I have done this hike probably a dozen times and never taken this approach! I always start at the La Canada Open Trails Project trailhead near the Armstrongs nursery ... I'll have to try this approach!

Yea, that route is much tougher than this way, so if you take this Mt Lukens route, it should be cake. I didn't want to recommend the front route - I wasn't sure about how private the property was for the length of the trail.

Did that hike last weekend. Thanks for not revealing the location of the Cross town trail that merges with the teepee trail on the front side. It's still kind of a"locals only" hike and I hope it stays that way. That hike is very steep in places... very similar to poop out/punk out but longer. A better hike from the fire station up Lukens Truck Trail is Earl Canyon or if you have the endurance, Mt. Lukens (aprox. 17 miles)

Yea, I've been getting a lot of requests for a guide, and I'll always go with the more well-worn route instead of local use trails, etc. - and yea, I did that trail once, it's much tougher than Mt Lukens Road - glad you're able to hike and enjoy the area.

About how many parking spots do you think there are here? I may consider leading a hike from here.

Hi I have been hiking on that trail for 14 years until Wednesday June 2thd 2021 , I went to watch the sun set and on my way back a had encounter with a grizzly bear 🐻 by the bench, thank God nothing happened he just looked at me for about 3 minutes and was just praying 🙏 and then he turned around and disappeared in to the wilderness. I’m so lucky to be telling people to be careful, now I know how much God love’s me.
