When the story came out what happened in San Francisco, a new procedure was implemented immediately, that Security was be responsible for checking every stairwell in the hospital on every shift and hand signing a written log in each stairwell, to prevent something like this from happening at our Hospital. If anything went awry in one of the stairwells, the log was used for accountability.

We'll never know for sure, but you gotta be S-class oblivious to not know the person you are talking to is both checked out and annoyed. Even ppl who have trouble with social cues would pick up on the lack of engagement. So I dunno. I think it was planned and he knew had had to get the pilot out of there to get his kids up in the cockpit. I don't think it was malicious, I don't think he was hoping hiskids would crash the plane, I just think he wanted a cool dad moment and it cost the life of many, his children included.

The last story is similar to Joseph Schexnider of Abbeville, Louisiana who suddenly disappeared without a trace one day in 1984. Fast forward 27 years later in 2011 and a renovation crew was tearing out a chimney in a bank right there in town. When the workers were removing the bricks, they found human bones. When the police retrieved the remains, they found Thomas’s identification. He had been right there the entire time. The police believed he got stuck in the chimney like Thomas, and remained entombed until they found him. Even had he screamed as loud as he could, the sound would have been directed upward and no one on the street would have heard him. The bank had never used fireplaces, and both of them had been sealed off when the space was occupied. That must have been a horrific way to die, but he played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.

And that very negligence cost them $3,000,000, but does that really cover the damage? Is there any amount that can truly erase the pain and suffering of losing your loved one? I don’t think so. Sure it may make things somewhat simpler, but it’ll never replace them. And it seems like this sort of thing only happens to people who truly care about the ones that are sick. There are so many elderly patients who are shuffled away into horrible retirement homes and their families could truly care less about them. But they don’t ever seem to have this type of answer to their own needs. The want to get rid of them. It’s a harsh truth but Those of you who work in the medical field know exactly what I mean. They aren’t the ones who are getting the huge paydays for their loss. That would be too easy. And if you ask me they shouldn’t! Such a sad story, he cared about her enough to ignore her intentions of staying home and not going to the hospital but he made damn sure she did. And this is how it ended up. Damn.

@@jackdurden466 truly very sad and tragic. I've worked in retirement homes here in Germany for the past 10 years. I'm currently a headnurse where I work and I've seen it all. The ones that want the best and visit regularly or even daily. But also the ones that can't care less. And than in the final moments they suddenly care because maybe there is something left to inherent. It's sickening. I have been using your style/technique/approach to story telling (as well as story development and writing style for my older and adult students) as a “genre” in my classes. The students really enjoy putting the “twists” that are prevalent in your work into their sketches. They are given a topic, and within 10 minutes they must create a scene based on a few suggestions- a place, a scenario, and characters- which is then acted out. When I let the students know they’re going to be doing a sketch in the style of MrBallen, they always have an absolute blast!

They got back from patrol one day and found a HUGE pile of boxes waiting for them. They couldn't imagine what was in them. The boxes were all crammed with food, and they were all from Soldiers' Angels. They all had notes saying "We're proud of you" and "We love you". They had a feast that night, and they still had food left from us when they got their new kitchen. I told him that my kids and I had sent two of those boxes, and I didn't think I'd get my hand back! The fact security didn't check a patient laying down unconscious in a stairwell astonishes me.

I used to deal with security at a hospital a lot and they were tough as nails. They were constantly dealing with psychiatric and homeless, chasing people and restraining and they got paid well for it! That being said, people get lazy and don't want to deal with the b.s. and I'd wager that's what happened. Either they half assed it or she was in such a position that they could see the landing, but just not her. Heartbreaking.

