Hi Ryan, Great videos, love watching them. I wish to emulate your Springbar Vagabond Tent and Snowpeak Awning set up for a trip out west this year. I notice on your website you indicate that you use 330cm poles on the awning. I cant seem to locate them on the snowpeak website, can you tell me how you did it? Many Thanks Amanda
Hey, sorry I have the height wrong on the website, it's actually the 280cm wing pole plus one extra pole section, so 350cm. They only sell it as 280cm, so essentially you'd have to get 3 sets. I haven't set it up this way since this trip, but it's definitely tall at nearly 11.5ft. In this configuration, the Vagabond fits very snug with the sides of the tarp and if it were any wider it wouldn't have worked. However, the cool thing is the Recta L can be configured in so many ways. I'd like to try it with four 240cm poles; placing two of the poles in the middle grommets and the vagabond towards the back. I think this would maximize living space. Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to help!
@@rtmadani apologies for late reply, i thought i had replied, thanks for getting back to me 👍i look forward to seeing the 4 pole set up, maybe this would make another good video for you? Today I ordered my Vagabond tent !!!
Hi Ryan, Thanks you for all your helpful advice on replication your set up recently. Good news I am now the proud owner of the Vagabond Tent and I am just about to place my snow peak order. Before I do so I have a couple of additional questions. Q1) I would like to use your referral link to place the order to support your endeavours and so I want to check which link I should use for you. Q2) I have done my home work and sums and it appears it makes more sense to buy the Recta Tarp L Set than to buy the tarp and poles separately. Now the question that arises from this deis that the Recta Tarp decision is that the L Set comes with Wing Poles 240cm Aluminum x 2 and as you indicated your set up was 1x 280cm Wing Pole and 1 x 70cm (1 part of 280cm pole). Now with the 240cm poles I need to either purchase a 240cm or 280cm pole and use 2 sections of 240 (giving me 120cm) Total height of 360cm or I could use one x 60cm section to make 300cm total height or I could purchase another 280cm pole set and use 1 of the 70cm se cations to give a height of 310cm. Question to you is which way would you go and why? Would 310cm be too short to go over the Vagabond Tent or would 360cm be too much? Apologies for the long comment. Best wishes Amanda
@@amandac6681 Hey, that's awesome, glad to hear you picked up a Vagabond! Since the Recta L Set comes with the 240cm height poles, if I were adding any extra poles, I'd get two extra 240 cm poles. With four 240cm poles you could place the two extras in the center grommets (on the length of the tarp) creating a really versatile layout. Snow Peak configures the Recta tarps this way at their annual SP ways and I think it'd be a great way to maximize the outdoor living space with the Vagabond underneath. I think the extra 240s would be the most versatile because you could still do the A frame style as well just taller or shorter like you mentioned. The 360cm isn't far off from where I had it, and if anything could work a bit better as the extra height would allow more space between the tarp and tent. I have also used the Recta in its stock configuration, so 240 cm poles and the four collapsible poles with the Vagabond underneath and it works well. I hope this helps! Here is my affiliate link for the Recta set: alnk.to/4XvbwgC I appreciate your support!

hi Ryan ,do you think alpha breeze can be placed under this tarp ? Cuz I’m planning on getting a tarp for my alpha breeze ,just have no idea what size and which one I should be getting .thank you
The Recta could work with the Alpha Breeze, but recently I used the ivory Evo Pro paired with it and it was really nice. If you go to our instagram @rtmadani I recently posted a picture of it there.
The Alpha Breeze is more convenient, so it gets used more often. They’re both solid tents though and completely different in just about every way. Just know going the springbar rout is much heavier, bulkier, and could be a bit of a hassle to dry. That said, it’s a fantastic tent and I enjoy using it.
Thanks! Maybe the Outfitter would work. It's 1 foot smaller all around and slightly shorter. That would be interesting to see though! Thanks for watching!
You will have to try the Kodiak if you don't like the zippers on the Springbar, saw a video comparing the two. (I have also seen some canvas tents that use a wood stove for winter heat, teepee though, warm clothing works well enough for me, and it is too dark for me in dead of winter so now I do spring skiing.) That is a really long pole for the tarp? Looks like a nice setup for family.
I've gotten used to the zippers surprisingly, but have some good solutions for it that subscribers have suggested. Hot tent camping looks to be pretty popular lately, but I'm with you on just wearing warmer clothes. The tarp is huge! I had to go to that pole length for the tent to fit under and it still just barley fits. Thank you for watching!
I love your videos: informative and simply lovely. I think that placing a tent under a tarp is a fabulous idea when camping when it is raining so as not to feel claustrophobic and even enjoy a nice rain from comfy sheltered chair. Since you have a couple of Snow Peak tarps and the Snow Peak Alpha Breeze, would you recommend either of the tarps to fit comfortably over the Alpha Breeze with a bit of room to spare for sheltered cooking and eating? TIA!
Hey, thank you so much! The Alpha Breeze should fit perfect under the recta tarp 'L' without the rainfly and would still allow for ample space to cook and hangout in front.
I just purchased my first Springbar Compact Tent and plan to try it out in either Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, CA, or Joshua Tree National Park for some winter camping. I also plan to erect a tarp over it very similar to your setup. I'd prefer to keep it out of the rain and sap from trees etc. May I ask the brand of tarp you purchased, and the poles you used?
Nice, congrats on the new tent! So for this setup, I'm using the Snow Peak Recta Large Tarp Set. I have extra tarp poles so I just added one extra section turning the 280cm pole to 330cm. If I were using the compact, I'd probably stick with 280cm at first.
I do still use it just not as often mostly because It’s heavier to lug around and a bit more of a pain if it gets wet. I keep mine under a large Snow Peak recta tarp to keep it dry. I will be taking it out again soon though, I enjoy using it despite the extra effort.
It would be nice to see you do the whole setup process and driving to the location. I know you’ll get a ton of subscribers just for that .I love your videos nonetheless 🎈🎉

Hey! Nice, love the low beach chairs! The single action low table is really convenient and hardly takes up any space when folded. If your looking for a more compact set up for the two of you it’d be perfect. It’s definitely a smaller table, but I think its plenty spacious for two people.
