An obscure masterpiece. Full of pain. Full of Suffering. Full of darkness. The odor of the Abyss. The certainty of the Shadow. The home that is lost, the life that is destroyed, the life that is taken ... My Dying Bride is not of this world is really on another level above here. A sublime band that never disappoints.
It really is heart warming to see that my dying bride kept faithfull and loyal to their style and signature thus keeping loyal to their fans unlike many other dissapointing bands Thank you my dying bride Thank you for saving me

I think on the next one they will deliver some good stuff though :)
How odd... I LOVE the vocals on this album. I love this SONG. I don't think the other album vocals are any better or worse: just different chapters of the story. You gotta admit, the harmonies kick ass..m

"The Old Earth", "The Long Black Land" and "Your Broken Shore" made it already into my best of MDB list. This album was truly worth the wait, I'm in love with it, despite some of the negative feedback it got. The masters of misery!
Those are definitely my favorites on the album too, but you're probably like me and prefer growling vocals over clean and these are the only songs with growls, unfortunately.
That's a great comparison they are very similar. I like My Dying Bride's early material when they were real heavy. This is elevator music compared to what they to make.
Album's about on par with Feel The Misery for me after a few listens. Like that one it's a few great tracks outnumbered by some good ones. The Solace, The Long Black Land and The Old Earth are stunners while the rest are solid enough. I do think it goes back to that For Lies I Sire/A Map of All Our Failures vibe while I felt Misery was perhaps a shade more Dreadful Hours, but neither see the band entirely resting on their laurels either. It's really impressive that they're still this good this far into their career.
I disagree it's on par with FTM but that's because I agree with the latter part of your comment. It's more like FLIS which was my least favourite MDB album overall, whereas FTM was a return to a more Dreadful Hours type gothic death/doom album. Was really hoping they'd top FTM but this is a huge step down for me

I like both sides of the band and arguably even prefer this more depressive doom tilt they're on, but FLIS is far from their most consistent effort and for people who prefer that Dreadful Hours style sound, Misery was the first real bone they were thrown this side of A Line of Deathless Kings, EPs notwithstanding. The first 3 songs on Ghost start off bread and butter enough but once The Solace kicks in...maybe they'll go back to it again next time? I definitely feel for people who miss that side of the band.

A duet with Peter and Aaron.. oh why do you tease me so! It would've been beyond magnificent, maybe that's why it never happened.. we were not worthy such a divine pairing? But been fan of both bands for more than 20 years now, (Gods I just felt really old :P ), and those two voices are some of the most unique ones out there. Can hear the passion and emotions so clearly, which elevates the music so much imo.
Seems you did not listen their gems like black voyage, for you, a kiss to remember, for my fallen angel, the cry of mankind, my wine in silence, sear me III, my body a funeral. the wreckage of my flesh and much more old stuff.
I didn't like this on the first time. Now I listen it over and over again because it just flows. For me this had happened many times with MDB: song opens when you listen a song many times.
I still love their sound from the early years.. Fast, Dark and Heavy. Hardcore and beautiful done at the same time.. As the flowers witheres and Trinity.
