Great question! I just use a supermarket own brand powder. It's best to use powder because liquid can sometimes coat the nappy fibres. Also most nappy brands will insist on using non-bio detergent or the warranty will be voided. This is because some bio detergents contain an enzyme called cellulase which can break down natural fibres over time. I find I get a better clean with bio powder so I look for one without cellulase (most of them don't have it) but bear in mind that if you do the same you might invalidate any nappy warranties!
I am interested in starting to use cloth diapers and am in the research stage. I joined a cloth diaper group on Facebook and they say if your water is past a certain hardness then you need to use a softener, but I don’t like the ingredients in the softeners they recommend and would like to avoid using these. You say you don’t use softener, Have you had problems with mineral build up?? I just feel like the people in the Facebook groups make the washing way too hard and scientific, but I want to make sure I’m doing it right without going crazy trying to figure it out 😂
This video is so helpful, thank you!! I just wondered what detergent you use, please?
