A couple of years after I got my 2007 MINI Cooper S I went on a business trip to Denmark and on the way back to the states I stopped in England for a few days for the sole purpose of an Oxford plant tour. Definitely a highlight of the trip. It was just me and a couple from Germany so the tour guide was able to show us a little more and take us a little closer to the action. Very cool fellow and enjoyed every minute of seeing how our MINIs are made.
Glad you stopped at Oxford plant tour. The times i have been i see something different everytime. Definitely worth a visit for a MINI owner or non car people as it gives you so much insight.
I have a 2023 Nanuk White with Black roof and mirrors hardtop S. I am 73 and hopefully if something doesn’t happen to it I will keep it for the rest of my life.
Fascinating to watch. My 2023 Clubman is in the paint booth as of today. Nice to see all of the TLC that the staff give when assembling these vehicles.
I’m more of a sports car type of person but I respect the mini for a lot of reasons, even thou it’s cheap it kind of looks exotic and luxurious in a way, and it’s logo🤌. And not to mention it’s reliablity and comfort inside, and not to mention how quiet it is inside, ohhh the quietness.
Real cool video, my son enjoyed it also. Production just begun for my 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman all4, enjoyed my 2020. Going from grey & black to red w/ black top & stripes.
Until six minutes in, I was saddened that there were no humans involved. It's both amazing and frightening to see so many robots taking jobs away from people. Regardless, it was a wonderful look into how our beloved Mini is built. Cheers.
A lot of the process is now machined done to avoid margins of error and make it quicker. Only high-end cars have more human build process. Glad you enjoyed the video
To have robot automation in plants, they definitely have more skilled workers for all the monitoring, changes and maintainence. The automation gives new job opportunity as robot services, schedule maintainence, Network control, and lots of new sort more high skill workers. Thats good for the country.
When I first started at plant Oxford in Body in white I was on the finish line. I believe there were around 75 people. Co2 welding, panel setting, gas welding, hanging tailgates and the other outer surface panels across 3 finish tracks . There are now 6 people on one track. It's really hard to see people get moved to other areas or building when you've worked together for a while but it's also really interesting to see how robots have made the jobs much more precise with less and less mistakes.
Fascinating tour - thank you! Got any footage of the SE electric part of the build process? I understand they are built alongside the gas versions? We’re about a month into owning one and are just loving it.
Yes they are made alongside the existing combustion MINI. Glad your enjoying the EV life. Here is link to how the Electric MINI is made ruclips.net/video/BQZh_WmXKBw/видео.html

The robots were doing a great job, the humans not so much, they looked uninterested in what they were doing. Why are they all wearing different clothing, does Mini not provide them with official work clothing? It looks very unprofessional, and you don't hear music blasting out in a German or Japanese car factory, it's very distracting. The guy checking the panel gaps by eye was a highlight though.
I've worked at Plant Oxford since 2002 and we do have uniforms now. The orange at the point of the video was for the Lead Associate who runs the areas (my role) the few people you saw feeling the body over are actually like that in person lol Our uniforms all have our names on so even strangers can feel at home as they already know our names before we've opened our mouths

I worked the assembly line at GM building Cadillacs in the early 70s. It was a very hot and sweaty way to work. Nothing like these workers.

It’s always a great experience doing the factory tour and seeing them made
My 2022 2 Door Hardtop S was built here. ❤ It is now happily living in New York. Beautiful factory.
Glad your enjoying your MINI
The girl at 10:32 reminded me of Lisbeth Salander.
This is all kinds of AWESOME “
It's every better in person when you go on a factory tour
Can’t wait for my first Mini Cooper!!!

Never noticed that
Yeah mate
I heard three or four different songs

There are plenty of people that work in paint and assembly.
Most of the robots are in BIW

Well it makes you wonder in the future if no humans are required to make anything whose going to have the money to buy there products

Very nice! I am on my second mini and love it! Just got this second one like 3 months ago.
What was your 1st mini and what you upgraded to?
Man, I wish I could work here.
Nothing stopping you for applying
Liquid yellow paint the best ever for mini
Its a great colour
How come you can't take a dash out as fast as they install them???? One of those great mysteries.
@@jamesbaldwin2696 All bolts are hidden and we can't bend that way to get to them 🤣😴
At which step in the process do they remove the quality and reliability?
😂😂

@@Jcwadventures thanks - just found it! 👍
You did not show the secret classified how to put the engine in that thing....
Sadly no footage of that at the amount. If I get some I will post it as I have been on the factory tour about 8 times now
@@Jcwadventures Roger that sir.
Hey there. Is this all new footage from the last couple of months? My mini might be in that!
The video is about two years old now so it was shot in 2019. Congrats on your new MINI. Whats the spec?

Just after watching a documentary about Henry Ford, I'd say he would get a kick out of watching this video.
He definite would
Curious how many chemical dips the body goes through for rust prevention...
I think it's 3 to 4 dips of different chemicals then you got paint on top
Hand made by Roberts
Everything we do not there some kind of machine

I like the consistency of how robots put the Minis together, but I don't like that it takes jobs from people.
As automated as they are, they are still built and maintained by humans, which was a job that didn't exist before.
Robots are there to make workers like easier without any major stress on them
all this technology & they can’t build Mini’s with the correct door alignment 👀🤦♂️🤣
The amount I have seen for warranty claims is HUGEEEE

I don't think this was filmed on the same point of timeframe. Official clothing is provided but I think this varies role to role

Bye bye production workers
Who knows as this has always been the case with every manufacturing process
I’d still have my classic mini over a glorified bmw mini 🤮 any day
Each to their own
No Black Workers. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Really??? First part of the video is all robots then people work on the MINIs - 9:22 onwards
Your point being?????
They were too busy peacefully protesting that day
