When I was in Israel on Birthright, the hotel had special light switches/timers that you could set before Shabbat so that the lights would go on and off when you wanted! Also, they had a special Shabbat elevator that stopped at EVERY SINGLE FLOOR so that people wouldn’t have to push a button and therefore do work!

    Shabbat sounds so cool!
I feel a little bit sad.. I know one of my great grandfathers was Jewish and absolutely nothing has been saved from his family. The fact that he was a Jew was never even spoken about until I discovered it myself and took the information to my grandfather and asked him.I guess it starts again with me..

Shabbat is my favourite day! Like you, some things don’t necessarily makes sense to me but I realised that the days I strictly observed it I actually felt way better so nowadays the only rule I’d break is the electronic to turn on and off Synagogue now that everything is online!
I guess that’s the beautiful thing of Shabbat tho, G-d told us to rest and so much time has passed and so much has changed that not only people’s idea of what rest means is different but what should be expected of us is also up to interpretation, I guess. I love that! I am shomer because it makes me happy, I’ve tried otherwise but this is what worked better for me but I can appreciate people that have such a busy life to sit down with their whole family and watch a movie, I mean, isn’t this resting as well? It’s beautiful how every single Jew has a different way of observing shabbos and I’m always so curious to know how they do it, or even if they do it I guess!
It’s already Friday where I live so I have to end it with a: Shabbat Shalom!

    This is so interesting!
I’m not Jewish, I’m actually a devout Christian. For us christians, it’s also mandatory to keep the sabbath holy, and it’s so interesting to see how it differs between religions.
It’s cool to see how Jews and christians both keep the sabbath holy in different ways, but also in similar ways too. There are actually more similarities than differences!
Thanks for posting such an interesting video.

    this is too important:
The restrictions on Saturday are tailored to the person's mental set.
It's a day of being inside. In our soul
On Saturday, when you adhere to the rules, you can achieve a relationship of intimacy and love within yourself and between yourself and the Lord.
The definitions of Judaism are halakhic. Shabbat laws require us to Change our perspective. To live in a state of being and not a state of action and creation
To be satisfied, to embrace what there is and not chasing another achievement
. Whether as small as baking another cake or as large as completing a research paper. it is going to another reality, where not a singel thing can be added, Because your soul is satisfied.
It is a different existential essence.
A reality to which only spiritual things can be added - smile, kind words, Torah study, stories for the children, joy at the Sabbath table, fancy dress that Uplift your inner spirit.
Saturday creates a balance between the everyday race, the environment of stress, the noise outside and creates a dialogue within the mind, listening to your "inside"

In my home Shabbat is such a special day. For many many many years I struggled with all the restrictions I can't do this, I can't do that, I am sure everyone knows what I am talking about. Then one day the thought came to me. As Jews we are taught to question everything and yes we truly are a choosing people. I applied this logic to the restrictions on Shabbat and everything became crystal clear to me. Shabbat became a single day when I could not work into a single day I do not have to work. I no longer felt the restriction against going shopping and adopted the mindset of I simply don't have to go shopping today. I applied this to everything. Yes the work will still be there, the shopping will still need to be done but not today. Today I can gladly put all the drama and stress of everyday life on hold and enjoy not just the physical but the mental rest as well.

Also some people have non-Jews help get around those rules. “Oh man I wish it were dark in here” *hint hint* to the non-Jew to turn off the light (for example). Jews cannot ask someone else to do work for them, they just strongly hint/suggest. Also Shabbat is considered the Bride or Queen! Women are more likely to light the Shabbat candles than men!

I am asking for your comments on this:
I am a Catholic. I do have a co-worker that is from Israel. We talk occasionally.
Two weeks ago I had a dream. I was standing outside. I looked over and saw a crone crouched down dressed in black and short gray hair. I walked over to her. She was brushing dried leaves off a bronze plaque ( looked like a grave plaque but had no name on it) on the ground. Brushing left to right. On the last pass of her hand (2 in total) she looked at me with crystal blue eyes, and said "shabbat, shabbat".
Never heard this word before and didnt know what it meant.I asked my friend from Israel and she said that it is a word used for sabbath.

at the enchant days the letter used instate of numbers so:
      Sha =ש =300 na =50 =נ h =5 =ה

I have come to the conclusion that all the laws and rules regarding Shabbat have been created by man, and not God. God only created 10 rules, man has created millions. Traditions are great and to be respected, but the original intent has been corrupted by man. I am a Jew, but I understand the difference between being commanded by God and being commanded by man.
