the battery holder is offset down so if you fold it back and twist it so the offset part is going up instead of down you can fit a bigger battery in there.
Thanks, but it doesn't fit in properly that way. If you check out the tongue of the strap, it comes in at an angle and doesn't latch all the way in like the normal direction. I ran it that way the first battery and it flew out on a landing.
My 3S traxxas 5000mah is 26mm high. I also have ran ultrashocks for 2 yesrs on 3 trucks, tbey are a little soft but haven't had a problem big enough to upgrade. Same goes for the servo's. I bash pretty hard, just waiting to upgrade when something breaks but my experience is it isn't that bad. My Hoss will be €539 here, Maxx is €649. Hoss just really floats my boat so happilly paying that! I did order a enginefan for €15 but thats just to be safe.
Nice upgrades, I replied to CCxRC's post about the battery clasp with this if you can understand what I am trying to explain it really is a easy simple fix. After seeing the latch up close such a simple fix CA glue a section of hard pin side velcro on the top of the latch and then CA glue a piece of the battery strap type with the both velcro types on it under the bottom part of the latch up under it in the grove on the bottom, then simply fold it over and stick it to the top Velcro you put on the top of the battery latch I think this will work... super simple and easy!
Doesn't the battery strap rotate and flip around for the taller batteries? I just bought one today and it swivels to accommodate 2 and 3 s batteries. Just wondering if it was an over site at launch of product.
Mine came with aluminum nuts and they were fine but I bought red ones to match and I bought the traxxas tool kit and the perfect size hex screw ended up stripping the the edges of the nuts
day 1... broke one front CV, inspected rears and other front, all show signs of failure soon. Crappy ass plastic design for the power of the 3s I got with mine. Sooo... time for a tekno axle kit, and 17mm hubs/wheels. Next is whatever else I break. BT module ordered to slow down some of the ramping /sensitivity to keep it all alive while I'm learning to drive it better.
I couldn't help but notice the tires on your Hoss What are they. I like them. I run Blockades and Hole Shots on my Slash Ultimate, they work great. Same type of tread as yours.
I would add a stiffer servo saver to the list, because the steering bellcrank is old and weak. I think is the same that comes with the original slash 4x4. I installed an Ace DS1313 servo into my Stampede 4x4 roller chassis like 8 years ago and had plenty of power and speed but the spring was so weak that took all the movement, mainly at dead stop.
Good morning buddy!! What kind of wheel and tire set is this? Also i watched your shock mount vid, do you think it would help my front end of the Hoss by moving the shock over one toward the tire just until i get better shocks? I was just worried with that angle that the bar in middle of the shock might bend easier. Lol guess that's all part of the hobby!! 🤣 Thanks in advance!!
Upgrade #2 Arrma Big Rock. Once you've spent the $150 on upgrading the Hoss you could have bought 2 Arrmas. Same with the Maxx, add the wide kit = 2 Arrma 3s BLX vehicles.
@@RazorRC thanks so much, I was worried that I got mine broken, and real quick, do you know why it was designed like that? Keep up the good content thanks.
Bought my son this truck for Xmas, I would suggest a maxx instead, its a good truck but it costs 140 bucks to upgrade to steel drive shafts, and about 2 months into running it it feels sluggish, so I put the 4s vxl system in and it's still feels slower than my maxx idk, but between the shocks, driveshafts, and other upgrades I wish I would have just got him the maxx
I know it's been 7 months but if it still feels slow you could always try upgrading to a higher voltage battery and also a higher tooth count pinion gear. I hope this helps!
Love driving my hoss. It’s lively and fast out of the box. I just don’t understand why traxxas made this a 500 dollar truck when it can use so many upgrades out of the box. Once you complete each of these upgrades, it may as well be worth the wait to save up a little more and just the get the ultimate truck: XMAXX!
Sooooo 5 upgrades u need right off the bat? Like brand new out of the box after spending 500? This is why i only run associated or losi/tlr. U actually get what u pay for with them
So, for $480 bucks, you think it’s an “oversight” they didn’t put more options for a battery strap instead of they just want more of your hard earned money? And same with the weak ass servo, the plastic wheel hex, and the radio??? Yeah, won’t be buying that truck ever.
