I’m doing mine part 61. There are always flight instructors around. For those of you looking to become pilots as a career. You can definitely find can find flight schools roughly around: Private pilot - 6-10k Instrument -5.5k Commercial - 8-20k (lower end if splitting time, higher if solo time) Multi engine 5k Do this right and you can get cost down to around 30-35k. Much cheaper than 70k like some other flight schools. Do your research but also make sure you find the right fit for training and how you learn.
Great videos guys, love the humor! I wanted to fly my entire life, but grew up with a severe stutter. At 46 (this year), began flight training and you do learn that ATC is your friend - Stutter or not. Nothing should stop you. Checkride will be in Sept.

I think the only thing I worry about is situational awareness. I took at Discovery flight several years ago and became concerned when at the end I couldn't seem to find the airfield amongst the several buildings, etc. on the ground, even though the instructor kept telling me where it was. All that, and it was a clear day! Now I believe with training this can be mollified, but it did give me a nervous moment of pause. The other was something you mentioned about ATC. Their speech is very rapidly delivered and spiced with lots of unfamiliar terms. Again, I think with work this can be dealt with. But it is a cause for concern.
Your videos helped inspire me to start my flight training, currently 14 hours into private pilot training in Illinois. I sure wish I lived closer to US Sport Flight Academy, though, as I would definitely be training with you!
Wow! I seriously thought I was the only person that had some of those issues. You named literally every single thing that has prevented me from doing it since I had my discovery flight in 1988. Thanks for sharing the information. I’m definitely going to start looking seriously for a place to learn. 👍😀
I’m currently 13 years old, and I’m really glad to see videos like this. My dream is to one day fly for a big airline like Delta or American. I went through ground school at the Hickam Aero Club around 1990. I passed the FAA written exam and had 9 hours of flying with instructor. I really enjoyed it but couldn't get past the communication obstacle.
I love how they make it sound like if you want to get a pilots license you can with out any problem. I wanted to get my license and after returning to the US from Duty in Vietnam, and being turned down for WO school, I joined the Army flying Club...Just as I was about to get my license I was sent to another base (one without a flying club) Over 20 years later I decided I was going to finish.....Had to start from scratch. 9/11 happened and my flying was on hold again. 3 months later and several retraining flights and I was back flying...6 more months and I took the written and passed it and began preparing for my Oral (check ride) as the oral reached 7hrs..I messed up the landing...the examiner said My instructor could take me up an "rake me over the coals and I could try the landing again...by I was tired and opted to try another day. 6 month of snow and Ice I went back but had to get signed off by the instructor to take the test. The meant some more solo time. I was flying gliders, and on my second solo flight the tow pilot crashed and died. The airport blamed me..but the FAA said i did nothing wrong but because I am honest Flight schools don't want me. I was a member of the AOPA, tried to get them to help me get a flight school....the didn't even send me a response to my letter, but they did want me to stay a member and give them money for my membership. And SSA was no help either. For you veterans don't go running to a flight school with the idea you can get your pilots license and the VA will pay for it. You have to first get your Private License and Instrument rating, the pass a second or 1st class physical...then they will pay if you have entitlements left.
@@theoriginaljackal8196 Really? I keep hearing the same thing about having to get your private license first. May I ask what school you're going to and where? And will the G.I. bill also pay for my college after that too or is it just one or the other?
I love flying so much and want to be a pilot, but I always felt nervous about turbulence, so I thought I could never be a pilot. I didn't know new pilots would feel that way. Now I think I should give it a shot :]
That's amazing, Coleman! Congrats on starting your journey to make your aviation dreams a reality! We're sure you're going to do great and overcome your fears!!!
My dad taught me to fly when I was thirteen, passing a pilots licence was a piece of cake. I fly my dad's c182 hand me down. He's now teaching me to fly a dual power plant beech super king. Which is his favorite aircraft. Theres a lot more to learn on a twin, but unbenounced to him, I could fly it. It's a hell of a lot faster than a c182.... it's like you have to stay that much more ahead of the aircraft. But it's a blast ! My father flew the f-4 phantom in the military but never wanted to talk about it. He became a test pilot when I was born so he was always leaving really early in the morning and I didn't see him until late at night. Most of this was a blur, but he would tell me about aircraft engagements where he made an underwear stain out of the enemy. He gave me an undercarriage wheel display from a f-4 phantom that spins around kinda weird for a display. At any rate, I had a real military living experience. Now he's a retired business owner flying his beech.
