Park Butte has got to be one of the most beautiful corners of the lower 48. I filmed a shoulder season video there a few years back. The first time we went we trudged through deep snow in white out conditions in November. We were able to stay the night, and awoke to bluebird skies. It was quite the experience for a Wisconsin boy.
Hey Brendan, I agree - a great vid. Re: your question: this trail and lookout are situated in the national forest and recreation area respectively. Put another way, this lookout is neither in a national park nor a wilderness area. The national park boundary is over 10 miles to the east of here.
We’ve been hiking to the Park Butte lookout since the 1970’s One of our favorite places. Where heaven touches earth.
Truly one of the most beautiful lookouts in the North Cascades 🙏🏻

Great video. How did you get the permit to fly in the park?
It’s just illegal, but not everyone cares about the law
