Wow, Matthew Merkovich, the grand master himself is doing the new series for BorisFX ? Really really exciting! Thank you very much Matthew and thanks a lot BorisFX 🙏🙏🙏
The master has arrived! It's a pleasure to see you, and the opportunity to learn from the master is invaluable. Hopefully, you'll consider creating more videos for advanced artists.
The idea with this series is to build something for beginners, which also has some new techniques for experienced users. Then we add on complexity as the series continues. Matthew is a great artist and trainer.
Please the most requested feature. “Align track to previous key” during supervised tracking. And syntheyes will be the best in the industry. Can’t wait. Please do it for us.
Thanks. Getting the best user experience is a priority for us. Doing so in a way that doesn't alienate current users is also top of mind. Your feedback is important.
ihope at the end of this awesome course to make vid about exporting 3d camera track to other 3d programs like blender and maya in a vertical and horizontal footage
Mathew, I've always enjoyed your teaching, thanks! I also noticed you have a Gibson ES-335 (at least it looks like a 335 or it may be an Epiphone--can't see the headstock) hanging on the wall along with a Fender Telecaster (maybe a Squire? or G&L?) I'm guessing you play them because they've both got guitar straps 🎸🎸🎸. I'm not sure what the acoustic and the other electric on the floor are though? 🤠
The red one is an Epiphone. The acoustic on the floor is a Fender. The Tele is a cheap Squire that I keep around for tinkering, but the blue electric is a Danelectro '59 re-issue which I love playing more than any of the others.
Hi! I had a question, I have a track of a drone flying over a river with some nice depth from trees and mountains. The track seems to do well, however around 300 frames in (out of 700 frames) the camera track, and all of the trackers, suddenly shift a foot over. When looking at the camera path it shows a sudden sharp angle line and then continues it's tragectory but now misaligned to the scene. How could I resolve this specific area?
I appreciate your tutorials. Can you please talk about importing a png sequence vs mp4, when you have a long project, like an hour. I also found out to go to edit preferences and change the Max RAM Cache. Russ has a video about solving a long video but it is done for a 360 video and needs an update. For reference my RAM is 192GB and loading up a 4k 1 hour video leaves a lot of red on the bottom and solving is long. Thanks.
This is a good topic of conversation. An hour worth of video is always going to be tough to cache into RAM, even with 192GB available. Thanks for the feedback.
Perfect timing! I just bought my new SynthEyes Boris upgrade. I would REALLY like some pointers on a SynthEyes to DaVinci Resolve/Fusion workflow. I want to use SynthEyes for all of my tracking now.
Yeah, we will be covering exporting to different hosts shortly in this series. What sort of projects are you looking to do with Fusion, for example clean up, 3D compositing, camera projection?
It’s a variety of things but mostly clean up and 3D compositing. Camera projection would be amazing to be able to have a workflow for too! I am planing a live-action anime-type video pretty soon (VFX heavy) and I know tracking with Fusion will only get me so far. I also might be looking into using the particle application on Boris FX as well. I usually use Fusion for my particles but again, I know it can only take me so far. So I’m glad I upgraded when I did.
@@BorisFXco Oh and Planar Tracking. I know you have Mocha for that but I am trying to see what I can get done with SynthEyes for now since I have a permanent license.
@callingmeblaze I'm planning on addressing Fusion a bit in the tutorial after the one that I am just wrapping up on, which is coming-soon. And regarding planar tracking in SynthEyes: For plain old planar tracking, I typically refer people to Mocha, but planar tracking in SynthEyes definitely has its uses. I plan on a short video covering that in the near future, as well.
That's great. Welcome to the community. Part 4 of this introduction series will be available by then too! We also have a wealth of other tutorials here : borisfx.com/videos/?tags=product:SynthEyes&search= And join our SynthEyes Discord channel : www.borisfxdiscord.com/
The short answer is to solve with a non-fixed lend length and animated lens distortion. The longer, better answer is found in the manual. There are whole sections dedicated to lens breathing, with special attention paid to anamorphic lenses in the Anamorphic Shots Guide pdf. If you do a search for "breathing" or "Strategies for Animated Parameters" in the main user guide, you'll hit the right sections for the Lens and 3D Solver rooms.
It's currently part of the Boris FX Suite, and has exporters for certain Continuum filters like Particle Illusion and .motn exports for a Motion camera. Are there any particular effects or types of shots you would like to do?
Hey there, sorry to bother you, but do you know where I can set the focal length on this camera? I haven't found any explanations about it. Could you give me a hint? I'd really appreciate your reply.
In the Solver page you can set the camera to have a Known Focal Length and Field of View. Change the selection from the Default "Fixed, Unknown" to "Known" or "Fixed, with Estimate". Usually you are better off letting SynthEyes try to work out the exact Focal Length. Because of the nature of lens manufacture, the length listed on the lens will probably not be exact. Matthew talks about this more in a later chapter. Hope that helps.
Great software! I wish I got more jobs that require tracking because I enjoy the process a lot xD Question: about the lens calculation, you changed from "Classic" to "Std Radial 4th Order", but explained only that is "better" than classic for spherical lenses, which I guess it's the most common type of lens we work with (drones, cellphones, DSLRs), right? So, for most of our jobs, can we just change straight up to this last method? And then, why is it not the default one?
Great comment. Not all established pipelines are ready to take on the latest and greatest improvements, so changing default behaviour is never a decision we take lightly. Maybe we can add this as a preference. And yes, spherical lenses are the most common lenses we're surrounded by. We also have anamorphic lenses, commonly used in cinema, which we have to approach differently, hence the specific anamorphic models.
Hello, When I try to purchase the sapphire plugins it says, " Your card was declined for making repeated attempts too frequently or exceeding its amount limit." even though I have over the limit of the price on my bank. I would love to purchase your plugins but I need your help.
In the words of a cg sup friend at a huge multi-national VFX company, “In order to make SynthEyes as good as 3D Equalizer, you’d have to cripple SynthEyes!” 😂 And as far as Keentools goes, my company has been hired numerous times to track jobs where Keentools just failed. It’s a very niche tracking tool with limited applications, where SynthEyes is capable of handling anything.
The current version of SynthEyes supports .exr files. Just select the __first__ image in your sequence and SynthEyes will take a little while to index the rest.
Hopefully that's what this series is going to help with. If you're just doing regular solves, you'll be in and out with minimal effort. Making the GUI more friendly for newcomers is high on our wish list. To dive down deep into the features, there will be a learning curve, like with every bit of software.
there are so much convoluted terms... Just call it Auto track why call it summery? never encounter this in any tracking software... like why? you want to look sophisticated?
It's just a term we inherited. It does do Auto tracking, but that page does more than that too. I'm not saying I disagree with you that it is a bit odd, but I can guarantee it wasn't to look sophisticated 🙂🙂🙂
Just saw your comment, which I found hilarious. I actually put that dictionary definition in there to somewhat jokingly justify the naming. It is awkward. I would count on the labelling of things, and the documentation itself, to become more simplified. For the time being, SynthEyes might have some awkward naming, but there isn't a shot it cannot track. 😉

