Mafia 1 had the best story ever in my opinion. And the ending left me speechless. But I also love GTA5 for its great graphic, fantastic weather and daytime effects, huge area with endless possibilities and simply gorgeous landscape.

Why do people complain about the racing mission? The physics were pretty loyal to the physics of a 30's GP car, once you got used to the handling all you had to do was drive quickly without crashing. Ain't supposed to be easy and at least it was only 5 laps not 100 like IRL

Mafia 1 may be a nostalgic game but compared to today's standards it's an old turd and any game that mimics the lazyness of the era it comes from is overwhelmingly panned. Mafia 3, on the other hand, is a fucking disgrace and is another of the thousands of examples that show the corruption that market economy has on everything - especially artistic endeavours.
Back in Mafia 1, if you get caught speeding, you'll pay fines. You could even set a non-agressive driving respecting traffic speed limits, also in Mafia 2. This new Mafia 3 sucks in all ways but the music...

The problem is in. The mafia 1 and mafia 2 also was made by czechs. And what else at mafia 2 they already had some experience. But mafia 3 was made by americans without experience.

Sorry to break your balls, but the GTA series isn't developed by Americans. The core/original developers are British. Furthermore, Rockstar North (originally DMA Design), has and still is the developer, and the company has always been situated in Scotland. Sure, they're owned by Rockstar (duuuuh), who's owned by the American company T2/Take-Two Interactive (who btw. also owns 2K), but that's about it in regard of American influence of GTA.

The car bending from Mafia 1 is masterpiece to this day. I havent seen anything that tops it. What a game. Always getting eyes wet from nostalgia :,)
In Mafia 1 there is no doubt they did a great job, but the car damage system in Driver 1 & 2 (1999 and 2000) is even better.

In Driver 1/2 is no damage system - it only renders crashed models of cars - like in GTA 3.
Well maybe, but I still call that damage system (no in real time, true). In gta 3, VC and SA, only the doors, the hood and the trunk are the only things that get damaged in the cars (and have only one pre-made model, they always break the same way) In Driver 1/2 the entire chasis gets dent depending where you get hit. (Sorry if i dont speak properly, but English isn´t my 1st language). For me its pretty good even to this day.

...and thats the problem. Mafia 1 (The City of lost Haven) feels like a simulator. You can feel the weight of the guns, when you shoot. Its way better in terms of gameplay, but mafia was around the Story. And Mafia 3 shines there. Its has a good story. So Mafia 3 isnt a bad game, but not good either.
Mafia I had a great story as well. And all the little details made it much more immersive for me.
Starting off as a cab driver, keeping the speedlimits etc, that's what keeps the story and gameplay intertwined. So... for me Mafia III is like a great painting on a cheap paper from a math's notebook, so while the picture is great, the visible gridlines make me feel annoyed.
Storywise, I think Mafia II had a great story as well.
But hey.. That's just me :D everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

I agree that Big studio-AAA games are made for money but I don't see how that is anything new. It is simply bigger now and that's just the way capitalism works, it transforms something beautiful to something on an assembly-line that is to be churned out in the millions. An interactive work of art is a really impressive thing and it still astonishes me how far we have come.
If I were you, I would support more indie-projects.

There's nothing in this world I would want more than a remake of Mafia (including Freeride Extreme, which sadly is broken on anything newer than Windows XP). It does look really dated now, but the music, story, voice acting and gameplay is still great. It's pretty much the only game where I care about the story, and I actually care more about it than any TV series or movie. Playing Mafia is quite possibly the highlight of my life so far, that's how much I like it. Mafia 3 feels a lot like the last Assassin's Creed game, both fairly good games that fail to hold my interest for too long at a time (and both run on awfully unoptimized engines).
How is Freeride Extreme broken? I completed it on Windows 7. The only problem was with the framerate, that was too high for a certain mission, but that can be fixed.
Cruchot Several of the missions are completely buggy for me on my current machine, to the point where they can't be completed. Story mode is still working perfectly though, and I never had a single technical issue with the game back in the day (unlike every single modern game).
iirc the ones that had problems were related to framerate, which you can limit easily. But I don't remember anything else being wrong.
If you liked the story The same guy who made Mafia made a kingdom come deliverance. Same type of storytelling only its medieval game.

Потому что ощущения от игры в первую часть гораздо лучше второй. Нет бессмертия (посидел тихонько 5 секунд за углом и целый - в первой части нужно было каждую единицу здоровья беречь), не можешь носить в карманах арсенал (одну большую пушку типа дробовика или томпсона и несколько пистолетов - больше в карманы физически не спрятать), при перезарядке выбрасывался весь неиспользованный боезапас в магазине (что опять же логично). Таких моментов в первой части было очень много - во второй большинство было похерено для облегчения игры. В итоге вторая едва тянет на семерочку.

