For the tall riders, i bought the Z900 2021, The normal seat on it is good and comfy. You won't have any comfort issues on it. The guy who sold me the bike asked my if i wanted a higher seat option and i set it wasn't necissary since i felt comfy. He had a demo with the higher seat option and i tried it out and i went from comfy to 100% perfect. My knees perfectly hugged the sides of the bike. It's literally perfect and only 160€ increase. So yeah the Z900 is great for tall riders. (I am 6.5 ft aka 196cm)
I dunno, I really like up/down quickshifters and cruise control. This 2020 Z900 doesn't have those, but the 2020 Ninja 1000SX does. You also get a cool lean angle indicator that can track your max lean angle in each direction for a ride. That stuff's cool.
After 20 years of riding bikes over 120 hp, I am tied of constantly fighting the urge to twist the throttle and bought the Ninja 400 on sale for $3150 and love it. It is still faster than all but super cars but it can't get me into trouble in less than a second. Let the good times roll.
I agree Brother, I'm in the same boat. Been on every thing from a 600cc sports bikes up to 900 and even road a few Harleys but now I'm on a new Kawasaki z400 and I've been Loving it
Not the ":same boat" the Z400 is my second motorcycle, and if it weren't for the vibes and buzz it would definitely be my last bike. It's a blast to ride it quick and wring it out. Don't need more speed. (more smoothness would be good)
i've sold my yamaha r3 2020 and bought a brand new z900... Tbh r3 was much more fun to ride )) But i wouldn't call it "safe". The z900 is much safer imo.
Corbin Knappins I work at iron pony in Columbus, we just got a blue and silver one in last week. If you’re still looking definitely worth the trip. As you can see it has me up at 5:30 on my day off looking up RUclips videos of how it rides. Regardless, ride safe!
Throttle snatchiness most likely is from air inlet restriction under certain throttle conditions which are part of the EURO regs for trying to hush bikes up. Doesn't take much to deal with and loosing some weight by swapping out the exhaust with a muffler and link pipe will help a lot too. Probably want to get a ECU remap though. If it has ride by wire throttle then one can always fit an aftermarket up/down quick shifter if that is your thing. Main thing that is important is the Engine and Chasis - if they are good, the rest can be modified around it.
I have a 2021 Z-900 and I have loved it since the start. The seat is uncomfortable but use a gel pad on it. Smooth, reliable, and mature naked bike. I put some Pirelli Angel GT touring tires on it and they work really nice especially in often wet conditions on the East Coast here. I am trying to find some criticism on it but really I am very happy with it. Also, I am 5'11" so I am bit on the taller side but a gel seat pad makes it a better fit.
I really like the color scheme on the bike in the video, I didn't care for the color options of the 2021 models. So now I have a reserve on a 2022 model in white, and hopefully at this point I'll only need to wait one more month.
I've been looking at getting this model for a long time and I'm normally the guy who loves buying the last year's version to save some money but I probably won't be doing that I think all these little upgrades are nice and the LED headlight looks sweet!

Great video- thanks 👍🏽.... I bought the 2019 version and could not be happier. These Z900s are fantastic. Great design (I’ve got the red frame/black & silver tank & trim/red wheels); outstanding performance; & excellent quality.... all for $8,700 USD, brand spankin’ new.
I have a 2021. The seat is awful! I had some foam installed in it. Fantastic bike. Even today I love the handling, stability, and the power is plenty. Note- I put some Pirelli touring tires on it and they are much better on rough pavement and rainy weather. Thanks for the video.
First thing I did when I got mine was to change the tyres and Oxford heated grips. As for all this new electrickery, well i'm fortunately of the age where the thing inside my helmet somehow controls the thing on the end of my wrist and compensates for changing road conditions - all very clever really !

Thanks for a great review Michael. Where I live the Z900 and MT09 SP are about he same price. Which would you buy? A low Km 2020 CB1000R just a bit more... What are your thoughts?
Yes Michael! Good to see you reviewing this bike as I am thinking about buying it, not sure if you remember me but I pulled up on my zx6r a few months ago in Peterborough and you let me sit on that Ducati Street Fighter... Hope you and the team are all well👊
The old model did not have a snatchy throttle. Rode one and it as was smooth as silk. It is also very grunty for a four cylinder bike. And what a chassis. Really sporty and responsive.
