great video thanks, and for the purpose of showing everyone what you are doing it makes a lot of sense to remove the tire so we can see whats happening.
Thank you for the video. I was wondering if that trough could be removed to allow access to the oil filter from below, My truck doesn't have the rock guard.
Remove your wheel.. that's nuts. I can't believe he doesn't mention the entire time to torque the drain plug on. Hand tight till ya get a leak I guess?
Thanks for the great video, easy to understand. Appreciate you mentioning the socket size for the skid pan bolts and lug nut torque specs, makes it easier to just go under the truck with the right tools the first time.
Thank you much for this. About to do the first change on our new Ranger and had pretty much come to the conclusion that removing the wheel was necessary, good to see that I wasn't going crazy after all. I'll try turning the wheel, but not sure if my arms are long enough to reach through.
Scott Spicka - I too own a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT. I've changed the oil every 5,000 miles and rotated the tires every 7,000 miles. There is no need to remove the left front tire. Just turn the steering wheel all the way to the right which gives plenty of room to work.
Little advice since I drive a new ranger. Don't take off the tire trust me. It's just as easy to just reach over the tire. You only need to take off the top 3 screws because that cover is just flimsy rubber so you can bend it down without harm. But don't over tighten the screws like the last mechanic did on mine. Because when taking them back off it's too tough. I had to cut my cover off because the screws stripped when I went to take them off
When I worked as a Ford tech, the 10 minute issue has never been brought to my attention nor to any other tech’s attention to my knowledge. I have read that the overseas Rangers with the diesel engine has this issue, but our 2.3 liter I believe does not apply. Either way, the oil drains out before 10 minutes anyway. I do believe there is no danger with this engine and I have not witnessed or heard of any issues during these Ranger’s oil changes.
How much of a quart of oil is the .2 of the 6.2 quarts??? Is there a measurement on the side of the oil bottle that shows this .2 ??? Wish I had seen you pull the dipstick after running it and letting it drain for awhile so I could see where the oil level is on the stick.. Perhaps then, I can know how much oil is 6.2 quarts... Thanks for your great video !
Here's an easy way to figure out partial quarts. A quart is 32 ounces, so .1 (10%) of a quart is equal to 3.2 ounces. That means .2 (20%) of a quart is twice that much and would be 6.4 ounces. There are usually marks every 4 ounces on the quart bottle of oil, so 6.4 ounces would essentially be half way between the 4 and 8 ounce marks on the bottle. If you buy your oil in the 5 quart jugs (which I usually do), just save any 1 quart oil bottle you have, clean it, and then mark a line half way between the 4 and 8 ounce marks and fill to that level from the larger jug. Hope this helps.
@@jamiehickman6556 - I know it's been a few months, but wanted to thank you for helping me figure out that .2 of the oil change refill... I did it and ended up putting in the same amount of oil I took out of it. It was filled to just below the highest hole on the side of the dipstick you use for measuring, from the factory.. I added 6 quarts, really slowly, etc., and ended up adding more than 1/2 quart more to get the oil level on the dipstick to the level it came with from the factory... This is not new either... On my '09 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi V8, it also took a lot more oil than just the ounce nbr., when measured by the dipstick...
@@LstFknSoul - I have never seen an instance when you needed a tool to tighten up a new, gasket lubed, oil filter...Most oil filters say on the box - "Tighten 1/2 a turn after gasket contacts the engine", something like that... Just tighten it up by hand and then a little more tight...If you use a tool, it will be easier, and you may tighten it up too much. This may not be bad, but will be fun when you have to remove that really tight filter next time... I just use my hand to tighten and in 60 years, have never had an oil filter leak..
Geez, I would go a full year on a full synthetic oil change just due to the hassle(removing wheel and covers/shields). I only put about 6K miles a year on my vehicle. I wonder what my local dealer will charge for a standard oil change, $75? I'm used to paying only around $40.
Local dealer here cost me about $500-700 for the oil change. Original oil change was below $100 if I recall. It's just the POS mechanic decided that one wheel needed to be put out of alignment. Few hundred for the alignment(another shop) and a few hundred for the tires I had to replace.
