"How to resistance trick"
I often receive the question of the way of resistance trick.
Therefore, I made the video of resistance trick.

Since there are a lot of confused comments from a year to a few years back and if anyone is still curious on what this player is actually doing, here's the lowdown:
1.) He saves initially as a "safety net", just in case something screws up (Resistance dies, etc.).
2.) He tails the Resistance until the point where he crosses into another area. When you see the resistance move out of sight, save on a separate file (just to be safe) and exit to main menu.
3.) Reload the game and you'll be back where you originally encountered the Resistance in this area, basically the checkpoint. Now all you have to do is run to where the Resistance entered the next area and go through.
4.) The next part he does is only to shave off mere seconds from the clock...he saves and quits out, then reloads from that save only to reduce the time he spent in the menu. But this is absolutely pointless because he's just going to repeat step 2 and save after the guy enters the next area, thus negating the need to "save and reload" upon entering a new area. So I don't get why he does this.
5.) The reason he goes a different route is due to the map, if you look at the map you'll see where he enters has practically a straight shot to the area where the Resistance changes out of the PMC uniform just before this whole sequence ends. So it does save you time going that other route...if you're still confused on where exactly he enters, look at your map and look for where this whole sequence ends. Follow the main path from that complex back along the biggest road and you'll find it on the left there. That or just use common sense to figure out where he went, yes he didn't need to speed it up but whatever.
6.) Anyways, whenever you go in the way he went head to where the Resistance is changing into the PMC outfit and tail him from there...then save after the short scene where he switches uniforms. When you exit and reload, he will be there now so you just have to run a straight shot to tail him and bam...you're done.
The "trick" is that you're manipulating the game into pushing the resistance character into the next area, while not actually adding time to your own clock from the initial tailing on each section. Every time you save when he enters the next area and reload, none of the time was added due to the fact that you received a checkpoint at the start of this sequence/the area you're in. The time continues from that checkpoint, not from the moment you save.
If you're still uncertain, save your game and look at the time for that save. Say it's 2:20:00 or something. Now leave the game running for an hour and save again, reload the safe and it will still be 2:20:00...not 3:20:00.
Only posting this due to the confusion of people...some from only a few months ago but some older.
While the process itself may seem to take longer overall, the reason for doing all this is to turn a 20-40 minute sequence into maybe a total of 10 minutes counted on your speed-run/BBE run. Any tricks to shorten time are beneficial, especially on long drawn out parts like this.

So you're basically saving when he enters a new area while you stay in the current. Exit, load, go the next area, rinse, repeat. Right?
Occasionly in certain spots you can see those little arm robot things in their disguise. Remember how they bust into the church when your with Big Mamma in that suit? Thats them... and you can see them during the follow part.
all this just to save a few seconds? Totally worth it for a speed run!
If by stealth, you mean being stealthy, and by Bandana, you mean Young Snake w/ Bandana FaceCamo, then yes.

When you save the game counts the time you had when you entered the area. Even if it takes the resistance member 10 minutes to get to the next area, if you do the resistance trick the game counts only the time it takes YOU to get into this area. For example you had 02:05:17 when you entered area 2, the guy needed 14:02 minutes to get to the next. You save, load it and run for 00:41. So instead of 02:19:19, you have 02:05:98. It's that simple... The guy won't need 14 mins, just for explanation.
a little late, but he goes another route because you didn't put guards to sleep so he takes another route. You must be fast before the guy does that.
Well its fair to say the run wants you to finish it in 5 hours while it actually under 4.30 . Adding the cutscenes that are unskippable. so the trick here can compensate the Rest of the the time XD
I'm sorry that explanation is insufficient.
After resistance member moves to the next area, the tailing time if you save without moving to the next area is not counted.
If you load the save data, although tailing time has not been counted, resistance will already be in the next area.
it allows you to run in front of PMC's without being spotted (alert)

you get the beuaty masks by finishibg the bosses in human from with tranq gun, or non lethal way. The others you get in various ways, like you can get Otacon's by bumping into him with ur Mark 2 in mission brieifing in first act.

i Spent 2 hours in this act , my total play time is 9 hours & i only used 6 recovery items since i started the game
I was just thinking, does it really help with the time? Coz doesnt the save already count the time spent on tailing the resistance member? Then Plus the time you re-run the whole thing?

I see how this would work for a BBE run but not so much for a speedrun since speedruns now consist of timing it in real time than game time. and i might just try this for when i do the BBE run since act 3 in my opinion is just a nightmare and should of been something else. i mean the whole tailing the resistance member is nice and all for gameplay but it's literally 75% of the act and this would of been better off as a long cutscene I mean the game composes hours among hours of them already why not extend it some more. great time saver although i don't think i need to save in a new slot everytime. y'know just do a 2 save slot system alternating between the two as safety slots.
Since this game is a PS3 exclusive and it has an end screen, official speedruns used the results screen for a while, there’s no hardware advantage of ps3’s really, real time is for PC’s vs console and pro consoles

Game's timer will count only the second time, when you just run. (tailing is slower than running)

Does using the stealth camo while doing this count in the end? It seems like it would, but then again it seems like time should be counted as well. So can I use the stealth while doing this?

Has this been patched in the 2.00 version? This is the most boring part of the game IMO and I'm not interested in tailing the guy around for half an hour because my playtime as of yet is 2 hours and 47 minutes and I need to be fast to complete the game in under 5 hours.

nop,and at least that MosaicJ improve a lot and actually is one of the best players on youtube,he do the runs fresh start with no special items or masks.

The guards are looking for snake and only snake because of his face so when you put on a mask they won't notice you
BUT if you are running with a weapon, rolling, crouching or doing those actions then the guards will notice you
Based on what? Considering this player beat him by a whole 5 minutes.
Be easier to follow if you didn't speed the video up, really difficult to understand. Specifically the point you marked with O and said to go that route instead of the X path the resistance took. Can't follow your movements because you speed the video up so fast, no idea where you went. Anyway, long story short. Couldn't follow it, thanks for the video but couldn't understand it because all the important bits you sped up.

wow... i have no idea then... it must just be some type of glitch... try doing it with a new save... like start the game from scratch... its gay but i think thats the only thing to do if you really want them... but they're not that great i never use them
