    Timber is a far more sustainable building material than steel, which uses loads of energy to make and produces masses of greenhouse gases. Who would want steel structural members used in their loft build - it is a thing of the past, eh Rob ! 😉

    Hi Rob great to see you back, i am looking at boarding out my loft and wondered if you are planning on doing any step by step guides (to help the basic diyer) on how you board out a loft. Would be great to know the size of the timber that you use and how you secure the joists as to not add to much weight to the existing joists and ceiling. Keep up the good work and look forward to watching more videos in the future.

    Hey Rob . Good job mate. Would you ever consider doing a loft conversion if the ceilings below the rafters were asbestos ?

    • @thetessellater9163
      @thetessellater9163 Год назад +1

      You'd get a specialist company in to remove it, and the owner would pay for that separately.

    Guys i have a question, do you need to build loft space according to a regulation like loft conversion and do you need to have specific type of stairs?
    Or simple conversion of adding boards is fine?

  • @edwardp5754
    @edwardp5754 Год назад +1

    Great Video Rob. Can I ask, what thickness of insulation did you use between the rafters, and what gap did you leave behind it for air flow? Thank you

    • @builditwithrob
      @builditwithrob  Год назад +1

      Hello Edward
      As it’s only storage space we use 25mm insulation leaving 50mm airflow gap

    • @edwardp5754
      @edwardp5754 Год назад +2

      Cheers Rob, we have a similar sized loft but don’t have the head height to make it into a habitable space. What brand and thickness of rigid insulation would you recommend for the best performance with minimal thickness? Thank you again

      Caberfloor or similar, are 8 by 4 foot tongue and groove all round (TG$)
      The ceiling structure is not 'joists' - but for light duty storage might be ok.

    always enjoyed your Videos Rob, Sorry to hear it has gone sour with Ecotrus.. Will you still install their systems or is it something you can source elsewhere? I keep toying with the idea (kids getting older and needing more space). I would get you down to sunny (ish) Essex but I don't think it would be cost effective. Good lock out on your own and keep them videos coming..
