Peugeot 5008 best of both worlds or one to avoid?

  • BUY, LEASE OR FINANCE A PEUGEOT 5008 FROM OSV: bit.ly/2V7kafE
Peugeot's second generation 5008 switches market categories - from MPV to SUV. It can still seat seven though.
Peugeot returns to the family-orientated seven-seat SUV segment with this second generation 5008 model. It's more targeted at Surbiton than the Serengeti but that's what buyers want these days. These people will love the integrated mobility solutions that can slot into the boot - and the luxurious, spacious cabin. It's also notably efficient and very safety orientated.
    Background
Back in 2007, an explosion in consumer interest in SUVs left Peugeot scratching its head a little. The French brand had no contender of that kind to offer and needed a short-term stop-gap model to compete in this growing segment. So the marque turned to Mitsubishi, whose Outlander 4x4 was re-branded as the Peugeot 4007. That car stayed on the market until 2012, when it was replaced in Europe by a smarter-looking 4008 model we didn't get in the UK.
When the time came to replace the 4008, Peugeot knew that British buyers would want the new design - the car we're going to look at here, badged '5008'. The first generation 5008 was an MPV. Now, this moniker has been applied to a spacious seven-seat SUV. Is it any good? Let's find out.
    Driving Experience
Despite this 5008 model's switch to SUV genre, Peugeot won't be offering it with 4WD, which won't really help with the rough and ready market positioning. In compensation, an 'Advanced Grip Control' system is being offered for extra traction on slippery surfaces. And there's 'Hill Assist Descent Control to ease you down slippery slopes. The car is being offered with two petrol engines - a 130bhp 1.2-litre three cylinder PureTech unit with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. And a more powerful 163bhp 1.6-litre powerplant, which will be offered only with auto transmission.
Most 5008 customers though, will want a diesel, probably the 130bhp 1.5-litre BlueHDi unit; the older 1.6-litre BlueHDi unit continues on too, in 100 and 120bhp forms and in its pokier guise can be had with an EAT6 auto gearbox. If you want a bit more pulling power - as you might if you'll regularly be using this car to transport seven people - then 150bhp and 180bhp versions 2.0-litre BlueHDi diesel models are also available.

After watching your review, testing the 5008 at our local Peugeot dealer - we bought one! It's an absolut briliant car for this size, uses the room a lot better than our Ford Mondeo (yes, even the 5008 is 24cm shorter) and it feels much more cosier in it.

While I appreciate you telling it will take 3.2m in length, load area, with the front passenger seat down. Is it some kind of "conspiracy" within the car industry not to give measurements out ? Just doing an internet search for a vehicle type - MPV -SUV - estate. Brings back nil when it comes to just giving load lengths with seats down.. I see it more often on foreign videos. And, even though I can't understand what is being said. I can catch the full measurements in centimeters.. Some EVEN use measuring tapes ! Amazing ! Why would I go and buy a vehicle such as this, or any other type. The purpose being to occasionally carry loads - LONG items.. Yet, even on motor manufacturing websites.. They talk in "liters" and "Volumes"... Fact is. Because we carry items which are no square blocks. That "information" is neither here non there.. I want to know how long and wide the back of a vehicle is in measurements, centimeters.. Or inches.. Your video was informative.. Most other's I just find someone rattling on about cup holder's... I see it so rarely i remember the best I've seen. Honest John does a video of the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect .. Where he get's a measuring tape out and shows the measurements - length and width of the back. I was over come with gratitude on seeing this and will forever be eternally grateful to that man.....

This has to be one of the best car reviews I have ever seen. I thought 51 mins? But this was great. Thank you. I am looking to change my car for a 5008 and you have really helped me make my mind up. I went into a dealership yesterday i found myself selling the car to myself. Sales folk seemed more interested in their computer, than one customer (me) in the showroom. Hay Ho. The car and the review sells itself. Once again great job

Just a quick note. I have the GT and fully loaded it. Yes, the adaptive cruise control will bring the car to a complete stop but after the car has stopped the cruise control goes into "Pause" and you have to accelerate using the pedal and the car DOES NOT get back up to speed automatically as you mention at 42:32.
Apart from that this has got to be the best review I have seen for this car. I have owned my GT for a year now and I have come from Audi Q5, Q7 and Discovery 4 HSe's and I am over the moon with my 1st ever Pug and don't intend changing.

