I may try this KDE Itinerary feature here. We have excellent public transportation here on O'ahu. It would interesting to spin up a VM of Kaos and see what this thing can do! Mahalo for bringing this to my attention.
To be fair the website designers should have written the feature layout better. It still looks very robotic to me.
Bolding and stronger use of paragraphs would have gone a long way
no worries. Hats off to those who know about it, use it, or noticed it.
As a developer of my own distro I will say this. It is not a poorly researched video. The clown on the website should have mentioned that is was a kde package/extension. I also never heard about it. If they want to talk about the feature then they need to mention it. If I an a potential user that will download it it then I will want to know about that feature. If they are not forthcoming on the details then why should I download it. The responsibility is with them. Its their fault. Poorly documented features.
Gnome has apps that no one has heard too. 😅
I've been using KDE since 3 and I have never heard of it nor seen it preinstalled in any Linux distro that I have ever used.
Friend, it's not your fault, KDE has so many packages that not even the developers know how many they are. I also don't understand the mentality they follow, they increasingly add unuseful functions and packages instead of fixing errors or improving the experience in general, Gnome also suffers from something similar, only instead of adding functions they remove them, hence Linux Mint stopped offering its distributions with KDE, for some time I used it (kde) and every time I updated my PC it was like playing russian roulette, especially in the rolling release distributions. Personally, both KDE and Gnome (Although I recognize that Gnome is much more stable for a production environment) seem like a disaster to me and it is a shame that both mostly represent Linux, instead of Cinnamon or XFCE, which are reliable and well thought out.
If it doesn't begin with a K, we can't assume it's a KDE app.
KDE Itinerary is not news to me, I did test it out by accident.
However even where I am, and I have a lot of public transport options, it still falls a bit flat to be usable.
Searching for routes, it spits out airline departure times, which is nice, but no information as to which Airline it is so you can go find tickets for it.
My test route is fairly easy, there is only 1 airline that takes me to that destination, so I could fact check the data however, map feature is still a bit hit and miss.
Kde exists of Konsole dolphin Kate discover in my world I wouldn’t know any of the other stuff it can have so I understand what ya mean
"In European(sic), public transport is much more common, for better or for worse"
It's just 'for better'. There's no downside to better public transport infrastructure.
I'll have to check Itinerary out.
@SwitchedtoLinux : Tom: How could you have possibly made this correction video and not included an attempt to use Itinerary to locate a nearby train or coach with air conditioning? Haha
True....Another correction will be made tomorrow...
So they are advertising a feature that is not installed default in the distro. Who are these clowns? 🤣
Warp terminal with ai what u think about this
The main fault I see is poor formatting, sure you could have read the fine print but the flip of that is the writer could have written it in a more digestible format.
Everybody makes mistakes, NOBODY knows EVERYTHING! You didn't have to even make this video.
you have no reason to apologize... do not feed the BS
You could have proved your point in 2 minutes, but decides to make a 20+ minutes video bashing the itinerary app.
ANY distro that has stupld apps like that I would never use .
The distro doesn't come with the program, it's just available in the repos
@@StarcrossTV I have tried and tried using Kde desktop environment and I just dont like it or the kde apps in any way. Sure it has hundreds of theming options but they all look the same to me as does all the icons.
@@jimw7916 and that's totally fine. GTK desktops like GNOME are simply better suited for you
