The sailors were content to stand on the pier and watch the ship burn. Only the non-naval personnel seemed concerned about the ship burning at the pier.

I was stationed at pearl in 95 the same thing happened to a supply ship. It was coming into port. It had a boiler propulsion system. And a valve or something ( I was not a b.t.) stuck and the boiler built up pressure. We were two ships over and it rocked our ship. Immediately sent guys there to help out for d.c. several were injured and I believe a few fatalities also. But we didn't have to call the shore f.d. we took care of it ourselves. People don't know how hot a fire on a steel ship can get. It's like a stone oven in there ventilation in mainspaces can be accomplished mechanically if the fans are not damaged. Other wise it has to be manually and cutting through that steel is not the easiest thing to do. Prayers men and women. Fair winds.

Possibility 1: The audio and video are out of sync.
Possibility 2: The cameraman deliberately shook the camera and intended to sync up the explosion's audio with the camera's shake later. (During the battle of Midway a cameraman jumped in a foxhole just as a bomb detonated nearby. The camera was rolling and it shook violently during the explosion, but it kept a picture. This was a big hit with audiences.)

Ship in a msintenance period. Likely industrial services compromising the ability to isolate spead of the fire. The explosion could be from any number of things. From flame impingment on fuel lines to pressurized tanks. Isolating and putting it out will be hell for the sailor involved. A shipboard fire is my worst nightmare. Saw the aftermath of the White Plains engineroom fire in 89-90. Eight dead. Pray that we only have the reported injuries. My prayers are with the crew.

Paper, clothing and bedding, plastic furniture, wire, rubber seals, insulation on pipes and walls, wooden doors, flooring, equipment, even the paint on the walls construction debris, boxes. It isn’t just a stack of paper in the middle of the floor somewhere. It is a class A fire.

It is hard to burn steel or start a fire. Plus if they were docked all their equipment and power plant should be off. They should be running auxiliary power meaning power cables from shore. The only scenario would be that they were getting ready to pull out and was warming up their engines. It depends if it is conventional engines or modern. But it could take as long as 4 hours to warm up the engines
