- On a recent camping trip, I decided to give a tour of my 2008 Ford Escape while I was actually using it in camping mode. I've listed below links to some of the gear that I talk about.

I love your colors. You did a good job of setting up your vehicle. The keychain labels are a great idea.
Thank you!
They can smell the food no matter what. But seeing boxes tells them there is something worth checking out. You also should cover your wood boxes, since a box is a box. Don’t let your windows stay open even a tiny crack, because their claws are skilled enough to open a clamshell, and they are strong enough to break your windows.
Thank you for your insight.
Nice setup. Please know that covering your food will NOT deter bears dear. They are attracted to the smell of it, not by seeing it. Bears are also attracted to other smells like toiletries as well. So keep your doors locked, so you at least get a heads up that one (or a person of course) is trying to get into your vehicle. It WILL get into your vehicle. So be ready to use bear spray or majorly scare it away. And if you can't scare a bear away, you will need to use more drastic measures. Have fun, and stay safe! :)
Oh, of course! And thank you for adding that to the comments. I should have added that to the video. I keep wasp spray in my vehicle just in case.
@@detouringwithdonna Sorry, but wasp spray is poisonous and illegal to use (in most places anyway). Bear and pepper sprays are deterrents, whereas wasp spray is very dangerous to its receivers. Please keep bear spray instead :)
Yes, i agree - coolers for food & toiletry storage would be best, i think 🤔
😅
Love the purple and blue colors in your van and definitely the lotus on your cabinets very relaxing
Thanks so much!
I have an older Escape as well that I camp in. I was glad to see this setup for more ideas. If I cannot find a van before retirement in a couple years, the Escape will be my "getaway" vehicle!
I love my Escape and am happy when other Escape owners share their rigs and experiences camping in their vehicle. Can't beat the gas mileage versus a van!
Wow. I'm so impressed! Thank you for posting.
I'm glad you liked it!
Love your set up. And all the purple. Hope my Escape turns out as good as yours.
Thank you! Purple is my fav color!
Loved the video and love your set up. Happy Camping 😊
Thank you!
Omgosh I love the colors n set up!
Thank you!
I love your suv convesion
Thank you!
Your rig looks very nice and comfortable .
Thank you!
Nicely done!
Thanks!
Hermoso como configuraste tu van y amo el morado ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Gracias!
So are you full time in this? I mean it looks like you got some stuff that sprawls out a little bit, but I didn't know if you were self-contained and just that unit? Cuz my 08 Sorento is almost exactly like yours and I'm thinking about going out self-contained.
I mean also a really good video, one of the best I've seen on these things.
I actually have different camping gear for different types of camping. When I am going into my local mountains in the summer and am staying for 10 days or so,I bring my easy up canopy. Typically, I don't use it. I am now fully contained in my Escape. My outside set-up when I do winter travel is much smaller.
Nice!!!
Thank you!
❤❤❤beautiful
Thank you! 😊
The roof does look great but tell me how you attached it to the roof . I was wondering how to brighten up the drab interior of van . Why they make all interiors battleship gray , brown-gray ( I call it cave gray ) or black I’ll never know . Enjoy your videos , bless you may GOD keep you safe
Thank you so much for watching my channel. The cloth on the ceiling is a sarong, very light weight. I lined the ceiling with Reflectix type insulation using T pins, then I attached the sarong to that with T pins and upholstery I pins. It takes a lot of pins, so buy a large quantity if you decide to use this technique.
SUV pump, hopefully it’s a USB pump ! Had a Chuckle when you said that.
I don't use an video editor so I was like oh well, it has to stay!
Nice build, check out The Skeeter Breyer for keeping bugs out.
Thanks. I'll look into it.
Nice
Thanks
Could you share more info about your "garage" area. It seems handier than a rooftop carrier.
Hi Clara, and yes, it is easier to access than a rooftop carrier. I used the container in the link below, drilled holes in the bottom of it along with a small piece of wood inside, to protect the bolts from being pulled through the plastic. I ran long "U" bolts through the bottom of the rack, up through the container and the wood, securing the nuts inside of the container.

@@detouringwithdonna Thank you, Donna. Could you share info about the rack.
@Clara Smith I use my mobility scooter rack, but any cargo rack that suits your needs will work.
What are the dimensions of your mattress?
68 inches long by 28 inches wide by 7 inches tall. All memory foam.
I saw a video where a man used an real large maybe t-shirt to cover door window.
That's an interesting way to cover the window!
