- A lovely walk along Hadrian's Wall passing the Sycamore Tree Gap, today a sad and solemn walk passing the tragically felled famous sycamore tree and laying some sunflowers on the stump.
Thankyou , so sad .
In usa , utah .
Tragic! Historic trees that have witnessed historic events and survived to be 100 years old or more, must be protected. If they fall due to illness, or a lightening strike, the remains must be used in a way that it honors the tree. Wood can be re-purposed into something else. It must be re-used as furniture, wooden plaques, gavels, etc. It must not be burned or turned into wood chips. Punish the person who did this, they are repugnant & sickening. Steep fines, and public scorn.
I dont mean to sound dense. I'm a hopeless romantic. But since the tree was so young and healthy and the roots are still intact, would that warrant a chance for regrowth in the future? Or the tree is just dead dead?
@@sharonmiller7213 The news of this vandalism is still coming out. The tree was 300 years old, and very healthy. It had meaning and was known about to all the people who live near it. It was a location people gathered under it, to celebrate the seasons. I don't know if anything can be salvaged. Though I read the community is going to replant some younger saplings. The vandal probably had no clue to the significance of that iconic tree. Maybe the vandal was some angry person, some uncaring person or someone with mental illness. Losing it was very sad, and nothing can fix the problem. Trees aren't super fast growers. I read they can grow as much as 10 feet in height per year,...but I don't know if that is verifiable.
We were only there 4 weeks before it was cut down and it was such a beautiful place with lots of people around. Seeing it laid on the floor is so sad.
Aw great video. Shame about the tree 🌳 😢
As an American neighbor, I am so sorry.
I want that 16 year-old on camera explaining himself and his actions.
THEN we make him plant trees for the next ten years.
It's not dead, its root system is still alive and with a few decades that tree will be back.
I was just asking this. I really hope you're right.
@Fusion_4000 this is a really big "if"
That particular species of tree is as old as the dinosaurs, extremely resilient. Now it isn't a 100% guarantee that it will grow back without issue, however the odds are so good if it was a financial bet I'd go all in. So long as no one else messes with it :P
a rotten deed.
my condolences to the local people, over this act of vandalism.
Love always,
The Americans
The tree has been there for over 400 years, So give the offender at least 10% behind bars, 40 years.
yes put a 16 year old behind bar for felling a damn tree for 40 years 😂 If only justice was delivered according to the logic of revolutions for every petty crime civilisation would cease to exist.
the child should simply be scolded and let off lmao 😂
🙁🙁🙁🌳
should have zoom in on the stump , damn Tree ring are so fine , cant even see it on camera
it was cultural terrorism, its no coincidence this symbol felled the same time they are destroying statues/history all over these places.
After what happened in year 2020,it created a bad future timeline.
In my Area if you cut down trees that arent yours.... You have to replace with a tree of the same kind and same age/size, all costs of the tree shipping planting maybe even first years care etc.
Its baffling how the tree end up were it did very very strange when a tree is cut down it falls next to the stump how did it end up were it did 4 to 5 meters away from the stump I no it was windy but no way it would be blown away from the stump or roll I would appreciate it if someone could exsplane this no one seems to be asking these questions very strange
I don’t want to know the perp’s name or why it was done. I don’t want that reprehensible vandal to get any recognition or notoriety.
Silly question, can they not graft the tree back onto the trunk.
Theoretically, yes, but there's about a 99% risk of failure. Grafts are usually very small, very young growth not 200 year old trees.
The tree is a Sycamore. It can grow back by itself, but it will take like 20+ years minimum. It's a true shame that someone did this.
What can they do now? I guess the only thing they can do is plant a new tree and let it grow. It’s so sad.
2:17 Now we are going to have a new attraction; the most famous tree stump in the world. 🌳
It will regrow in a few years. In 2 years it will have 2 meter shoots reaching upwards. Don't give up hope. Sycamores survived mamoths leaning up on them.
Why would anyone want to do this ? Are they sick . Its heartbreaking.
Say a prayer. Plant a new tree. Move on. Make ???? out of the fallen tree.
Why was it felled?
Hi. No one knows except whoever did it. Maybe we'll find out soon.
Because the person who did it is a see you next tuesday of the biggest kind
For likes. But after backlash in comment section the kid took the video down.
@darkstarr2321 I'm stealing that
Grind that stump out and plant a new tree
It’s a shame that someone would do this, but it’s a damn tree people!
It's more than that. It's an issue of why would someone destroy this. What is the mindset and why? A totally unnecessary destructive action.
It's a tree, worse things happen at sea.
Somebody go plant 10 sapplings and in 10 years environmental equity restored.
Where are the tears and outrage about the rain forrest destruction for palm olive oil in Malaysia, Bornea, Indonesis and the loss of orangutang habitat ? Get real people and see where the real fight is.
Yawn.
Yep, folks losing their head like it's the end of the world.. It's a shame.. but hey ho shit happens
"Please don't touch the tree" wow.. they really have nothing better to do..
People can have care and concern about more than one thing. People can also make videos about whatever they choose. Search or make your own videos about those things then instead of judging other people's interests, concerns and videos......
Agree with you up to a point re- palm oil. However, this is murder too.
@@dawnpettet5280 Scales and levels my friend. I'm sure locals are devastated to loose a local landmark and yes it's a disgrace and a traguc indictement on what ouf country has become. The environmental impact of this is almost zero, we have the daily fail with 6 headline stories about the loss of 1 tree while millions are being destrioyed each year in other parts of the world. Every loss is tragic to my way of thinking, especially as it was an act of vadalism......but think of the bigger picture !!!
