Hellion became famous after being discovered by Ronnie James Dio in the mid-1980s. Hellion was based in Los Angeles and there were several line-ups, all of which were very good. The band probably would have become very big, if it was not for the major record companys' concept of female singers and they type of music women were expected to perform in the 1980s. Many famous managers and record companys offered Ann Boleyn deals if she agree to become more of a pop-rock singer, such as Pat Benetar. (There is a story that the former manager of Van Halen was convinced that Ann Boleyn was going to be "the next Pat Benetar." Another famous record producer, who had worked with Janis Joplin, said she was the 1980s answer to Janis.) At the same time, most of the record companies thought that the band itself was so heavy that they needed a male singer. These conflicts often caused band members to come and go.
Hellion developed a substantial following in the cities where they regularly performed. Because Ann Boleyn is one of the only metal singers who did not rely on sexy costumes and never "sold out" she has maintained a strong cult following, and releases recordings every several years. The last Hellion album came out in 2003 on Massacre Records (Germany).
She took a few years off from music to go to law school. But, she has said in interviews that she will continue performing and recording when she is done with law school.
Ann Boleyn was tapped to replace singer Dawn Crosby (RIP) in the legendary thrash band, Detente. Boleyn toured the USA and Europe with Detente in 2008 and 2009.
In 2010, following the death of her mentor, Ronnie James Dio, Ann Boleyn stopped touring. She performed live one time (at the All-Star Metal Jam at the NAMM Music show) in the last three years.
Ann Boleyn's facebook page indicates that she and former Dio & AC/DC drummer, Simon Wright, have reformed Hellion with the aid of a new guitarist, Maxxxwell Carlisle, and bass player, Bjorn Englen (Yngwie Malmsteen and Uli John Roth). A news report said that Hellion is currently in the studio with legendary producer, Ken Scott.

Chet, incredible guitarist and under rated musician. He was my guitar instructor for 2 years. The best instructor I had. He was and still is amazing.
He was my guitar teacher too. I can't remember the name of the school but it was in Montrose, CA

What makes her really awesome is that her "sexiness" comes from her talent, and the fact that she is NOT tarting it up.. She is dressed with rock and roll style. She is indeed pretty, but I really like the fact that she still holds her class.
I can affirm how cool Ann is regarding even small bands. Back in the late 90s/early 00s she was super cool and sent lots of promos and great advice. With as much talent as she has, she has always been super approachable. We had the biggest crush on her :)
No one can top Ann Boleyn's vocal performance on Screams In The Night. Still love this and can't wait for the new CD!
This band was totally underrated back in my days, the 80s that is, best decade for Metal!!! I'm 57 years old and still rocking, this is the kind of shit they're going to play at my funeral , I'll be 100 and still head banging!!!!

That's a matter of opinion. Still have wet dreams about Ann Boleyn. She has the best mid range grown of any female singer IMO. Doro is excellent, though too.

I agree. All of the musicians in the band during this line-up were outstanding. A lot of people don't know this, but the drummer was the original drummer of Dokken. The bass player was also famous in California and played in many of the best bands during the late 80s and early 90s. Personally, I think that Ann Boleyn was/is the best femal metal singer ever. And, Chet Thompson is on my top-5 of guitarists, right up there with Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhodes.

Honestly I don't know why Dio & Wendy didn't continue to help them. We did see Dio at Mates during the time but he never stepped in. I rem. Ann going over to Niji. I was constantly around Hellion during this time & at all gigs / practices. Yes they really were that tight of band and YES the shows were nothing less than AMAZING. I used 2 have all the live tapes & pics. Ann & the band were ALWAYS on and I mean that! It's a TOTAL Mystery to me why they never made it BIG during the 1980s.

Trip down memory lane--- She rocked the house @ the ROXY back in the day!
OMG! This brings back MAJOR memories LOL I worked w/ Ann & helped Hellion out a LOT during this time period plus I took guitar lessons for many years from Chet Thompson. I recently ran into the drummer Greg Pecka he's still the same cool Greg! I really worked hard to help this band make it and they really should have - the sucky thing is they couldn't get a gig as a opening act for a major artist and while I LOVE Dio during this time he really didn't help them - earlier he was involved.
Chet is a freakin' beast,, I absolutely love his guitar playing,,, please bring him into the light again.Hailzzz

There is a good interview with Ronnie James Dio in one of the old metal mages (Kerrang or maybe Metal Hammer?) where he said he didn't believe that females could sing metal until he heard Ann Boleyn's voice. He produced and managed Hellion for a while and apparently was Ann's close friend until his death.
Yup! If it wasn't for DIO , then Hellion would have been more underground.

Sorry Nolde1965. No problem. My English is not good. Ronnie James Dio produced Hellion (band with a female singer). Also, Doro and Hellion used to open for Dio. Ronnie James Dio did one interview said that Ann Boleyn reminded him of himself and that he enjoyed touring with Doro.

Breno Raphaldini Leather is just as powerful in her own way. She has a stronger voice in a lower register than Ann who shines in the upper registers.

Around 1993 i had a band called hellion with sone school pals, we lived in Portugal and the internet was not really a thing back then, also it was hard knowing about more "obscure/less known" bands back then, funny how all that time a band already existed with the same name :)

@YogaArmy Wendy's focus was Paul Shortino and Rough Cutt, who were my friends. Hellion opened for Dio and Whitesnake. Hellion got the crowd on their feet right away. Whitesnake followed and were pissed because the crowd wouldn't stand up. The crowd was sitting down the whole show until Whitesnake played played "Fool For Your Lovin' No More." Dio was great and had a great show but Hellion stole the show for people that arrived early enough. After that nobody wanted Hellion as the opener.

@714HellBoy Yes you are right on there. The focus was on Rough Cutt and Paul. I was/still am a big Rough Cutt fan - they were an incredible band that really never reached their full potential - same w/ Hellion. Those early shows were amazing. Also all the early Hellion shows were amazing. Ann was always very high energy. Lots of very fond memories. I hear ya on that - I rem. Ann telling me a lot of stories. Chet's solo is pretty friggin amazing on this song!!!

Ann Boleyn is still singing, but now is in a thrash/cross-over band called Detente. They have videos on youtube and are very good.

From what I heard, Ann Boleyn (the singer) and CHet Thompson (the guitarist) both went back to college. Ann Boleyn finished up first. In interview she said that she didn't want to reform Hellion without the guitarists. So that is probably why she has been playing with Detente. But, she said that Chet will be done with college soon, so who know what will happen in the future.

Wow...cool video find--I didn't know "Hellion," had made a video for this...so cool... I remember being in the record store looking at the back of the album cover and thinking...I don't how this is going to be, but because of the song "Easy Action," I decided to give "Screams In The Night," a try; this is one of my favorite albums/cds of all time.

There is an awesome interview with Ann Boleyn this month in Maximum Metal. It answers some of the comments that are posted here.
The guitarist (Chet Thompson) was a close friend and student of Randy Rhodes. The singer (Ann Boleyn) was a keyboard player -- until Ronnie James Dio heard her sing. Dio is credited in several interviews (by Dio) for teaching Ann Boleyn to "stand up and shout."