I want to see Kawasaki produce a solid 800-900cc Vtwin, or a parallel with 270° crank. All they make is inline-4 these days, or reworked 650 parallel from 2005.
There are a lot of aftermarket options for heated grips or a quick shifter so that's no problem. The engine and chassis are so good on this bike,I think it's one of the if not the best "do it all" bike with good quality finishing for the price.I owned 2 Yamaha's and the finish on those was disappointing...
Dont add quickshifter, this engine and old z1000 engine have problem for quickshifter, thats why they dont added or sell later. If you use it around 30 40k's you will lose your gearbox. I seen a lot of Kawi that gearbox problem cause of quickshifter.
Hey Great Review ! I just turned 30 and did my license , I’ve always been driving cars so far but now i want to get into riding bikes too! The Z900 is getting so great reviews! Can’t get used to the look of it though. U think it’s a way better bike than the f900r? It’s really difficult , Cb(r)650 is also nice but not in the same league, I guess more beginner friendly though. I’ll be paying it off over 3 years. Dream of a bike is the street triple rs , but I guess it’s just too expensive and quick?

@@sugarnads All motorcycles are poorly built. Why? What can you actually do as a corporation with 8-9 thousand dollars and still make a margin on sales? You gotta cut pennies and dollars cost SOMEWHERE. I owned a Z900 in 2017. Traded for an MT-09 in 2018. Still have the Yamaha. Many frustrating things about it, but the engine is one of the truly good things Yamaha has done in the last 6 years. It's going to take a few grand to "fix" the bike the way I want it, but honestly, the Z900 also needed fork cartridges, rear shock, full suite of power de-restriction (exhaust, filter, ECU). Both Yamaha and Kawasaki come with horrible stock tires (adequate, but numb). Both could use help in the brakes department (pads, lines) but the Yamaha comes with radials, Kawasaki with Z800 parts (axial mounts). Kawasaki feels more stable, confident from factory, give the ergonomics a bit more streetfighter stance rather than motard stance. Yamaha INTENDED that position as the bike was defined as "roadster-motard" from the project designers. I like the styling and function upgrades to the Z900. Verdict is out whether it got ride-by-wire from the former cable throttle. The throttle behavior was nearly perfect in 2017. New Euro5 and traction control probably made it worse. TFT is nice (bluetooth stuff is stupid), LED headlight looks 3x better than before and might actually be useful at night, seat got some actual padding and increases legroom as it used to be very cramped. Frankly, what do people expect from 8000-9000 dollar price range on a 125 hp motorcycle? Perfection? Perfect paint, hardware, switchgear, tires, brakes, premium fit/finish, full electronics suite, cruise? Good luck. That's reserved for 19,000 dollar R1M which isn't anywhere near as usable nor comfortable or practical. I'm interested in the Duke 890R coming. Sounds like a truly no-compromise machine in the lightweight mid-power category. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. I'm also interested in the updated Ninja 1000SX. Cruise, quickshifter, ride-by-wire, LED everything, suspension tweaks, camshaft tweaks, seating tweaks, and probably the most loaded best all-rounder in a sport/touring class sub-13-grand price in the world.
No, it dives way less than the Z650. I own the Z650 and compared it to a rented Z900 yesterday. Moreover, less vibrations. It plays in a different league.
A lukewarm recommendation on a chilly day from what is, I believe, Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava in Spain. (I happen to have a little video from my own ride on a fantastic road in the area on my Ninja 1000SX on my channel)
One new bike is the BMW f900r that competes head to head...the beemer gives 64 or 67? Ft lb torque at lower revs. Optioned up you get the active rear suspension, heated grips, quickshifter, gps ready, cornering headlight, more info on dash like lean angle and brake %...but adds another $3500 USD...
Shoot...can’t stand throttle jerkiness! Which naked bikes do not have throttle jerkiness? I found the gears really close together on the previous years.
