Just watched the video. We also have a BA tent with stretched elastic cord in the poles. You can unscrew the end of the poles, which allows you to adjust the length of the elastic. That will probably only work once or twice before having to replace the elastic cord. Hope this helps.
Fantastic video guys!! Loved it!! Had a question for you. I am doing the entire PCH on my bike next summer and am planning to spend a few days on the San Juans and/or the Gulf islands. I noticed that a few times you were running late and hustling for the ferries. If you had the luxury of time (say 3-4 days) what islands would you pick and which ones would you spend the nights on? In your video I felt the San Juan island seemed just too trafficky and you just did that one as a day tour. Is that one that you’d recommend I avoid?
Thanks! San Juan was pretty trafficky, especially near Friday Harbor, but we really liked the western part of San Juan Island near Lime Kiln State Park. I don’t think there’s a lot to see on Shaw Island, but it’s pretty serene. Lopez Island is also really beautiful, lots of farmland, pretty flat, but lots other cyclists. We haven’t biked on Orcas Island, but I hear the terrain is pretty challenging, lots of elevation change, it’s also pretty big. Each Island has its own vibe, so it kind of depends on what you’re looking for. Best of luck on your trip!
Great video really enjoyed it I lived in Washington state for a while but did not make it to the San juans now I have another addition to my bucket list I'm curious what bikes you all are riding?
Great video! I'm thinking of something similar next summer. Could you tell me your average distances traveled when loaded up? What is the farthest you have traveled in one day? Thanks DD
Hi Dennis! That’s awesome that you plan to do something like this next summer! When we bikepack /bike tour we vary our miles based on the terrain and if we plan to stop a lot to explore. The most we’ve ever done on a fully loaded bike was 81 miles with ~3,000 feet gain in gravel roads when we biked the GDMBR. However, that was a long day. We usually aim for around 45 - 50 miles / day. Hope that helps! Happy adventuring :)
This video is just freaking awesome!
Aww thank you! We are glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting :)

Thanks! We both have the Salsa Fargo, we decided on these bikes last year when we biked the Great Divide.
