    I like that the nerfs he did get are trying to get the player on the offensive thinking more rather than just fishing with VS1 in v trigger or something. The incentives for level 3 presidentiality and using ex moves are actually super cool changes.

    G felt inordinately strong prior to the 5.5 patch. I love that his VT duration is tied to his Presidential level. It gives G's a reason to work for it outside of itself. He's still a monster, but reasonably so.
    Edit: When's Evil Dan, Baf?

    I also think by adding some of the functions of his VT1 to his core kit at level 3 they made him potentially less V-Trigger dependent, freeing him up to make better use of V-Shift, a much needed defensive mechanic for the character. His long normals also mean that he can often get a *lot* more from his V-Shift than most characters, usually something like C.MP -> EX rush punch -> The rest of the combo. As a character desperatly in need of a defensive mechanic, I think G's actually in a good spot for people who are committed to the character, but if you banked on his VT1 to win then you're going to have a harder time.

    This is exactly what i thought you would say, and i have yet to fully test everything myself. But as a G player who has a few ideas for ex command gram combos from lvl 1 and 2 and i like vs2 and vt2, this patch's system changes make me feel stronger than ever

  • @Toomnyusernae
    @Toomnyusernae 3 года назад

    Biggest buff I have to re-check is that all of his other special moves during VT1 that aren't the V-Skill 1 use less meter. Dash punch > VT1 V-skill 1 globe, low dash punch > wheel kick is the most optimal route. But aside from the low dash punch > wheel kick cancel, G has few rewarding routes. I think this was an appropriate nerf to get people to start using the other routes to save some V-time to do a bit more damage but give up on other juggle routes. It feels more balanced either way. Fun character. G's best combo with VT2 is taunt into his VT2 command grab and make him say "Shake hands with - President Power!"

  • @Kasaaz

    I know the changes all work together to get the character to where they want it. But the huge number of changes make it incredibly difficult to adjust play. Just feels like it would almost be easier to pick up a new character.

    Level 2 G-Burst also got a chip damage nerf, and recovery nerf on the L version.
    Also, using the new Level 3 EX ability; Under > G-Burst EX offers absolutely insane corner carry, distance creation, and time to get meter/VS2 on hit.

    I'm happy that, while he did get toned down, he also got meaningful buffs. I do like that they're pushing you to level up as G and rewarding you for doing so. With the level 3 moves being EX-cancellable, I feel like VS2 is more viable this season.

    I’m all for balance and all, and the fireball nerf G can work with but for VT 1’s timer to scale by presidentiality level? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
    Most VT activates are used when you’re downed and backed into a corner, built from getting hit. Of course mixed in with your V-skill but not nearly enough to fill a full three bars before your opponent’s either dead or close to dying.
    If G’s going to use this trigger on the back foot, in most of those situations he’s been knocked down and given less time to make a comeback from presidentiality decrease.
    So in what viable scenario would G be able to get the maximum VT time?

    • @Sir_Man_Can
      @Sir_Man_Can 3 года назад

      Perhaps if he reads with a V shift/reversal and pushes for the offense, with both routes giving him nice Oki. His long normals and easy g charge combo routes can really make him a comeback machine even without v trigger, and popping the Trigger raw when in Lvl 3 seems to be viable now.

  • @Hailstormful

    Some pretty severe nerfs, but it just makes him more honest...
    Granted, G is a character with no 3-frame buttons and no reversals, so V-Shift is gonna help him a LOT on the long run

    yeah, but why not buff VS2 instead tho?
    at least make it so you can keep the defense or just get lower by one stack.
    or heck, just give it the properties given during VT1 or something.
    or give it perma defense while on VT2 so we can remember Q a lot more.

    • @Hollowdarling
      @Hollowdarling 3 года назад +2

      Yeah I wished they would've slightly buffs VS2 just to give ppl more incentive to choose it. Alas looks like throw away VTs and VSs will exist until the end of the games lifespan since there's only two patches left. :/
      Cause most of the throw away mechanics has existed since day one and they refuse to fix many, because multiple patches have come and gone with nothing, and now we're literally near the end. Meanwhile they've played favorites and fixed others. Like it upsets me, why add new VTs and VSs if you're not even gonna be passionate about making them work...

    • @ocost3000
      @ocost3000 3 года назад +1

      Because by nerfing VS1 and making presidential level matter in and out of VT1, VS2 is already buffed quite a bit.

    • @Hollowdarling
      @Hollowdarling 3 года назад

      @@ocost3000 that's true, but it's obviously not enough. I haven't seen a single G player use or even entertain the idea of using VS2 since the patch came out.
      Honestly they could've buffed the defensive property on it, that would've made it more compelling since keeping your presidentiality semi-permanent isnt good enough for G players and the defensive buff goes away on knock down. It has no real offensive purpose, unlike a parry which is defensive but rewards you with offense. G players do fine with just having level 1. I think this Vskill is the only Vskill in the game that has no offensive purpose.

    • @ocost3000
      @ocost3000 3 года назад

      @@Hollowdarling I think it's waaaaay too early to start talking about "obviously not enough". But that's just me I suppose.

    • @Hollowdarling
      @Hollowdarling 3 года назад

      @@ocost3000 You're right. But a lot of this stuff tends to get figured out week 1. I don't even see ppl experimenting with VS2 in matches. And ppl have tested it on streams in training.
      But we'll see how things play out. Hopefully it does become an option for ppl.

    Man you really skipped over how crazy doing last seasons VT1 mixups in Level 3 this season are. You could only do the crazy grab resets in VT before, but now you can use it all game. This more than makes up for the shorter VTrigger.
    You also skipped over how V shift will effect G. His primary weakness has nothing to do with his offense at all. Toning it down offsets the increase in defense he gets now. You can’t stay in on him for free anymore, and that still makes him an enormous problem. Because Vshift back throw into the corner means guess for game every time with G now, and once he’s level 3, again, his wheel kick/g burst whiffs into command grab threats really turn the tables quickly. And while it is true that you can try to v shift out of it, G baiting v shift in the corner = GG every time.

  • @superbigtime

    They nerfed VS1, but it's still absolutely eons above VS2. With specials like his, G is fundamentally always going to be strong - it's almost unavoidable without very noticeable changes to his specials.
