Phil leading the charge on ps5 repairs and gaining and sharing great knowledge of their faults and ways to fix them ...your great for the repair community Phil
Thanks buddy much appreciated
@@TheCod3r you're awesome
GREAT WTF YOU ON FANBITCH he did not want give chip to a guy it was the last one but he decided install it and then remove it just make video with strangers property, scummy used wear and tear on strangers system make money on channel then cried how he loses money so he take part out . this was so scummy wonder if grasp how this makes him look like scummy thief that would do anything for dollar , you used some ones stuff was supposed be fixed to make money really .
this insane how bad you repair people gotten past few years on RUclips . this is criminal what you did there is actually Jail time serious in this country , not sure UK but here were protected from people do that shit you openly talked about showed using persons personal belongings with out permission to boot let alone attaching and removing parts so you make cash off there stuff and then he talked how made money off videos and adds lol
Have you tried out the "Freeze" method for liquid metal cleanup? I know for spilled gallium in my chemistry class, the instructor had us spray it with freeze spray and then vacuum it up once it solidified.
that's not a bad idea. I was thinking using solder wick but yours is a cleaner way of doing it
Good stuff man , you really know your shit👍
Hello mate, im an electrician too and a follower of your work. Last Week i have worked on PS5 with the same problem like the last one on this video. I have checked all standby rails and everything was working just fine but the BLOD was in every moment. The only thing i have detected was the fuse F7002 was open but there was no short on none of the sides of this component...was a very rarely defect. I replaced it with a donor board i cross my fingers when i push the power button and nothing....still the f**** blue light of death in just a second. Tried another power supply and nothing. I have tested with the lab power supply and get the normal boot up at 300mA then down to 10mA waiting for push button. I have used my thermal camera and the south bridge temperature go up to 30 celsius degrees and nothing. If you find the solution for this kind of issue i think you will help a lot of people sharing your knowledge and inspiration. Keep doing this work you are a truly technician. Regards
Just found your channel. Great stuff. Hooked.
Thanks mate much appreciated
Saved so I can watch tomorrow while at work. Thanks
Thanks mate
I have one that most likely has a short on the apu, on the vcore all the capacitors near the coils are shorted, placed as test leads on the capacitors below the apu and all of them beep.
I have one and it's the PMIC beside the SSD. I'm trying to find a replacement ic if you can help
I have a question which hopefully you have an answer to, my computer with decent specs which I’ve had problems with for a while deleted my drivers one day out of nowhere for some reason, sometimes I’m scared to even delve into it as I’ve had many computer problems in the past as I’ve tried building them myself from a young age without that much success. Do you think you would have a solution to that problem at all? Thank you for your time if you’re reading this mate!
Looking at the design of the PS5 I think your going to see way more drops in the future
Yeah most definitely mate
Yes it’s a bit of a poor design, the fact they had to use liquid metal paste to keep it cool enough proves it. Microsoft were much cleverer in splitting the board in two with big heat sinks.
Hi mate, great videos!
I tried replacing PSU and successfully did it inspired by your videos. However, while putting things together I damaged blue light ribbon cable and there is no activity on tv nor the fan spins. My question is does the blue light ribbon cable play an important role to close the circuit? Would you be able to test if you are able to power on ps5 without the blue light ribbon cable connected?
It would not hurt to try it with out the ribbon cable. Sorry for the very late reply.
On the PS5 you replaced the encoder on. Didn’t you take a fuse off the back to fix a short before you replaced encoder on the previous stream? To trace a short on other side? Did you ever put fuse back?
Yeah I did mate but I did replace the fuse. It's the same rating as a PS4 Slim disc drive (3amps fast blow) :)
Have you had many wifi issues with ps5? Mine keeps disconnecting and connecting and has really slow speeds when other devices in the network are fine
how much do you charge to fix? mine died yesterday
Can you see the boot sequence by applying 12v with a bench supply and watching the current draw on a ps5?
