#Zathura: A Space Adventure directed by Jon Favreau was originally released in 2005. Based on a popular children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, the movie is about two boys who, one boring afternoon, begin to play an old board game found in the basement. Suddenly, the children find themselves - and their house - launched into outer space, suffering attacks from menacing aliens. Stan Winston Studio was contracted to create those aliens, which - due to Favreau’s love of in-camera, old-style filmmaking techniques - would be realized primarily as full-scale puppets and performers in suits.

Zathura is such an underrated film.

Yeah it came out when I was 4 saw it while browsing movies and decided to watch it again, I expected it to be bad but it’s actually pretty cool. The effects are amazing

The thing that I loved about Zathura is that it's like something that came from the 80's!! It's like a film that would've been talked about in the playground when I was a 10 year old kid in 1986!!! It was also good to see scary, realistic villians in a kids movie, the animatronics and performances are so fluid and so much scarier!!! Awesome stuff!!!
They look so realistic... Must be great to make and puppeteer those creatures!

whats amazing was there was such a minimal amount of digital effected needed to bring these guys to life, you guys are one of my favorite production company for a reason

Zathura was my childhood movie. And I just remembered it last night and watched it. I remember why I loved this movie
It’s why I love this movie, though it’s for kids, the cgi and practical effects are astonishing.
This is still my preferred method, the vehicle/robot/monster is there but parts of it are digitally removed or altered so it can do a bit more than it could on its own, cuz it means not only does it have weight, mass and presence, the actors have something to interact with. You still see it used on Star Wars and some Netflix movies, but mostly it’s full CGI now.
These things were super realistic and terrifying to me as a kid! Loved this movie, and I will always have ptsd of seeing these guys 😅

Reminds me the costumes of the goblin knight in Labyrinth (1986). Aside this, Zathura is still a very good movie!
Hahaha, love the idea of having the performer heads protrude from the creature suit. As a kid, I knew it was practical but could NOT figure out how they achieved those proportions. Great vid! And supremely underrated movie.
They look amazing. I hope that they use this method in other movies and other creatures

This movie was a huge part of my childhood and the Zorgons terrified me, didn't knew you guys made the suits! That's awesome!
I'm pretty sure they meant for these guys to act as Dragon type creatures for the movie since they had a Robot in it already. Because, for my perspective, Dragons and Robots are the most favorited beings ever

This is one of the very few times I can condone CGI. It is ubiquitous, in cinema these days...
