I have never crochet any kind of doll or toys but watching your doll videos kind of got me wanting to give it a try because I know my little one would love them
I have always wrapped yarn around knitting needles or metal skewers. I prefer a tighter curl, so the smaller needles work just perfect. I have also wrapped twine and jute using same technique. I enjoyed your video, your doll is adorable.
Here's a tip you and the viewers may find helpful for baking the hair. I crochet and knit but I also love working with polymer clay. This clay is cured by baking in the oven. There are different degrees for different clays but most commonly it is baked at 275 degrees. Sometimes clay will burn so what is common to do for this problem is take a piece of quilt batting and lay it in a cookie sheet and lay the items on top of the batting. It does not burn and is completely safe. Since you bake the yarn at 250 degrees, it would be safe as well. So if you can't cut your dowels or make a fancy thing a majig, the batting on a cookie sheet would be another way of baking the yarn. Hope this helps!
I too saw your doll on Bag o Day channel. I make dolls too and this by far has been the best video on how to do hair, the area I struggle the most with. Can't wait to try this method and see all your videos. Thanks!
Looking forward to getting your pattern for this adorable doll.... I am thrilled with all the detailed work you have put into this item... I am what's called a "finishing expert"..LOL Spent my youth and early years working in a yarn shop finishing knitted and crochet sweaters for our customers...
Isn't it wonderful having a resourceful husband!? Sounds like mine ..he is always coming up with nifty contraptions. lol Thank you so much for sharing how to curl yarn !
Have you tried putting starch in your water before soaking the yarn? I think that would help in the curls to prevent dust gathering for the dolls hair. Starch leaves a coating that can be slightly waterproof but when used on clothes it is for making the fabric stay ironed longer as well as last longer. I used to work at a dry cleaners ironing starched shirts. They explained to me why starching is such a good idea. You heavy starch the first time then light starch for a few times then a heavy one again and the fabric looked as good as new every time. Some of the shirts were many years old but still looked as new. Anyway it is an idea you might try. Have a wonderful day
I just discovered you, and I'm so glad I did! Thank you for such a informative video on doing the hair on dolls. Your doll is beautiful! I am going to have to re-watch the part you said where to put the hook in the wig part of the head...wished it was closer to see...Thank you again!
I'm sorry but, I was so attracted to that little snowgirl, I didn't hear a word you said, lolol. I saved it so I can go back later and watch it. I'm getting the hair ready for the doll and when I can afford, I will get the pattern and assembly to crotchet along with everyone. Hopefully, I can do this.
All your dolls are very beautiful! You are very talented! I crochet but I don’t think I can make such beauties. They are prettier than any doll you can buy at a store💖💝💕
Your dolls are adorable and I would love to learn how to make one step by step. I have followed previously videos on crocheting an amigurumi rabbit so I am ready to upgrade I think to make a doll! Yay! SO excited!
I absolutely love your dolls. I'm actually looking to start making dolls for my granddaughters. Are you going to show any of the beginning steps of how to make the dolls and I'd also love to see how to make the doll wig I get the idea but seeing it would be amazing. I am so grateful I came across your channel I have so many ideas now thank you so much.
Wonderful information thank you. Don't think i will be able to this myself though. I do my short hair the same and save the scraps I cut to stuff into my next doll or toy along with polyfil.
Wow that is also amazing those dolls are adorable and the yarn oh my gosh my juices are running thanks for the giveaways and happy birthday to you and your daughter
What size dowel rod do you use? I tried it and the yarn didn't curl. can it be that I took them out too early? How many rods do you recommend for Lavender or any of your dolls? I'm almost finish.
I started making these dolls for my granddaughters and I was wondering how to do hair the feet and the arms will look at your other tutorials thanks so much
Omg I just watched one of your videos showing how to put the legs and arms on this deal and I told you about the African American child am fostering now she gets to see the doll that you made so beautiful 😊
I love your Dolls! They are so beautiful... Do you sell the pattern for this type your showing, and do sell any of the clothings you make also? Thank you so much for showing how you make the hair because they look amazing!
Thank you, I clicked Like! After you put the hair on the doll, can you brush out the hair to separate into thin strands and will it stay perfectly curled after brushing or combing? I want to try it on a barbie doll.
Fearest Holly ,You have No idea How I love Snowman ...Really hopeing if i win i can restock My yarn A bit Have Been Useing Scapes But My stash Is Depleted...God Bless,Aleta Sneed
Awesome tutorial Holly! Will you be making one for the dolls? I would love to try and make one. Working on Cookie Monster as my first amigurumi sp? Lol thanks a bunch!
Saw your doll on Crystal's, Bag-O-Day channel. Beautiful! Very nice work! Hope you post a video on the making of the dolls and also one of winding the yarn using a drill. Good luck with your channel. I subscribed and will be watching! :)
What yarn do you use for their body and where do you get it? I’ve been looking through several videos and can’t seem to find where you say, if you can let me know, I’d greatly appreciate it. I’m looking for your crochet alongs also, but can’t seem to find those, if you can tell me titles of those videos, that would also be great. Thank you In advance, I love your dolls and can’t wait to make my own. I want to make my nieces some Autumn dolls. Beautiful!
Hi! I have a question for you and maybe you can help. Do you think using the wood rods and instead of putting it in the oven using a steam iron would work? i watched a video by Maryl Bird about steam blocking. Once you use steam it sets it. I haven't tried it but would like too. Let me know your thoughts.
@@TheProperPineapple got it. Thank you so much. I am nearly done with my first doll from your Lavender pattern. My daughter has me styling her doll after the main character in the movie Coraline and the wig cap and hair have been tough. I've nearly got it done though so yay!
OMG! I am soooo excited I found your videos. I have been crocheting for a long time and have always wanted to make a crocheted doll. I love your videos!!! I am so looking forward to making one. It didn't work for me... Did I do something wrong? I don't leave it for 45 minutes because I was afraid of burning the yarn

