With all due respect but I once heard the BBC themselves saying that the BBC logo itself was trademarked and that it wasn't subject to any font licensing fees
Hi @@rogerdarthwell5393 do you mean the recently redesigned logo or the older version. if you referencing the new one - of course now they own IP over BBC Reith which wasn't the case for Gill Sans Plus, we'll never know what deal BBC had with Monotype foundry over Gill Sans.
Very insightful. Perhaps as designers we need to think critically on how to avoid the extremes of such expenses in order to make our clients less anxious when dealing with us.
The monetary figure is slightly misleading is it not. That figure is covering the ENTIRE onscreen rebrand including menus, idents, webpages, apps, radio stations. It's a mammoth task.
It’s a yes and no most often Brand design studios charge for; brand strategy, identity design and implementation separately… Why a Yes, if implementation was part of the costing then 100% this could capture things like menus, idents and whatnot. However, if No! Both the strategy and identity could still come close or even beyond the $60000 budget
One of the things I miss about college was having a community to talk about design with. Thankfully I found a job in the field, but I work in-house so I don't really get these sort of conversations anymore. Anyway, all this to say that I love your videos and they're reminding me of why I chose to becomes a designer. Keep it up!
I can relate. It reminds me of the agency days - convo over ad campaign! Would you? be interested to jump on a call with and share your thoughts over this very rebrand or my next review(udemy and clubhouse) *Thanks btw and nice meeting
@@paulzana I agree with you. It takes a lot of iteration, questions, meetings, etc. to develop even a minor change to a major brand. They've been rightly conservative in the changes over the years, so we all still recognize them. Also, the spacing and letter weights took into account the fact that most people will see the logo on screens. I like that you pointed that out. Developing the font was smart, too.
@@paulzana I love the new logo. Is it worth the money? Well at first I thought it wasn't but then the angle you explained it from made a lot of sense. So yes I do think it is worth the money.

I think the cost overstepped the line slightly but not to much but the re-brand itself is quite nice.
Yeah but meh... its BBC hehe
Looks like the recent rebrand of Xiaomi, which is making the letters smaller.
I agree… Mostly brands are just rebranding for hype now times
Informative! Thanks. I'm a long-time pro designer, and I still learned from this.
