      To understand Ol' Sterlin, you had to have a Master's degree in the oh so hard to grasp "Tennessean Mountain" language Arts. Luckily, I speak it fluently 😉 I also hold a phD in both "Carolina Redneck Slang" & the ancient language Art of "Oakbilly'isms" As you can see, I can have a conversation with not only Sterlin, but Ward & The King, all at the same time, whilst understanding every bless'id word of our perfectly spoken broken Southern English!
      🥴👍 LOL!

    I remember a race, back before they used transponders on the cars. Sterling Marlin was leading, they had a late race caution. He came in the pits in first place, Came out about fifth and finished there. During his interview, they asked him what happened on that last pit stop. He just said, "Dang cheaters!" They asked him, "You think they were cheating?" He said,,, " I know they were!! I was speeding coming in, and leaving , and they still beat me out!!!" Always loved Sterling Marlin.

    • @snappy452
      @snappy452 3 года назад +6

      It'll never happen again because it was the perfect confluence of events that made it possible. There's too much money at the lower levels of the sport for guys like they were who were all colorful characters who made themselves through racing. Now if you're not coming from a wealthy background you're pretty screwed. That's why there's so much petulance and lack of respect in the modern driver. They've always had great equipment, they've always had sponsorship and they've never really struggled for anything. That's how you get stuck up automatons like Austin Dillon.

      Those 25 points took him out of the points lead after Talladega, but wouldn't have ultimately mattered in where he finished in the final points (he ends up 5th either way). Crashing out and finishing 33rd in back-to-back races at Martinsville and Atlanta a few races later is what took him out of championship contention.
