Road Manners (1964)

  • London.
    M/S of a man coming out of his suburban house and giving his wife and daughter a kiss. He gets into his car in the garage; puts on his sunglasses and turns into a road monster! He reverses onto the road, narrowly missing a small boy on a bike, and backs straight into the path of a nifty sports car.
    Commentator talks of nice, polite people who are selfish and stupid drivers, as our monster proceeds to cut people up at traffic lights then overtakes before a zebra-crossing, whizzing over the crossing and nearly mowing down several pedestrians; we see several cars approaching the rather empty-looking Hammersmith flyover and roundabout.
    The road hog then slows to a crawl, holding up traffic behind him while ogling a sexy beatnik girl who is walking along a street. Next, he overtakes a long line of cars, and pushes his way in to the front of the queue, then stops his car in the middle of the street to get out and buy a newspaper from a vendor outside a tube station (could be Knightsbridge?).
    The man then steals a parking space from a lady with a silver bouffant hairstyle, who was about to reverse into the space - what a cad! He walks into a modern office block.
    A short sequence shows several people sounding car horns, shouting (silent) abuse at fellow drivers and crunching bumpers. Would be good for illustrating road rage.
    Cuts exist - see separate record.

      @@RS-tp3uu - Why? Because you'd prefer it? We don't all think like you do. I'm an American and I don't like classic American cars all that much. They are over large boats with front seats bigger than the home sofa, that have gigantic engines which are never used, so they are gas guzzlers too, and every one is an automatic with crappy steering because americans apparently are too lazy to "drive" a car and steer and shift it. So you plod down a straight line highway at 35 mph going "BLUB, BLUB, BLUB" because the rpm's are so low only 3 of the 8 cylinders are firing. No thanks. Just look at 32 seconds in... he cuts off a lovely blue MG Midget... being driven by a woman. She's driving stick and a sports car. How often do you see that in America?

    • @RS-tp3uu
      @RS-tp3uu 4 года назад +6

      56squadron I don’t think you know the first thing about American classic cars. Automatic transmissions were a luxury feature at one time, so the fast majority of cars didn’t have it. Some classics were gas guzzlers but a lot of them got 18-25 miles per gallon city, like the Ford falcon which could get 36 highway. I’m not sure why you think they could only go 35 mph, if you ever watched Jay Leno’s garage he drives them on the highway and goes 70 or 80 mph. As for 3 out of 8 cylinders working, that’s not even possible. If you think classic American cars are like that, the only one you probably ever saw was in a junkyard.