OSV are, without a doubt, extremely thorough in their reviews, and this is the first Peugeot I'd consider buying, and that's mainly because every question I had (and many that didn't know I needed to ask) has been well and truly answered. The car's gorgeous and the 1.2 petrol would suit my needs perfectly...but being a Peugeot there's always the worry about reliability, especially with all that tech.

This was, without a doubt, the most thorough review. Essential and to the point from the first till the last minute. Well, our family will soon become a five-member, and its time to change my audi a4 avant (12’ model).I am between peugeot 5008 (1.6 petrol 180 hp or 2.0 diesel 180 hp gt line) and skoda kodiak (l&k version, 2.0 diesel 180 hp). I think peugeot is more stylish, maybe more practical (mainly due to the back row of the 3 separate seats), has o futuristic interior and exterior which i love. On the other hand skoda kodiaq seems more spacious (especially in headroom) has o 4x4 wheel and it is more an suv (old style of course) than an mpv...what is your opinion? Also what engine do you suggest for 5008 (2.0 diesel 180hp or 1.6 petrol 180 hp)?thank u in advance and many greeting from Greece

Spiros Kom Skoda Kodiaq, Seat Tarraco, VW Tiguan Allspace and most of the other SUV‘s, also the bigger and more expensive ones like Mercedes GLE, BMW X5, even Range Rovers, have only, how I call it, 2.5 seats in the 2nd row. If you need to have 3 places in the 2nd row in an SUV, this Peugeot is one of the few options.

Im looking to buy an 5008, but haven't decided which engine yet. I think i'll land on the 1.6 THP 165, with the GT Line package. You barely mention this engine, and say that "theres unlikely to see one of those". Why is that? My motivation for buying a petrol engine, is that it suits our needs better (mostly city driving), and i need it strong enough to drag a fairly heavy trailer from time to time, not to mention five people and a full boot on vacations. Also, Peugeot is replacing the 165 bhp engine with a 180 bhp THP engine, so the local dealer has provided me with a exceptionally good price on the mentioned 165.

Hi I am looking at the 5008 GT Premimum 2021, but I am a little undecided on extras.
    Panoramic sunroom?
I am considering panoramic sunroof, but I am aware of head room constraints. However most of the time I will just have my children in middle row. Is the roof constraint that much of an issue? Does the standard GT premium come with a sunroof that is just not able to be opened?
    Seats
I like the Nappa Leather and wooden trim, but my partner doesn’t as she thinks they look like gaming chairs. Does anyone have any positive or negative comments linked to the Mistral Leather effect seats Vs Nappa Leather seats and wooden trim?
Thanks in advance, difficult at the moment as I can’t test drive or go into a show room based on covid.

why dont these reviews say if a spare wheel is available on the vehicle . A simple little red sticker on screen for no , it doesnt or green for yes it does or an amber one for a get you home wheel . I do a lot of miles and watch all these reviews and deciding my next car , i would like to know if there is a spare wheel .

Hello Dave. The 5008 SUV comes with a normal size steel spare wheel . (Not a Space Saver) Have had a 5008 SUV Allure 1.6 Pe3trol Auto for 2 years and its a very good vehicle. and so far very reliable. I also only run my vehicles on premium Petrol. There is no need for AWD because the adaptive grip control is excellent. I live in the Peak District so we get lots of extreme weather and the ability to travel in all weathers is very important.

One massive downside of these overhyped SUVs is they have smaller windows than similar MPVs. If car feels small without glass roof, it is small. 5008 looks cool outside, but inside its worse than previous generation 5008 MPV used to be.

An average male weighs about 80kg, an average female about 65kg, add a couple of kids at 30kg each, then you’re looking at an average family weighing in at about 205kg. That’s quite a bit over 150kg...unless you’re talking about a family of midgets!
