This is an awesome list. Liquid Stands are incredible. I have several, and I just put the 2nd tier on one of them. Rock solid. The Behringer VS Pro Mini is a great little synth for the price. The new firmware update upgrades it to five simultaneous notes (from four), plus it updates all the factory patches to new upgraded patches, and includes a new chord mode and some other updates. The Roland Aira J-6 and T-8 are fun devices! Cool list!
The S-1 is just a ridiculously good synth, for any money. Fantastic sounds, excellent effects, useful sequencer and even the gimmicky D-Motion feature is great for controlling the filter cutoff. And it's truly polyphonic, not paraphonic like the old System 1. Just incredible.
I have a Model D and it's as close to a real MiniMoog I'll ever need!!! I also "collect" synths (what I can afford and what it sentimental to me but a MiniMogg for $5K??? HAHAHAHAH!! No way!! Model D for me!!! :) Thanks for another great video Scott!!
S-1 was my first Roland. It really impressed me, and now i'm looking to buy a bigger digital synth from them!! Its much more richer and analog-like them my Modal and MiniNova! Lacks of modulation matrix, but sounds incredible!!!
I just ordered the Solina because I had loyalty points from my Moog Muse purchase and it was on sale for what you said. Cool getting it for free. I had considered it previously but didn't want to pay for it so that was a good suggestion reminding me.
The Korg Sample 2 won't sample. It's a rompler that you can switch out sounds with an editor through usb. The Roland P-6 is what you want if you need a dinky sampler.
Sample 2 - And very limited controls as can be seen in the image he put of it in the video. Anyone who has a Microfreak can add samples ( last firmware update ) indirectly into it with far, far better controls.
Yea, I expected to see the Zoom MS70-CDR effects pedal. For those that can't afford Strymon and Eventide, and want a very creative pedal for your synth on sale for $109 today (not on sale for $159). Very easy to program no need whatsoever for software, and contains more than just reverb/delay/chorus, many more processors like graphic EQ, filters, compressors, pitch shifters, LFOs. I think the pedal sounds great and own three of them all in the aux loop of my mixer. I also own a Strymon NIghtSky for comparison and still use the Zoom. I can program an effects chain of 4 modules in just 10 minutes. 50 preset slots. NOTE: the factory presets are horrible, you must design your own or you won't be happy.
@@SethWeisfeld Don't know the what the V2 is, I have seen the updated MS70-CDR+, is that the same product you are talking about? That is what is on sale right now. I expect it is the same quality effects with a different UI, easier to use buttons.
Pro 1 is their copy of the original S. Circuits synth of the 80's. It is MONO ( & you'll need a controller keyboard ), so only recommend if you want that classic for way less than the insane prices the original now goes for ( back in the 80's NEW it was about $600. - you can buy a Hydrasynth Explorer for that now ).
Good holiday recommendations Scott. Btw, two years ago I made a random comment on one of your videos explaining an issue I was having with a vintage Mini Moog I have. I brought it out of storage and was experiencing a very odd issue. I was having what I call a "Police car" siren effect when I was playing a few of the keys. The sound "wobbled" up and down randomly like a siren. I asked your opinion and you thought it may be dusty/dirty key contacts and or bus bar. And sure enough I took it to a keyboard shop and they cleaned the contacts and entire bar and fixed the issue. The shop said it may have been from not playing it for years. I forgot to let you know about it and never thanked you for your suggestion. So, thank you for that. Btw, I picked up the mini new when I was a very young kid. Haha. Brand new. I traded my Fender Rhodes suitcase piano even up for it at a music store in Toledo, Ohio. I'm the original mini owner and its never been on the road or left my sight since I got it. And now its back to perfect mint condition again. I've never regretted my decision to trade for it, but I wish I could have afforded to keep the Rhodes too and have them both. Also, I just received a Boss (Roland) RE-202 Space Echo. A little more than your $250 review budget. I have not tried it yet, but looking forward to using it especially with the mini. The RE-202 looks to be a very solid, well made piece of equipment. Thanks again and Merry early Christmas! Cheers!
yeah I know, but there was a reason for the trade. Earlier that year I was fortunate to see Jan Hammer, John McLaughlin, Billy Cobham play. Mahavishnu Orchestra. I was up front to the stage and saw Jan playing the mini. That show changed my musical life and had to have a mini. Not to mention Keith Emerson's influence on me too. I meet Emerson and Carl Palmer one time after a show a long time ago.
Compact Aira J-6 makes an interesting alternative to the Volca Sample … seems the latter is better for live performance; the former, more modern and better in most every other respect …
The amount of info you have to know just to create this video is massive,,,, And I'm betting a few of them you could do an entire class on? see there, that's why I called you, "Teacher" somewhere in here? Thanks for all of that. peace
It's tough, admittedly. Most of what I do is spec stuff for other people, as well as a tiny piece here and there for background music on my other youtube channels. I haven't sat down and written and published music of my own for a couple of years now. Maybe over the holidays I can find some time? I miss it.
Donner has been around since 2012, started with effect pedals (and a Ukulele) and has already been Top 3 in global Amazon instruments sales in 2020, according to their website. So it's really not "that new, small brand".
Back in the day they were reselling cheapest generic Chinese pedals the same as available under any number of brands, but these days they have a number of unique tools and instruments.
The J-6 definitely can play single notes, either via midi or through the built in keyboard, you just need to not have the Chord button turned on. It’s a great little box. So many great sounds in the presets and actually plenty of control with the filter, attack and release controls.
No, my studio is full of On Stage stands. The Liquid Stands are nothing like them. The Liquid Stands are SO much more sturdy and strong, and designed better.
@@ScottsSynthStuff That's wild I could probably stand on the On Stage stands literally on one arm it's tubular steel. So is the other brand much heavier?
@@davlippo7 On Stage stands are already inexpensive and get the job done well. I'm sure there's tougher stuff, I think Gator is one of those tougher alternatives, if I remember correctly, but pricier, too.