At its price point, the lack of quickshifter is forgivable. But not having heated grips even as a factory option is more puzzling. I also wish it had a fork compression adjuster, ya da ya da ya da. The candy lime green frame is pretty cool, it reminds me of an old Ventana El Saltamontes mountainbike (and Electric Sex welds!) ¡Ole!
I’ve got genuine accessory Kawasaki heated grips on my 2018 Z900RS, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t fit the Z900, after all the platforms are near identical. Agree about an up/down quickshifter, after riding a S1000RR I wouldn’t buy a sport bike without one. Still, they’ve got to build the bike to a price so I guess that explains it. Also, to have an auto-blipper for quickshifter downshifts, I think the bike needs to have an electronic throttle (ride by wire).
I kinda miss the metallic aluminium finish on engine casing that was there in 2019 model. That gave z900 a classy and premium look. This black finish looks bland.
@@bennettsbikesocial I viewed all the footage of this launch. I was held up at the front of your filming on my twisties en-route to my supper. Why Kawasaki can't put the 900RS forks/brakes on the 900 is beyond me. These non-radials are from the Z800. I had the 2017 model. Traded off. Really like the changes made, especially to the headlight/signals. That terrible instrument display it had has been eliminated for a better TFT. Nice. Also looks like the seat got some actual thickness and padding. The thing I had was a slab of plywood practically, with cramped leg space.
I loved my Ninja 400 but the girlfriend hated the rear thimble of a seat. She prefered my Fat Boy. I traded my 2018 Ninja 400 for a 2014 Triumph America and I put $400 in my pocket to boot. The girlfriend loves the rolling loveseat. I will get a 2nd bike soon. Z900 is a contender.
Mr. Bennett, I noticed something in this video. @1:08 mark, did you move into a more upright riding position to aid in breaking prior to banking into that corner? Is that common practice for more experienced riders? Just wanted to get some feedback from you about this to help me become a better motorcyclist. Thanks. Terrific video, btw. 👍🏾
Me too. Been thinking either this or 2012 r1, but if i take this, i got lot more money to spare in needy days, and by choosing this i would enjoy scenery more as i wont be speeding as much as on r1.
All the new bikes getting the tft screens with extra apps. only the MT09-tracer GT has it. my guess that the S1000R and XR, and the MT09 will get them soon. If i buy one of those now, they will feel so old and out dated. soo perhaps jump onboard with this one to not feel outdated right away.
@bennetts There are two models, the 125 cv one for A license and the 95cv one for a2 adaptable. My question is, can you limit the 125cv for the a2 license in europe or spain @bennetts
Rode them both pretty much back to back from a dealer. In all honesty I found the Z900 more fun. It pulls better from low down and in the mid-range. The Honda is faster at the top as so it should be with 143hp available compared to 123hp for the Z900. I also preferred the steering response and overall handling of the Kawasaki. Both are the same weight but they both feel nice and flickable on the move. Both are great bikes and there no losers if you choose one over the other. The 2020 Z900 has a lovely full colour TFT dash whilst the Honda has a LCD dash but is still rather nice to look at. 1k euros is quite a difference in price while in the UK the Honda is far more expensive [about 3k £] so a no brainer for me . The Z900 is much better value for money
I'd say the Z400 or the Z650 would be a better choice for a new rider. This one is almost 1000cc. That kind of power could get you in trouble pretty quickly.
I'm 6ft (183cm) and found the peg position ideal for cornering but not necessarily for longer distances. The screen does a great job at deflecting the wind though.
I started on a 2019 z900. However, I did have some experience riding dirt. Just ride smart and safe. The acceleration is breathtaking. I am 6' 250lbs. The seating position is excellent in my opinion. One of the rare bikes that make you feel part of the machine vs just setting on top of one.
Probably not. 2020 gets traction control which would require additional wiring and feedback to the display. But I feel ya. 2017 had a pretty bad display, very little screen and a lot of useless face.