You make it look so easy. In time I will try making 1, thank you 4 the video on hair.
Is it possible for you to do a tutorial on a yarn wig?
Omg I just watched one of your videos showing how to put the legs and arms on this deal and I told you about the African American child am fostering now she gets to see the doll that you made so beautiful 😊
Glad Caron simply soft is good for that ...because it crochets horribly..very splitty...but it is so soft @ shiny 😊🌷
I have switched to caron simply soft instead of red heart for a lot of my crochet dolls.
I am wondering what size dowel rods you use? Are they 1/4" or 1/2"? I know that would make a difference in how tight the curls are.
Love ur dolls I'm also from bag o day crochet thank u for the entries
I wanted to make a natural doll so I want to use wool, any advice to make a curl out of wool yarn?
Thank you,
Genet
Thank you so much to show us how to do the dolls hair you explain it great 💓😊
You can curl ribbon w/ the same technique . wrap wet ribbon around a metal knitting needle bake

Hi, I know this video is older but I just found it. I found the pattern for the doll on your website. Do you still have the spines soles?
Thanks for sharing. Do the ends ever fray?
Thanks for this awesome video. I am still trying to improve my doll line and this really helped out a lot!
I hope you do a video on how to create your dolls; that would be awesome... :)
Fearest Holly ,You have No idea How I love Snowman ...Really hopeing if i win i can restock My yarn A bit Have Been Useing Scapes But My stash Is Depleted...God Bless,Aleta Sneed
Thank YOU ! Great information.
have you tried a latch hook for attaching hair to cap?
No, I just use my hook but I bet that would work great

What size are the dowels? ( diameter)

Yes I use wooden rods, and I am not sure about the steaming, I think it would work, I just usually use the oven
How do you make the the center thing that holds up the head and neck
My husband makes them, he is a tool and dye guy so he made a mold and shot parts out of it
When you say you put a strand into "every other hoop" is that every other round of hoops or every other hoop in each round?
In every other loop

what was the name of ur yarn again ty.
I tried thia and got lovely curls - BUT all my yarns changed colour? Any ideas why pls?

You can buy them on my website which should be linked under most of my videos
how long does the curl last? Will it come off if washed? is there a way to curl permanently?
It is permanent
I chain a lot then undo the chains then it makes the yarn curly
Wow..thanks for sharing...
Hello Holly this is very helpful 😁 I would of thought the oven would melt acrylic yarn 😏 Erica x
thank you so much! I have been trying to figure this out.
Thanks Holly

1ST time here. Beautiful!! 🙌Excellent tutorial!!🙌. So impressive I subbed right away! TFS🌰XO❤XO🎃XO❤🍁
Thanks!! I really appreciate this!
I luv your videos but might I suggest that maybe you could zoom in on some things like the attaching of the hair. thanks.

you have to follow the directions in the video for it to work. It doesn't matter if you wet the yarn with hot or cold water.
Your dolls are 👍
I wonder why it’s not easier to add hair to the cap before sewing to the head
Love it!! :D
I have been looking for this video. Thank you.
great tutorial, thank you
