I have a fun ocg story: A little over 10 years ago my local dollar store just happened to be selling packs from the "Mythological Age" set and some other sets. $1 each. Of I course I bought them all, about 25 packs in total if I remember. Prolly one of my luckiest days and I still got all the cards in a binder
I’m not going to lie, opening Japanese packs is really fascinating to see due to having some artwork and border difference, best rarity I got from the Japanese cards is a super rare magic jammer.
The older lady card is The Merciful Nun which got censored to The Forgiving Maiden in the TCG. Crazy just how much they had to change the artwork.
Im glad you decided to open these. The artwork and card format is so old school, its amazing. Never seen these packs opened before.
FYI... Some ultimate rares from those sets are the reprints of some of the iconic cards from the first seven sets (vol. 1 - vol. 7) of the japanese ocg that is why you can pull ulti blue eyes from "spell of mask". The first print of blue eyes (ultra rare) is from vol. 1
I absolutely love the ocg cards for nostalgic purposes . The shininess is so different and they look more like the anime . I have most of a Marik ocg starter deck from childhood that’s very played but the artwork on those cards is incredible and less censored than our tcg counterparts.
That fusion card near the beginning - with the jester on the dragon - that you didn’t know about got a common print in astral pack 7. Only printing of it. NM copies go for about $20. Before AP7 it appeared in some early Yugioh games.

I remember seeing these packs at the small Japanese import shop. They were quite expensive even then.

My main experience with the OCG was getting the character structure decks (Yugi, Kaiba, Joey and Pegasus) and the premium packs that came with five cards - all ultra, secret or parallel rare in quality. Good times. I even managed to acquire a couple of the OCG promos that came in magazines back then.
I’m based in Hong Kong where everyone plays OCG and I can totally relate. Not being able to read the cards is one thing, but buying a set and not being able to pull anything worthy is something else entirely. Thanks for opening these retro packs Ruxin, we’d love to see more OCG openings in the future!
Old school packs bring back such nostalgia for me, pushing 31 and impressed that there are still unopened boxes out there. Nice work.

Would love to see you open more OCG packs as I’m not as familiar with it. Seen the classic TCG packs opened many times by now, but these feel fresh to watch get opened.
These old OCG cards are so cool, I ended up buying an ultra rare Thousand Eyes Restrict from the Thousand-Eyes Bible set recently for my Relinquished + Thousand Eyes collection. The old card format just looks beautiful, like the most recent Premium Pack reprint.

I didnt open them but i have watched openings and i love the Raritys that they have and they have it cheaper per boxed so like sp is not 100 $

I love the old OCG vanillas which we haven't got in the TCG for many years (some of them are still missing I think).

I think that OCG old packs being opened look really cool, it’s really different to TCG pack openings.

This made for an amazing opening, it felt nostalgic and fresh at the same time. That Toon Summoned Skull was so beautiful, I just love the old school style for the cards.

The ulti looks clean but my favorite part is the format of the cards with Attack and defense in their own square

I've opened quite a bit OCG loose packs before, as old as Vol 2, and it's such a treat. Only old box I opened was an OCG Metal Raiders and I managed to get like 6 or 7 holos, including Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts Ultra Parallel and the Ulti which was Archfiend of Gilfer. Those old Ultis went way harder than even our first Ultis did in the TCG
OG ocg ultis look absolutely fantastic. Why did it take them so long to bring ultis to the Tcg?

I remember when Yugioh was first coming out in English Walmart in my area had booster boxes of the Japanese set thousand eyes bible this was my first experience with the Ocg and I’ve had those same cards since then. I would love to own more of them

OCG packs are amazing. We had a shop in my city that once Yu-Gi-Oh became popular, They started getting some OCG packs. I pulled an OCG Seven Tools of the Bandit.
Really fun opening, when I was in Japan last year I picked up some of the cheaper what I assume are reprint versions of the old style was really fun!

I opened Spell of Mask when I was way younger. Obviously, I didn't know the potential of what I could pull. I got to experience the majority of the OCG pack back when I was a kid because a lot of the card shops carried a lot of the packs. But I haven't seen any open until I started watching you. I like the old OCG packs because they I love the way they look.
That blue eyes ulti looks unreal! Crazy to think they had ultis way before we started getting them in the TCG and wish we had ultis earlier...

OOh I actually started out with the OCG, those cards really REALLY bring back some amazing memories from my early Yugioh days! I've always preferred the quality of OCG cards to TCG, but pulling foils from the OCG in those days was painfully difficult! It did make it so much more rewarding when you did though! :D

I love the card layout of the old ocg cards! the only ocg product i've opened is rush duels and its cool cause they have cool retrains of alot of the older cards so im looking forward to ur rush duel opening!

It would be cool if we had gotten aligned release dates in all three release regions as new cards came out, but there needed a release schedule to get all of the cards out

had an OCG joey structure deck my grandparents got for me after a trip to japan. It had way better monsters, spells, traps, and card stock quality that what we got in the TCG

Back when I was 12-13 I would go to a book store to play with and trade Yu-Gi-Oh cards on the weekends. They had the Legend of Blue Eyes and Magic Ruler packs, but they also had Japanese packs, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why anyone would buy them. If I could go back in time and buy a few, I would now. I think they're super cool.
I really prefer these old school OCG openings to new TCG ones tbh. They are much more fun to see opened. Also I gotta say the old card frame is so nice. Shame we never got that in the TCG.

Never personally opened OCG packs before. Had a chance as a kid because one of my friends had access to Japanese packs somehow. No one was interested in trading for his packs though because for some reason OCG cards were frowned upon at the park I went to.

I have an old yugioh card from 1999 and honestly coming back into the game after 10+ years, I like the newer cards better.

I have a psa10 spell of mask Blue -eyes as well...one of the most gorgeous cards across any CG ive ever seen.

i've only opened two ocg products an old pack that had a dark magician girl and dark magician on it and the secret shiny box which i got the sky striker box with the mobilize engage sleeves and roze acryllic stand
