Devon. But I equally want to visit Scotland. So much plans, so little time (and funds, lol).
      Nice, I am looking forward to the Live and hearing your thoughts. I'm rereading it now and I like it more the second time around. But Friday Evening which date?

    I hope the book club is going well! I really love a christmas carol but haven't listened to a book like that before. I want to try the elodie harper series at some point. Easy short books sounds like a good plan. Oh, heartstopper vol 4 is so good. I really need to get to the days of moraski bookshop as well, I nabbed one from someone's unhaul before the end of the year! I hope doing less reading commitments works as well. I did that last year and the flexibility was a big plus for me.

    Love the countryside and town images. I like Shogun, but my progress is slow, too. I've given myself until 31 Jan to read it so I'm there's days I only read a page and others when I read a couple if chapters.

    • @spreadbookjoy
      @spreadbookjoy  9 месяцев назад

      Shogun is such a great book definitely worth the effort, but the amount of characters and and the political intrigue beginning, make it quite tricky. The pace of the plot is very quick though and draws you in straightaway!

      @spreadbookjoy I'm on chapter 46, and there's a few bits I remember from the TV series, like when he tries to air dry the pheasant before smoking it and the consequences.

    • @spreadbookjoy
      @spreadbookjoy  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@PageTurnersWithKatja that’s where we are actually! I’ve also been rewatching the old tv show over Christmas - it’s a very good adaptation and haven’t seen it for years. Only noticed that we don’t get the Japanese perspective at all in it - it’s all purely from the Europeans’ perspectives. It works well but we are missing half of the book without their perspective and the insight into their culture and mindset. Also noticed that Mariko in the show does not talk about being a samurai herself or her training with weapons. I’m looking forward to seeing how the new show adapts the book!