I see lots of road tests people ride in 3rd or 4th gear why not 6th should run comfortably at 40 MPH , I ride a kawasaki sx 1000 in Wales GB it will pull in 6th from 30 mph
Always loved the 900 had a couple one back in the day fast. This one does not disappoint but those body panels front sides of the tank look like ears no blip shift tires made to last a lot more than perform and that exhaust looks like luggage or a home for larger mammals. I'd say the choice of tires was s nod to dealers. So all in all no thanks
I don't understand the huge shock that KTM is higher priced for lots of other reviewers when comparing Japanese bikes vs top range European ones (KTM, Aprilia, Ducati). Japanese bikes while no doubt reliably inexpensive to maintain just don't have the Gucci finish quality of their European counterparts. Just facts. What's the huge deal if your going to pay 1500 quid more for a KTM. Duh, it's a KTM. What a shocker. If folks complain that's too expensive, then buy Japanese.
This purchased with better tyres - not even worth keeping the oems for the run in - looks like a good general purpose yet fun bike. Grips are the biggest shame imo, but there are a few decent heated gloves available and I guess that cheap Oxford set of grips is a possibility. Good review, as ever.

Could you please tell about what mic setup are you using?
Finally kawa made 1 good version of the z900 with higher seat 1 good tft screen full Led.. A quickshifer is a plus not a must have
Not good if you already bought an earlier model, im gutted!
Quickshifter is a must have, atleast for me. Comes in real handy at corner craving.
@Meliora you "drive " motorcycle??? No thanks.. I will "ride" the motorcycle because I already 'drive' my car.
Would you buy one of these…if not what would you get instead?
Can you do Kawasaki ninja 650 (2020) and zx25r?please
I'll be waiting till 2022. Hopefully, then the quickshifter will be available. Plus, the announced blue-black colour scheme looks rather promising.
im getting this bike next year.
first thing im gonna do is get some bar end mirrors and slipon exhaust and tail tidy
Does the front end dive at all like the Z650 under braking? Is it boring?
No, it dives way less than the Z650. I own the Z650 and compared it to a rented Z900 yesterday. Moreover, less vibrations. It plays in a different league.
This is the probable replacement for my cb500. Great review, Michael.
and probable replacement for my rebel 500cc next year.
Isnt its size smaller compared to ninja 800? Can u tell the difference?
A lukewarm recommendation on a chilly day from what is, I believe, Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava in Spain. (I happen to have a little video from my own ride on a fantastic road in the area on my Ninja 1000SX on my channel)
One new bike is the BMW f900r that competes head to head...the beemer gives 64 or 67? Ft lb torque at lower revs. Optioned up you get the active rear suspension, heated grips, quickshifter, gps ready, cornering headlight, more info on dash like lean angle and brake %...but adds another $3500 USD...
The headlight cluster on the older models look a lot better.
Shoot...can’t stand throttle jerkiness! Which naked bikes do not have throttle jerkiness? I found the gears really close together on the previous years.
I love my 2020 z900! Thanks for the Review!😝👊💚🔝
Gratulation perfect vidio! Z900 Amazing!
Is the sport mode on 2020 model more wilder than the previous Z900 or it is just equal?
More interested in that dainese vest you are wearing. Is it comfie on the road Michael
Yes, I tried it under my leather riding jacket but it was too tight. Add the jacket and the SmartJacket together and it's quite heavy though.
@@bennettsbikesocial thanx for that, looks like alpinestars Solution is better design
Yeah that's true, but Yamaha with mt09 gives u a quick shifter and at a 500€ lower price
U guys can make a comparison video on street triple R and z900 2020
I kinda miss the metallic aluminium finish on engine casing that was there in 2019 model. That gave z900 a classy and premium look. This black finish looks bland.
There's a blue one with blue wheels in the US for 2020 as well
You don’t miss the previous ugly analogic display I bet.
Please share about your GPS navigation system and GPS holder...
That scenery looks like my road to Rupit. I ride my kwak Sx Se everyday on that mountain. Great road for any bike.
I didn't even film the best road: from Tossa de Mar to Sant Feliu de Guíxols - take a look on Google Maps!
@@bennettsbikesocial I viewed all the footage of this launch. I was held up at the front of your filming on my twisties en-route to my supper. A 30kms ride up the mountain and you had 12+ phographers. You picked the flattest part of the mountain. Around 2kms.
Wow betide you for not challenging this mountain!
Come back and do the 30kms! You will enjoy 46 degrees on the right & 42 degrees on the left.