On a ps4 you can see that by doing so on the 5v input line coming from the power supply.
And can you use compressed air for blowing out liquid metal that eventually got stuck under the apu?
Yeah let's launch liquid metal all over the place with compressed air. Genius idea.
That coffee on workstation makes me nervous
yep gotcha
Is this the same one you were working on before or this a new one?
Hey man great video. I'm so happy i have found your channel. Can you fix some ps3 fat or slims overheating or show how to change nec/tolkin capacitors... I know about "my mate vince" but i know as well that people would like to see this. Cheers.
Thanks mate. I plan to do some in the future just for fun but they're quite expensive to buy at the minute for some reason
We’re and how much are they ? Please and thanks
18:40 - I think was prior repair... the APU is missing the protective foam so someone was there! That's the reason the liquid metal is spilled.
Yes it had been worked on by someone else and they removed the foam :(
@@TheCod3r That explains the "leak".
that ps5 with no image is the same issue I'm having it turns on but no damn signal hopefully you figure out what's wrong with that ps5 .
The no signal one in this stream I did manage to get it to display for a few minutes, turns out the hdmi encoder, port and filters sorted that but it also took out the gpu 🙄
When i saw the sony technician dissasembly the console i knew i will be fixing lots of them
That piece under that apu bracket isn't on properly😜
Oh yes a good couple of joints goes down a treat oh my bad not that kind of joint 🤭
Haha I'll pass on that one, my missus might be interested though 😅
I’ll call magneto to have him remove all that liquid metal from under apu
At 1:57:18 there is missing cap i think
At 49.55 you can see Thermal Paste on 2 components when you spread paste , possibility of short.
Wipe the liquid metal, or paste etc in 1 direction otherwise you it keeps spreading back to your clean area.
Yeah but thermal paste isn't electrically conductive, you could put it anywhere and it won't hurt the board at all
@@TheCod3r Just looking out for ya, it depends on the type of material and filler used in the thermal paste. 👍
I definitely agree with you that the L in solder should be pronounced but what happened to the E in battery? Americans pronounce it bat-ter-e but in the U K it is batt-re.
Why do they use liquid metal and not thermal paste
It's because the liquid metal has a much higher thermal conductivity than thermal paste so it's more efficient at transferring heat :)
Is series x built better than
Ps 5
Jamás creí que fuera buna idea meter metal líquido en un circuito
I agree :)
I don't think I would buy a ps5 for 2 reasons 1 too expensive 2 too many married parts
Whay not fix the broken camera?
If you mean the microscope camera the cpu is dead mate, I already looked at it and found an internal cpu short on the video line 🙄
They should mark the ps5 down as $240
It's incredible how many units I see people repair. Not only here, but other people as well.
Mostly (strange enough) it seems that the HDMI port fails.
When looking at a PS5, I notice these things:
It's vertical, not really an issue. But that depends where the the heaviest parts are on it.
When (IF) it falls, it most likely is the HDMI connector itself that is the part that makes the HDMI port break so easily.
Wonder if Sony thought of this when making the machine itself? A good thing would have been to make the HDMI port lower down on the MoBo instead, or to have some support from the casing itself i.e. thick plastic surrounding it.
It doesn't have to be vertical. I agree though, it's just asking to be knocked over and works horizontally perfectly well.
The PS5 was rushed to the market and it really shows.
I think it's more of a stability issue with the aesthetics. They seem easy to knock over, causing drop damage especially to the stupid HDMI port. I dont get the idea of standing them up, Sony did this with the ps2 and it was a bad idea. The Xbox is just a small form factor PC case, less likely to fall over. Personally I think the HDMI port is a terrible design with little mechanical strength.
I agree. They were made during covid. Mines just crapped out. I got it on day 1 release
@@handlesarefeckinstupid From my knowledge the HDMI port is actually much weaker and prone to failure more than the PS4.
@@Zeus-qz2yj HDMI port?