They are not must-have. 3s will fit and i bash standard shocks for a long time no problem. Hoss is perfect for me after 2 Rustler VXL and a Nitrosport, and the appearance appeals to me. Maxx is €649 here without batt and charger,so to big a step up for me. €730 (vs €850 maxx) with 3s batt + charger is already a huge ammount for a toy.
@@thefightingplumber You're obviously a light basher. Every Traxxas needs to be upgraded out of the box. I mean a plastic geared servo on a $500 MT. RIPOFF!!! And then the diffs leak ... oh my.
Another poor part on the HOSS is the brand new A-Arms... the rears are not long enough🤬. I saw rubber on my rear fenders and noticed the rear tires HIT the fenders when landing from a jump. Same goes for the steering links...It is possible to adjust, but COME ON TRAXXAS! Also, why not put the same fan on the 540XL motor that the MAXX has out of the box.... Traxxas obviously didn’t check all the boxes when they came out with it. All that being said, once you check all those boxes... THING IS AN ABSOLUTE ANIMAL
I definitely noticed the rear fenders hitting the wheels on jumps in my video. It crinkled and almost pulled the body off the rear mounts first bash. Are the arms actually new? I thought they were same as Rustler 4x4.
I had one in my spartan which is really unnecessary to have metal gears in a boat so I swapped the reg 2075 to the spartan and the 2075x to the hoss for now until I get the Traxxas 2250 for my hiss
I'm considering this vehicle because I have a ford raptor (slash 2wd) with the velenion system and a bunch of upgrades. I got nickel, 2s, and 3s, and the maxx only runs 3s and 4s so it'll cost way more to run. I like my ford raptor but it's unreliable with 3s especially, always breaking something. I've ran a good 200 packs through it though. Body is cracking and I've broken 4 driveshafts, spur gear, stock servo, and tons of axle carriers and knuckles.
I'd say at least check out the arrma big rock. For the price I was disappointed this still uses the same cheap plastic shocks & servo and these motors really wake up on 4s which the vxl3s can't handle.
$500 and doesn't come with the bluetooth Link!?! So what you're saying is you need to buy what the truck should have came with in the first place. $149 worth of "upgrades". (not mad at you, it's just what Traxxas does, and you're just pointing out the trucks flaws)
You can set end points all day but when these things are jumping and shredding with all that torque there’s a huge amount of stress on a plastic gear and it ain’t gonna hold up.
You do realize the battery strap lifts straight up, rotates 180 degrees and fits taller batteries right? It's part of the design. And are you giving the truck cpr? Why you mashing down on it the whole time?
You do realize that if you flip the battery strap upside down, it comes in at an angle and doesn't actually lock into place, right? Your battery will fall out on the first big landing.
I think they only supply one battery strap because it fits the traxxas batteries. If they supply you with the larger one you won't be buying traxxas batteries
I like how you say it's a good truck but they kinda missed a few things...and then you go and buy a traxxas part for your first upgrade. They didn't miss it they made more money lol
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION on the best one RC to buy under $100? I wanna buy one for my 9 year old twin nephews?? Help!! I know if anyone would know - YOU WOULD! Thanks a million
got it, thanks! the battery strap has been working fine as long as you use batteries that fit in the dimensions, but if I have more problems I'll try your solution.
It does, but it doesn't fit right and pops open on the first decent sized jump because it's not really made to work like that. You can tell because the angle is all wrong and it doesn't hold very well.
It doesn't snap in properly that way, next time check the tongue and you'll see it's at an angle and not all the way seated. If you do big jumps, it will unlatch and the battery will fall out.
the battery holder is offset down so if you fold it back and twist it so the offset part is going up instead of down you can fit a bigger battery in there.

All you have to do with the stock battery hold down is twist it’s over and it will fit 3s
HUDSON GAMES the tongue won’t snap in properly and eventually the battery will fall out if you do any serious bashing
Great detailed review 👍 Explains things nicely - feels like a missed opportunity on price over upgrades with this rig.
Okay, now we need a running video with this new setup. The jconcepts Choppers are one of my favorite tires for dirt.

Well darn my controller doesn't have that switch right behind the finger trigger. It has the two red buttons up top and the two round ones.
