Thanks for sharing. I bought a small bag of curly yarn hair at a thrift store, and couldn't find more anywhere, just came on google and your video came across my view. I now think the hair I bought at the thrift store was made the same way. I can hardly wait to try it out.
I love this idea. Thank you for sharing. I have been researching to find the right look I want on an amigurumi unicorn for the mane and tail. I think I just found it with your tutorial. You have a great video and speaking voice. God Bless.
Amazing. I had no idea this was even possible before I found your video! I just wanted to say that I used your technique for a Michael Hutchence (INXS) doll I made on my channel and credited you with a link to this video in the description. Couldn't have made what I wanted to without this great technique, so simply explained. ❤️

Thanks for sharing! Great tutorial. I wanted to curl yarn to use as a beard on my sock gnomes...this will be ideal glued to pieces of felt for the beard. I subscribed too.
I did this with wood dowels...with Red Heart super saver yarn...They stayed in the oven for about 2 hours then I let them cool completely...only parts a each curled. I carefully took them off. I’m not a knitter so I don’t have needles , I bought 1/4” & 7/16” dowels. I soaked them completely then put on parchment paper lined cookie sheets... any other suggestions?
If you don't want to sew the wig cap on, you might need to add elastic to the bottom of the cap (which you can easily do by crocheting over an elastic thread, or a hair band, if it fits your doll)
@@lizfaerie thanks for answer! I really nervous whether I should put wig cap and sew it but your answer really helpful, never thought of using elastic thread :)
I used bulky yarn wrapped around a wooden spoon and left in the oven for 20 minutes after dipping it into boiling water, but the curls came out loose and the yarn is already straightened by now
You might need to leave them in longer or try a warmer temperature, or try just drying them outside the oven overnight. Another thing you could possibly try is using something metal to set them instead of wood, like a knitting needle or a hook, so that it gets hotter and aids setting them from the inside. But obviously be careful touching the hot metal. If none of that works you might want to try heat setting with something like a straightener on a low temperature. I'm working on a tutorial for that currently. I suspect the problem might be because you're using bulky yarn, so if all else fails you might need something with thinner individual strands.
Yeah I wouldn't machine wash a doll. If you need to machine wash a doll, I'd say you should just crochet the hair instead, like I did in this tutorial ruclips.net/video/K1KhYRQKI3A/видео.html but I would just hand wash. And of course, you can always re-curl the hair if you need to wash the hair specifically
as far as I know this technique should work with a cotton yarn, as long as you can pull apart the individual strands. I haven't tried it with cotton though, so not entirely sure. It does seem to be easier to pull apart a softer yarn though.
Sure, if you want. The wig cap is just if you don't want the scalp color to peak through. Otherwise you might have to add a LOT of hair to get full coverage, which might end up being too much volume in the hair, depending on your project. Either way will work fine
That probably means your oven was too hot or you left it in just a bit too long, this is easy to do and I've definitely done it myself. Some yarns are more vulnerable to this than others, though. If you have the time to wait, you could let the curls set by drying them overnight, instead of using the oven, to prevent this from happening completely.
Great tutorial. I love that you used such unconventional colors for your hair - gave the dolls a VERY beautiful artsy look . !

Thank you so much for sharing! Your dolls are amazing! I am so excited. Doll making is new to me and I can see it is going to be so much fun!
Nice! I was thinking of doing a OC I made that had curly hair as a doll, but wondered how I would make the hair curly, luckily found this!
thanks i needed this for a custom paul stanley doll. i hope it looks good on him
Learned more than I expected to. Creative, easy to follow. Thank you!

Great tutorial thank you. Does it need to be pure wool for the ringlets?
Excellent tutorial!

Great!!! 🙌 I subscribed!!! 👍 I Really enjoy your tutorials. Thanks!!! 🙌 Greetings from Arizona!!!
Thank you for sharing this technique with us....love it!
Fantastic! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Great tutorial, hopefully I can use it to make my favourite character from TV. I have a question, do you need sew wig cap on the doll?

You said you check them every 15 minutes, but don't say how long you leave them in. About how long does it take?
Thank you!! This is exactly what I needed to know!! ❤️
Thank you 👍🤗

Faerie Rings
Thanks! Those are great ideas, I'll try them out and tell you if they work later
Mine did that also with 4wt yarn.
Is this acrylic yarn?
Yup, I used Caron Simply Soft and Red Heart Super Saver
Thanks 🙏🏻 the question I needed!!
Nice curls! But…what if you wash your dolls? I think the curls get lost😢
Yeah I wouldn't machine wash a doll. Great job thank you.
How do I get your pattern
How long do the curls last before they come out?
They'll stay as long as they don't get wet, so far as I've seen. I have some dolls whose hair was curled a year ago and the curl is still holding.
Will these curls survive washing?
They won't, unfortunately. I think there's a way to make them last through a wash if you soak them in elmer's glue mixed with water though
Faerie Rings Thank you! That's what I thought!
very beautiful, thanks so much:)
Will it work with cotton yarn?

Also, one of the wigs is wavy, not curly, how did you acieve it? Thank you.
You can loosen the curls by using a wider rod when curling the hair. For the looser waves, I believe I used a size K knitting needle to curl the hair.
Can I seal a vinyl shower floor with liquid flex seal
fantastic ... thanx
Are those Steven universe dolls ???
I tried this and it didn't work. Found another video that said to use acrylic yarn. Guess I'll try it.
Couldn't the hair be added straight to the head?
Sure, if you want. The wig cap is just if you don't want the scalp color to peak through. Otherwise you might have to add a LOT of hair to get full coverage, which might end up being too much volume in the hair, depending on your project. Either way will work fine
It didn't work for me ;---;
Who knew? Thanks!
my yarn was brown and turned yellow in the oven - :(
That probably means your oven was too hot or you left it in just a bit too long, this is easy to do and I've definitely done it myself. Some yarns are more vulnerable to this than others, though.
