- State regulators are about to make a decision on an important change to many Californians’ electricity bill.
Whether the proposed change will raise or lower your monthly bill depends on how much money you make - and who you ask.
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is the state’s regulator of privately-owned utilities. Those include Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), which provides power to millions of people stretching from Santa Barbara County up to Humboldt County. Its coverage area includes publicly owned carve-outs, like SMUD in Sacramento and Roseville Electric, which are not regulated by the CPUC.

"California utility regulators decide how much poorer you will be in the near future"
There, I fixed your title.
California energy costs are already some of the highest in the country. Most of the time the CPUC just rubber stamps PG&E's rate increases. It's a racket. Some other states actually have can choose their utility company.
All roads lead to the governor all will bend the knee and kiss the ring.
It shouldn't be based on income it should be based on usage.
WRONG!!! This is what Liberal DEMOCRASPS want you to BELIEVE!!!
I have the same set up on my gas bill, my PGnE bill went up from $98 to $139 pr month, so much for fixed rate and 8m us ing less gas.
Just another money grab .. imo
All those people working under the table getting price breaks lol...
the California franchise tax board should not be giving private tax return data to the cpuc, rather if someone is low income they can submit an application demonstrating they meeting the requirements to get a lower fixed rate. and the fix rate should be lower for everyone, maybe $1-$2 a month unless you make $50 million a year in combined earned and unearned income. We need to quit taxing the low and middle class, and reduce taxes for small businesses as well and corporations that create jobs. Also if you're renting you likely use less electricity so won't see any benefit to the reduction in the rate so this fixed cost will increase your bill if you're low income.
My electric rates are 33c KWh to 75 c KWH
So in another word, you will pay more if you make decent living. Subscription is a great business. I hope the new ceo makes lots money!
I don't believe the companies.
these regulators are crazy, does that mean their own energy bill is going up and that of their friends and family lol?
How much of someone else money do you think you're entitled to?
All of it.
Now might be a good time to invest in U-Haul.
Cut 5-7c per kwh first then raise back up next month and blame on inflation.
Its socialism
Double speak 🗣️ and a bunch of hogwash:
California democrats take your money for your own benefit
Why is the fixed fee income dependent? At the most, it should be tied to the capacity at the Electrical Service Drop, similar to how water meter charge.
