  • Here we have an Old Hickory knife, their first foray into traditional slipjoints.
At the $40 price point, does the Old Hickory Slipjoint have a place in the hierarchy of Case and Great Eastern Cutlery? 1075 carbon steel is a huge draw for some.

Great review! I have an Old Hickory 5” Hunter, tremendous value for the price.

Good review! Hadn’t heard about this knife but ultimately think I’m going to pass on it although I’m a big old hickory user. $40 gets you a lot of knife for you money these days. While I do love basic high carbon steel, the the design doesn’t have that timeless quality their kitchen and other outdoor knives have.

Its really getting hard to beat the Rough Ryder Reserve line for the price. Case quality is not holding up at the price point anymore and the other options like Great Eastern and Jack Wolf prices are steep. Even the Standard Rough Ryder Apta line is really well done.

Yeah, I have a collection of the RRR knives myself. The quality for the price is insane.

Except that buying cheap overseas made knives is one reason why we don't have some of the great knife makers here anymore. It doesn't matter if it is a Irish made Imperial years ago or a Chinese made knife today. To give the devil his due at least R.R. isn't using a good brand name and having it made overseas. Buck are you paying attention?

I understand the hole but would still rather have the nick. Also just not a fan of the blade shape. Great presentation, I appreciate the look !

Kind of a throwback design. They could have done far better than this. Perhaps they could have retained the old hickory stamping on the blade.