Finally a Syntheyes tracking tutorial 😀
Glad you liked it! It's going to be a powerful series.
Yasssss! Been waiting for this one... and it didnt disappoint!! And Matt Merkovich is a legend!
Agreed on all points.
Wow 🎉. That was really insightful. Especially the small and big feature track thing at the blips advanced panel. Can’t wait to see the next.
There's so many great features shown in this one video. I'm learning new things each time I rewatch it.

Great teacher thank you for this series of tutorial waiting for next ones
We agree, Matthew is fantastic.
I learned a lot in this chapter, and waiting as well to the next one
Coming soon :D
Matthew the best
Matt! I've still got a copy of your book on my shelf! Great video and nice Danelectro too!
My book? What book? 🤔 But I do love that guitar!
@MatthewMerkovich I must be mixing up my Matt the trackers! I might be copping a Mandela effect glitch innthe simulation! Nice Dano though!
@@robertdouble559 HAHAHA!!! Anytime I achieve any kind of Mandela effect, I call that a win!
👍👍👍This is awesome, I'm still using the classic panel for the distortion solving lenses, after that I can try the new module.
The new models are really good!
This Man is a true legend.
Absolutely confirmed.
this is what we need becuse all the other videos are so old and difficult to finish
Great tutorial! Looking forward to the next ones!! (Please modernize the user interface sometime in the near future?!)

Should I manually delete trackers on moving subjects in the video?
If you are solving the scene then yes. Or preferably mask them out with garbage mask __prior__ to tracking and solving.