It still sucked lol but it was a massive improvement and such a visual treat. The game makes me want to turn off crash sound effects and vibration because of how terrible it feels and sounds. I get it’s a good psychological trick for more immersion and to encourage you not to crash like you would in real life but shit I want to enjoy my driving action and sfx when I play a video game.
I've never been more terrified about police in any other game than mafia 1. Seeing them when speeding through town makes me slam on the brakes every time.

It is an american game now. That's mostly why it sucks. However, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven was a Czech game and it was developed with passion. That's why it's still playable after all these years.

Whether they wanted it or not, Mafia III has served very well the purpose of making Mafia I even greater, a video game released 14 YEARS AGO.

Good video. The original game was way ahead of its time in so many ways.
I already had my fears about Mafia 3 when it got revealed, then those fears turned into reality. In Mafia 3, you don't feel like a mobster/gangster/mafia whatever you want to call it, you feel like some psycho maniac on a killing spree *against* the mafia.
Bothered me as well that they jumped towards the 70s, to me that feels a bit far ahead, considering the golden age for the crime families was from 1930s to the late 1940s. Before the federal bereau was founded and during the prohibition and all that. Of course thats nitpicking the game, but there is sooo much more wrong with it. If anything, Lincoln fits more the title of mercenary than anything else. One of my biggest disappointmens of 2016 in gaming, even got me to uninstall Mafia 3 and re-install Mafia 2.
Buuuut, devs from Mafia 1 & 2 are now working on Kingdom Come: Deliverance from Warhorse Studios which is turning out to become a great game!

Да в принципе, любую игру возьми, выпущенную 10-15 лет назад, она будет лучше во всем, за исключением графики, и то не всегда. А сейчас, не проработанные и не продуманные игры - это уже норма, всё нормально.

Все очень просто. Я это предусмотрел с товарищем еще будучи студентом еще до нулевых. Мы как то зашли в магазин и к нам пристал один юный консультант в магазине (не намного младше нас, может тех же лет). Он был настолько тупой и вне своей компетенции что выходя из магазина я в сердцах говорю товарищу - мол ну как же можно быть таким бестолковым в его годы? Столько бездарей растет. - А друг добавляет то что меня даже тогда ужаснуло - "А ведь нам с ними жить еще...". Вот и получается что эти бездари выросли и приступили к работе. И они везде. На заводах машин которые теперь сыпятся даже если стоят 6 лямов, на стройках, в проектных бюро, в студиях разработок игр или киностудиях. А так как их большинство (дураков всегда большинство) всем приходится страдать. Как нормальным людям так и тем же балбесам. Проблема в том что дураки особо не замечают проблем, потому живут более менее счастливо))

If they do get to remake mafia 1.. I hope they will use Mafia 2's physics. Driving cars in Mafia 3 feels like driving a tank, it rarely damages especially if you are the one driving. in mafia 2, both you and NPC recieve the same damage to the car, Plus Vito is able to fix the engine(Not entirely, but at least that junk can still be moving around after you completely trash it up).

Но только вот вчера задумался, какая это качественная, интересная , проработанная игра, опережающая время в плане повествования сюжета и истории, погружающая в него с большим увлечением и геймплейно тоже, очень проработанная. И поиграл в третью часть, максимум который я провел в игре- часа полтора. После чего удалил.

It's also possible to let a car explode by one direct shot in the gas tank and it's also possible to break the lock by shooting it. They put so much detail just into the cars, it is still amazing.

The 3D models were so economical but so believable, the characters had character. It's amazing that the player could deform the actual polygons of the car models to his hearts content, with a baseball bat.

the AI always goes to the same spots. There is some bullshit going on there. They probably cheated or did some workarounds when programming the AI. Its stupid too.

Mafia was soo advanced for its time. Obviously its like all old games where every movement seems a bit glitchy but for its time it was great. Not many games can compete for combat and reality!!

Also remembered in Mafia 1 the cops would pull you over for speeding and give you a ticket. Do it three times and then they arrested you.

what about the animation in which they clutch their body part where they were shot at, or the addition of alligators , or the wipers that work when it's raining , or how the rain changes with different lighting , or the way NPCs react with each other, or the vehicles that handle differently and many other addition but no apparently breaking car windows or flushing toilets are immersion for me

+Cyan1337, нужно подписать будет анотацией, а то многие не поняли сравнение, в одном случае ОРУЖИЕ в руках вызывает у копа только ззааааатяжное подозрение, а в другом, коп сразу смекает, что человек с ОРУЖИЕМ по улице гулять не должен. И то что день/ночь и как бы оружие можно не заметить, не важно, днем была такая же петрушка.

Cyan1337, ну так и есть, в М3 сразу стрелять начинают, а в М1 когда просто вытащил задерживают, а чуть дальше кадр где в М1 если выстрелить в ответ, уже будут бить на поражение =) И тут расизм определенно не причем, просто не стали заморачиваться при разработке