It's like its stuck on 8k and wont display on your tv
It should switch to the correct resolution to be honest. My TV is 4k but safe mode should output in low resolution automatically
that pc looks scratched to hell.
Why so many PS5 repairs did you buy them or is customer faulty machines
isn't that insulating layer supposed to PREVENT the metal from escaping? lmao
That liquid metal is horrid stuff. I usually just stick to kryonaught. My OCD is affected by how your moving the liquid metal around all over the chip lol
I hate the stuff lol. Yeah I'm still not used to it yet, I guess I need to get a proper spreader for it lol
0:10
the ps5 don't seem to last long for the money you pay for them new.
up and down
im still catching yu yup? mind them ps5 are bag of tricks ! (o_O)
Seriously 2:12 You are using thermal past OMFG! likely why it will not turn on it must have the liquid metal OMG
Wow you must be incredibly jealous! The kind of bull crap you're leaving on my videos is hilarious 😂 thermal paste stopping it turning on? Really? You really are stupid! You should probably go and watch Sorin, he's more your style! Dick!
@@TheCod3r my thoughts exactly this dude is flaming on a lot of your videos he must be jealous because you're more successful on RUclips than him.
You can turn on these boards with no heat sink or anything attached to it. Maybe if you were a tech and knew this, you wouldn't be commenting on stuff that you are unfamiliar with.
@@johnglez6271 I have more actual education in component-level electronics than you and anyone on this channel including the owner so "SUCK ON THAT"
@@Xboxsarerepairable nobody argued about your knowledge on whatever you claim, you can still be stupid, you did say that the playstation wasn't turning on because they way he had it set up, and I said that you can literally turn on the PS5 with nothing attached to the board with the exception of the power supply. You were talking in a demeaning manner out of your ass.
This is why I think the PS5 design is poor. Liquid metal isn't for a mass produced consumer console, BUT that must have had a hell of a whack for the APU to be cracked! Careless owners. £450 down the drain and it's impossible to find them in stock.
Ha sun spots
The lesson here is don't buy a ps5! Sony rushed this console.for release. Great for repair shops though!
Indeed mate. It's going to be interesting to see how many of these fail in the future
Dont stand them up would be my advice. The fact most repairs are drop damage shouts that to me.
I think it was your mistake. You dropped the board on the liquid metal and it splattered all over the place
How did I drop the board? I hadn't personally worked on it before I put it on the bench to stream the repair
Take a Look on 17:33. I could go wrong but it's happens to me on my own Playstation. (nobody is perfekt) Anyway you Are making great jobs and i learn a lot of you!!
@@AndyG0701 I didn't drop it, it slotted back in to place. The LM was splattered not just smudged lol
Just use regular thermal paste instead of liquid metal … that liquid metal is a disaster waiting to happen
Unfortunately on a customer console I can't use paste, I have to keep them to factory spec
Thats when you need to start charging a stupid person tax. If they would have atleast told you about the PS5 being dropped and thats why there is liquid metal all over the f'ing place. Then that would have been a different story.
What happens if you were to test the console and because they didn't tell you they dropped it, and the console cpu becomes fried. Then they can blame it on you saying you fried their console.
What a crap console, as always sony never improves the quality of their consoles.
Yes the xbox has never had issues has it? The xbox 360 was particularly well made as I recall. Perhaps he comes across more PS5's because people (idiots) stand them up and knock them over? I dont get the vertical aesthetic, it's just asking for trouble.
@@handlesarefeckinstupid I don't like ps5 for instance it has the sdd soldered to the motherboard, if it gets wrecked is almost impossible to fix because it must have some protection or is married to a serial number
UR suppose to throw your controller, not your PS5. Silly user. BTW, these consoles are made like crap. Expensive crap
You should pay attention at you’re language
Hey, I might be able to help you with camera. Send me a message :)
Thanks mate, I'm not sure how to send a message on youtube to be honest but you can email me at hello@consolefix.co.uk or Phildanks@outlook.com :)