Excellent information, addresses my concerns. I flew gliders and actually did worry about the wings coming off the old bucket. Too bad you couldn't find good looking people to present in the video.........that's sarcasm if you didn't catch it.
I appreciate this video SO much! All of the topics hit me and some more than others. I found it really encouraging as opposed to other informational videos I've watched to gain more knowlegde about aviation as a career. A professional comercial airline pilot has been eye candy for me for a while now and I'm figuring out how to get there. Thank you, both of you, for taking the time to create this video. I'm sure there was a lot of takes, retakes and edits to get it just right. By the way, I saw you gigglin girl hahaA! XOXO, Nadia
Just wanted to add my thoughts as well. I have had my "Private" from August, of 1978, and from Addison Airport in beautiful Dallas, Texas. I was 33 years old, and passed my check ride after 3 month, and 42 total hours. If you feel like you are a natural, you will not need the 55-65 hours to finish your Private. I had a woman instructor named Celia, who flew corporate jets out of Beechcraft, at Addison A/P. From then till now, my love of flying had quadrupled. I have owned 2 aircraft, a Beech Musketeer, with a flying stab, and my favorite, a Grumman Yankee. I would not trade my flying past for anything in the world. These two young people, Jacquelyn & Nathan are right. If you love the thought of flying, do it. You will never regret it. Those $100 hamburger flights simply cannot be beat. I don't have an airplane today, but still think about buying another one. My medical is current, and my hours total just under 1000 hours in all those 40 years +. Flying and owning my own plane has been some of my greatest experiences in my life. If you are young, stay in school and get that education so you can buy the toys you will want in the future. My career was medicine, and I retired in 2013. Flying & owning isn't cheap, but it is far greater than any car, boat or ultralight airplane. If you wish to learn any more specifics, about aviation, respond to this video. I'm in Florida, but the internet goes everywhere, so respond. If you are looking to buy, go to "Barnstormers.com". You won't be sorry. I bought both of my planes through Barnstormers, and love browsing the ads. I shy away from anything Rotax. The reason being that the owner of Rotax died, flying using a Rotax engine. Go Lycoming or Continental. The cost is greater but you always get what you pay for. Also rentals for learning, try to find a Cessna 150, or 152. Older & less expensive. I never liked the 172! Last thought, Imaging flying to Oshkosh for the annual aviation event in August of every year. I flew there twice, and what adventures they were. I have so many memories of flying, I simply cannot think of even one event that happened. Correction, I remember one time, over the Boca Raton, Fl. A/P, taking a friend for his first small 2 seater airplane ride, the engine quit at 2500' above the A/P. It was fuel starvation, so I immediately switched the fuel selector valve to the fullest tank, hit the boost pump, and the little Lycoming engine regained power. The prop, of course, never stopped turning, it just had no power. It immediately started right up, and we resumed our flight to the coast and back. When in doubt, check things out, but if you are unsure if it's for you, I say to take an introductory flight, and then decide. You will NOT Regret it! Let me hear any comments or questions. Just love to help, as I did for 30 years, helping my patients.
If you don’t live near a flight school, call one in a nearby city and see if the instructor can fly to your local airfield and pick you up for lessons. Might cost a little more, but maybe it’s worth it instead of driving to that city or just not flying at all.
I am interested in finding more information of acquiring Flight Training through the VA benefits. Where I can find more information regarding this subject?
Anxiety was the major factor in my decision to quit flight training. After 13 hours, my CFI was pushing me to do my solo flight. I continued to train another 20 hours with no relief of my dreaded solo flight. I had 50+ touch and goes, but never felt I was even remotely close to performing a simple landing. They all felt sloppy, off centered or just plain bad. My CFI disagreed. He thought they were good solid landings. I struggled with ATC and just felt overwhelmed. I got to the point I felt I was experiencing "brain task saturation". I struggled with constant thoughts of doing something wrong, I was going to forget even the simplest of things. I wish I could have overcome these issues but to no avail.
I have a simple question. I have 3 current flight hours training. I have passed my ground school. I have my medical cert. I wanted to know how long before a CFI sends for my student flight card? I am currently in the process of moving to another state (MT from WA) so I am going to continue my flight training there. But I wanted to know because I noticed some students from other flight training programs from tech schools etc.,have received their student cards and have never stepped into a plane?
I tried flight training in Des Moines for 6 months (2-3 times / week). Most of it was "take off and landing" practice. I never learned to land properly. When winter came, I stopped. Ran out of money I alloted for this. Landing seemed impossible to get right!
