  • Going to Palawan this year I had to visit the Underground River in Sabang, Puerto Princesa. Or fully called: the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park.
We go by boat, and take the jungle tour (monkey trail) back.
Follow on Facebook for more updates!
    / travelgretl
Don’t forget to check all music credits down below
    -
NOTE! If you’re a foreigner and you try to book a room in Sabang - the Sabang in PUERTO GALERA is a different one from the one in PUERTO PRINCESA. You might end up booking a room in a totally different place, so please be careful
    -
    Tekst:
Going from Port Barton to the Underground River will only take you half a day by mini van and tricycle. After arriving in Sabang I check in at the hotel it’s time for a little walk around town.
    BEELD
There are a lot of resorts in here, for every budget. Please do realize this Sabang is NOT the same as the Sabang in Puerto Galera! I found fellow tourists booking a room in the wrong place, ending up paying twice.
Well the main attraction around here, of course, is the Underground River. Attracting many locals and foreigners every day. It’s best to go early in the morning. You’ll be first in line, avoiding hours of waiting! Remember the desk opens at 8.
You will need to find a group of 6 people in total to share a boat. And when you’ve found your group, you’re good to go!
    BEELD
I’m very excited we’re almost in. Remember it’s not allowed to talk inside.
It will be only the bats singing here….
    BEELD
The sculptures passing by are amazing to see. Just imagine how long it would’ve taken for nature to create it exactly like you see it today. And this is only a small part of the entire river, which is 8.2 kilometers in total. New caves, river channels and even small waterfalls have been discovered quite recently. That makes me wonder: what more would there be hiding in here?
    BEELD
And then there’s daylight again! Well you could go back the same way you entered, but if you’re up for stretching your legs, you better go by jungle…
    BEELD
Our guide explains a lot about the nature that surrounds us. We even find some…
We’re real archeologists here! No, just kidding.
The whole walk is definitely worth the detour though. Ending up at a beautiful place as well….

YES! I'm on the roll with making movies :D
This time it's the Underground River. We skipped on it 2 years ago cause we heard it would be too crowded, but I was too curious not to go. I mean, it's one of the wonders of nature! There must be something there right?!
And there was a whole lot of it! I really enjoyed this little part of my trip. Hope you'll enjoy it too.
Also: if you haven't done so already: this is the perfect moment to come over to facebook and join the community there!
With RUclips getting crowded in messages on my channel (thanx so much :D) Facebook gives me more of an overview of who to talk to :) So join in!

Music credits, as always, are down in the descriptionbox.

Salamat for this great video Gretl. In preparation of our travelling to Palawan I watched many videos abou that place, especially about the undergroundriver. Why do I think that this one is the best (including mine which I just finished).
    1) You have the right mixture of personal talking and showing interesting things. A lot of backpackers show most of the time their face and talk and talk about beautiful things instead of showing them fullscreen. I really don't like that.
    2) Your comment in the background is interesting. No talking about how the pizza is and other unimportant things. Many backpackers even don't know that you can speak a comment in the background.
    3) The background music is nice, but that is a personal taste. Even more important is that it is only a little bit louder than your comment. I don't like it when it is much louder like in many videos.
    4) You ask and answer the right question, and we have the same opinion. Yes it is crowdy there and you have to wait at 2 places, but it is nevertheless worth while going there, because it is really a wonder of nature.
    5) I like the way you are flirting with the camera.
You had a nice way back, but our tour with the zipline in the end was also not bad. Good luck Gretl for your future travellings and of course a thumb up!

I was told by some friends who had been there that it is a must. I forgot to ask them if bringing your own flashlight is allowed. Is there good airflow inside? Still air could be an issue to some. Tours are allowed only up to a certain distance from the entrance; only scientists are allowed beyond. Is it for safety reasons or is it possible harm to this unique ecosystem? I cannot find good information what are really deep inside upstream of this river.

    • @TravelGretl
      @TravelGretl  7 лет назад

I was not pulled back by the air inside... yeah true, you're only allowed in for a certain amount of meters, the rest is for the cave and scientists. I think it's for harming the ecosystem mainly.
I can imagine. Don't know how much information there is out there reachable for us!

Amazing video! Time Out is doing a project on the best things to do across the world and we’d love to feature this video as an example of the Puerto Princessa underground river. Would you be interested in giving us permission to use it? We will credit you as well!
