The beginnings of big money ruining what was once an affordable motorsport for the average guy. SCCA today is just wankers with bags of money. And silver spoon kids with rich daddy's. Same thing happened to karting. In both, you used to have huge fields of entries in almost every class. Nowadays a lot of classes only have one or two entries. I graduated High School in 73. And that summer worked at a sports car shop owned by one of those silver spooners. He had a Brabham Formula B that we raced. He sucked as a driver. And had a car that should of won many races. The beginning of the end for amateur racing. My favorite Sedan race car of that era, the Datsun 510.
What a boss
Paul Newman's first national championship was won in a privately entered Triumph TR-250 (renamed to TR-6). Datsun/Nissan signed him from there.
awesome clip, saw PLN race at Moroso.
Would have loved to have seen Steve McQueen racing Paul Newman! They were friendly rivals.
PLN you badass.
Love the history that put Datsun on the motorsports map. It's because of these guys that I own and race a 510 to this day.
I regret selling my 2 door
:)