For me it's all about money. I can slate the time, I know Im smart enough, and Im confident with training I would have the skill. But money as always is preventing me. I'll be 49 years old in December. If I dont figure it out soon it really will be too late.

Al Mcallister That's not true, it depends on the school. The post 9/11 GI bill is paying for 100% of my professional pilot program.
@@theoriginaljackal8196 Really? I keep hearing the same thing about having to get your private license first. May I ask what school you're going to and where? And will the G.I. bill also pay for my college after that too or is it just one or the other?
sorry but lol you have had the most unfortunate life ever
im very sorry
I really want to be a pilot
Go for it M P! Don't let your dreams be dreams!
M P Try gliding
Thrust Flight Academy same! But I’m only 11 :P.
The smiling has made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. I now need to take a shower to wash the unknown fear off.
Incredible and very informative video!! Thank you both. :)
Omg u guys smiled enough for a lifetime
Great positive video!!! Very informative!!!lots of smiling .....
You guys inspired me a lot and I want to become pilot
FANTASTIC INFORMATION, MANY THANKS!!!!!!!!
If you are afraid of the wings falling off or aircraft failure, consider aircraft maintenance for a while to build your confidence
Very good video !!! Well made and very professional !!! What a gorgeous young woman, beautiful smile !!!
I love flying so much and want to be a pilot, but I always felt nervous about turbulence, so I thought I could never be a pilot. I didn't know new pilots would feel that way. Now I think I should give it a shot :]
Hi TheTravelProductions! That's great to hear! Everyone gets nervous every once in a while but don't let that stand in your way! Thanks for watching!
I'm here for the comments
me too
Great video! I started the journey towards my PPL about three weeks ago. I have either had or have all of those thoughts or fears.
That's amazing, Coleman! Congrats on starting your journey to make your aviation dreams a reality! We're sure you're going to do great and overcome your fears!!!
don't worry about it, the only thing you need to do is not giving up
I love this!!! I am going to get started in flight school!!!
Very helpful video great job made me feel like going to this school tomorrow
Wow - what a perfect video! You nailed it! Sorry I’m nowhere near Dallas!
Hi, thank you very much. I just started my flight training and this is very encouraging.
Hi RMCN GLOBE! We're glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching, and good luck with your flight training!!
Thanks for this video, aspiring commercial airline pilot here. :)
Excellent information, addresses my concerns. I flew gliders and actually did worry about the wings coming off the old bucket. Too bad you couldn't find good looking people to present in the video.........that's sarcasm if you didn't catch it.
We're glad you enjoyed our video and it was relevant to your experiences! Thanks for letting us know!
Great information. ....thanks
Nathan and your friend thank you much
I appreciate this video SO much!
XOXO,
Nadia
Hi Nadia! We're so glad that you're enjoying our videos and we hope that all your dreams towards becoming an airline pilot come true! You can do it!
hey! where are you now
This is awesome. It makes we want to fly.
Nathan thanks so much it's so incredibly it's encouraging thanks so much.
I can get financial assistance because I'm a combat vet? Seriously?!?!?! You guys may have just changed my life! Thank you.
thank you so much for this video as I am 41 and aplanning to get a private pilot license, I thought its too late to get it
Great video! This was so helpful! I am worried that I am going to spend all this money and not be able to become a pilot.
11: laws
all sorts of requirements and regulations make it impossible to build or fly what I want, when I want, where I want, how I want
Hahahaha no, actually if you own an ultralight you can fly pretty much wherever whenever
Thanks for covering these topics, I'm 25, and taking my introductory flight on Wednesday. FYI... I've never been in an airplane before.
That was awesome, thank you so much....
You were not cut out for it. Nothing wrong with that.
great video it made me smile
is college required to become a pilot or is it just to be competitive?
You guys are the best!!
YOU'RE the best, CaptBrando!!
Landing seemed impossible to get right!
this video inspired me to start flying, do you guys have a video about getting over my fear of heights?
Yeah I can’t find a teacher close enough to where I work maybe someday I’ll try not to lose hope 💪
Never lose hope, your dreams will take off soon!
I like to smile! Smiling's my favorite!
Thank you
For me it's all about money. I can slate the time, I know Im smart enough, and Im confident with training I would have the skill. But money as always is preventing me. I'll be 49 years old in December. If I dont figure it out soon it really will be too late.
Thanks for the vid!
Wow!!!...Formation walking and talking. Run and break with your arms out towards the end would have been cool.
I wish your school was here in new jersey, most of the schools here in nj that i have visited are so full of it
