Is the mute on the VI just the standard Jaguar mute that they still sell, or a custom piece? If it is just the Jag mute, was any modification needed to allow it to fit the wider VI bridge? Thanks!

It is a standard AVRI fender Jaguar mute yes. In order to get it to work you must first drill the 3 holes required for the mute to install. 2 pilot holes for the screws and a 1/2” drill bit with a flag on it so you don’t go through the body, this is for the plunger apparatus. After you drill the main hole and install the mute, you MUST install a neck pocket shim in order to get it to work. The bride has to sit high enough off the body so that the mute doesn’t interfere with the bride when actuated. I put a .5 degree shim in the neck and it works perfectly. The measurement for the way my bride is setup is about 5/16 of an inch from the top of the pickguard to the bottom of the bridge or 7/16 of an inch from top of body to bottom of bridge since the guard is 1/8” thick. The neck shim will slightly angle the neck back but this is also a plus for adjusting your intonation. I found that I needed the shim anyways to get the strings closer to the frets. I highly recommend adding the .5 degree shim. This also allows for better adjustment at the bridge end overall anyways. I backed the 2 screws on the mute up one whole turn after tightening them all the way. The mute itself will also require 2 Fender mute blocks stacked on top of each other. The height is perfect for this too. After putting the strings on and off a few times and adjusting the bridge up and down along with the mute, you should be able to get it to work perfectly without it squeaking. Any other questions let me know!

Hi, where did you get your pickguard for the vintera ii bass vi?

I found a seller on eBay that was selling generic fender bass vi pickguards. I made sure to pay attention to the hole layouts based on the photos in the ad. I just went with the purchase and hoped it would fit and it actually fit perfectly. I believe I searched specifically for fender custom shop bass vi pickguard plates and this one was also listed as such. Only cost about $20 total shipped so just keep an eye out and make sure the hole layouts look similar enough

It’s a buzz stop/roller for the tremolo. I ended up taking it off last string change because it’s really not needed if you’ve got a proper setup, but if you don’t like overtones it keeps everything quiet past that point on the bridge. So it’s got plusses and minuses, just depends on your intention with the instrument. Thank you for watching!
