  • I replaced my alternator on my 2002 audi a6. While I had the front end torn off, I decided to replace my seized A/C compressor, my squealing power steering pump, valve seal on my driver side cylinders (numbers 4,5, and 6) and discovered two vacuum lines that needed replacing. I also inspected my timing belt. I assembled my car back together, up to the radiator. Test fired it, and no start. i check for spark. I checked my fuel pump. I rechecked all my wire harnesses. Check my mass air flow sensor connection. Checked all my ignition/spark connections, including the wire harnesses on my air intake. Still won't start. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks John! You nailed it right on the head! It started right up! Don't know how I messed that one up, since I have taken the air intake apart a few times before and have removed the exact same harnesses...

I could hear the ignition timing was off as soon as you turned it over. I see the problem has been fixed. Lol. Good deal. It's easy to swap wires around, been there.

ICM wires, colored go on the same icm module. move the wires and you should be ok.

yup I just confirmed it, I switch the wires so the brown goes to brown and the black goes to black right on the air box, runs like a demon now

im having the same starting issue. this is recently after a misfire. im not sure if something got wet or what the case is but on top of the random misfires epc, abs, esc lights thrown. cleared codes n ran a bit but eventually came back on. had it running while parked a while and eventually when i drove down the road and parked and turned off..will no longer start but cranks same way. first audi. 2001 2.7t quattro. ideas?

timing was off, but not because of the belt. I had the ignition control module wires reversed, so when the right was firing, it should have been the left.

Awesome post!! Happy to know that your problem was resolved...I just got myself an A6...batter does not charge, the car starts up fine with a booster pack or jumper cables and shuts off as soon as they are disconnected. Im guessing alternator or maybe it is much simpler as a bad battery?

I am trying to get this 2000 a6 Quattro started. It ran before I took out the engine. I do not understand what wires you had wrong but the ones that go to the ignition could can't be crossed and those harnesses can't be crossed. I am desperate. I need help. I been working on this thing for an extremely long time.

If its a interference motor the valves are screwed because thats a timing issue