I was a medic for 10 years and have seen my share of dead bodies and I can remember 2 of the worst sights I’ve ever seen with dead bodies and 1 was in a car accident after it exploded into a fireball and all that was left was the outer shell of the car, the springs of the seat, his shriveled head in the backseat, a lot of bones, and the trunk of his body. It was bad and I had to get his body out in the dark while police were asking if I wanted bbq sauce with it🤢. The other was a man with dementia who went missing in the middle of summer for 2 weeks and that summer it was in the upper 90’s and 100’s in NC. He went out into the woods and shot himself in the head. Gruesome is an understatement with half of his head gone from the shotgun blast, he was swollen, covered in maggots, whatever of his head was left was black and rotten. I called my boss and said we needed air tanks and biohazard suits because it was that bad. Everyone said I turned green and I believe it. And the smells are as bad as everyone says and you can’t forget it.

Also been diagnosed with Bipolar 1 and PTSD.. not saying this as like a feel sorry for me thing. Some of it is just genetics from my parents and some of it is because of choices i have made and the consequences of those choices. And some for just some really terrible things that have happened in my life. We are moving from texas to Washington in a week and finally i see a light at the end of the tunnel. For reasons i won't get into, just a week ago it seemed like this would be impossible.. and i feel truly at peace for the first time in probably 8 years or so.. i just wanted to say you're videos and your honesty about the mental issues you had coming back from the military has inspired me to be more open about my issues and really working on myself instead of just drinking alcohol to stop the anxiety , which never worked.. just made everything worse. Guys, pro tip: if you think you hear someone yelling for help, GO FIND THEM. Don’t just ignore it.
If you see something out of the ordinary, address it. Two stories here could have ended very differently if one person had done something about what they saw. Even if it’s not your fault or your problem, *make it your problem*.

I seen this story told in Air crash investigations and it was some what different. The pilot whose kids where on the plane, was the captain for the flight and the pilot in the back was his friend another pilot joining them for the trip. He was the one sitting with the captain's kids in the back of the plane. The young boy asked his fathers friend the other pilot sitting with them if he could visit the cockpit, so he went and asked the child's father the captain flying the plane if it was okay. for the kids to visit the cockpit he and his co-pilot agreed. The even bigger mistake was when the captain let the kids sit in the seat and grab the flight controls. The pilots were unaware that the Airbus autopilot would partially disconnect if the controls were forced in this case, it disconnected the ailerons and it led to the uncontrolled banking of the plane. The first of the children in the seat was the girl and the captain told her to turn the controls to the right and as she was doing this, he used the nob to slightly change the flight path to give her the feeling she was flying the plane. She was gentle so it caused no effect on the auto pilot. But the young lad was forcing the controls when the captain, his father done the same thing with the nob for him and of course this was the primary cause of the uncontrolled banking. All three pilots were in the cockpit the whole time during the incident according to their version of the event. One of the depictions is untrue which one?.

Hey MrBallen, convinced one of my old Army pals to reach out to Better Help. We are both disabled combat vets (Army 01-05) we live on opposite coasts so him having something like this, that can be there when his friends can’t, and give him the help he needs is huge. Especially because it’s separate from any VA politics. He is doing a lot better. Just wanted to give a shout out and thanks. Appreciate it MrBallen.

@@drawgam2946both of the things you said are true yes. Therapy is super expensive here, even for people who were promised they’d be taken care of. If you *_can_* find an affordable care or sliding scale program, a lot of times they still don’t have the resources and only have limited treatment options for minor psychiatric conditions. Like our county-level mental health only covers depression, anxiety, and bipolar. And If the medication services don’t work for you the first try or if you don’t get along with your providers you aren’t allowed to switch, they’ll just remove you from the system.
BetterHelp sucks for sure and isn’t much cheaper but it’s better than constantly calling the crisis line, and at least they let you switch if you don’t get along with your LMHP 😅
I definitely recommend checking psychology today though, a lot of therapists/psychologists/psychiatrist have telehealth options that aren’t even remotely part of the betterhelp system. Just make sure they’re properly licensed and educated for mental health and not like, a cuddle therapist, because that’s a thing 🤣

Hospitals have a system that they can attach to the back of clothing with a cord. If the patient gets out of bed it sets off an alarm. It is usually used for elderly patients that are confused. Since she had been getting out of bed and coming out of her room it should have been used. The husband should have got more than 3 million.