I'm 59yrs and I travel this mountain on a daily basis with my supercharged H2 Sx Se .
But I suppose everything is cool 'cause you looked cool in your gear and the lighting was good.
My 16yr old daughter is doing her final test on the road for her 125. Already she, with her skinny bones is able to ride my Sx Se. The UK & EU has gone daft! I got my 1000cc + licence at 17yrs. My daughter, who races me around a track is required to do all sorts of Government income has to ensure she pay & pays & pays.
In my day I read MortorCycle News.
Please fight against "Too much Government".
May I ask what GPS holder is that... I’ve really been looking for one..thank you
It was provided by TomTom so I assume it comes with the 'Rider' sat nav kit.
Thank you for your response.
Go buy the display on Ebay new for $30. Check to see it has MPH readout first.
@@fredkilian4049 Seriously doubt the new TFT has the same plugs and wires as the older display.
I wonder if kawasaki will make a ZX9R or a ninja 900..
ZX-636, ZX-10R.
No, there's no need or demand. The down-sized Ninja1000 engine is where this 948cc engine comes from.
I like the new TFT screen, I have a first gen and wondered if I could put one on mine.
Does anyone know if I can swap that TFT cluster on to my 2018 z900? Don't care for the riding modes.
Hello Brother, neat review, i am all set to buy the 20 z900 next year, but i am also torn apart between the zx6r, lets see what the time brings.
Same choice I'm trying to make at the moment. I'm taking them both out for a test ride in a couple of weeks and will post videos of both.
Me too. Been thinking either this or 2012 r1, but if i take this, i got lot more money to spare in needy days, and by choosing this i would enjoy scenery more as i wont be speeding as much as on r1.
@@haziqismail308 pre 2014 R1 have twitchy throttle and clutch issues. Better to buy the latest available next best thing.
Cool helmet. What is it?
An AGV Pista GP
I guess the U.S. version doesn’t come with LED turn signals🤔🙃
Id rather they priced in the cost of a qs and blipper ! Wow it would be even more fun. Cracking bike for the money.
Most machines can have that added aftermarket (qs up, but qs down requires throttle-by-wire).
No para eso tienes 95 cv
No es cabron el bennetts
do you tinke that it will come a new Z1000 2021?
no
Anyone know when it hits the us market
12:05 why did she or he, use his foot on the ground in a slow corner?
I so that tooI just like it . I started on a moped and dragging my feet became a habit.
@@StefonStewart its unsave really, if something would kick up your foot and you hit your heel to the bike, bad stuff could happen. Be save ✌
how does it compare to honda cb1000r neosport caffè? where i live they are just about the same price( kawa it’s 1k€ cheaper)
Honda screwed up the bike and took away the midrange it was known for. I would get an older Cb1000r if you want midrange
would you say this is new rider friendly?
I'd say the Z400 or the Z650 would be a better choice for a new rider. This one is almost 1000cc. That kind of power could get you in trouble pretty quickly.
Deffo no more then z650 1st bike
Imma buy this as my 1st bike!
Street Triple R is probably a better comparison maybe?
Good shout - probably the most direct comparison in terms of price, performance and overall package.
How is it for taller riders
I'm 6ft (183cm) and found the peg position ideal for cornering but not necessarily for longer distances. The screen does a great job at deflecting the wind though.
I'm between this and MT09
Same, the z900 is a lot better priced where i live though
@Meliora just got my 2020 z900 yesterday 😁😁
@Meliora Black and red and i live in Sweden so it has to have ABS by law if that is what you meant by elec support. Cheers 😁
@Meliora Thanks, will do! 😁
is this a good starter bike for someone 6'0 tall 170 lbs
Yes with traction control you will love it
I started on a 2019 z900. However, I did have some experience riding dirt. Just ride smart and safe. The acceleration is breathtaking. I am 6' 250lbs. The seating position is excellent in my opinion. One of the rare bikes that make you feel part of the machine vs just setting on top of one.
@@mushin744 thinking about getting one of these, currently have vstrom 650, how is riding position, about same height as you.
How is brake ...?
Think brembo on front not sure on the rear
Anyone here looked at/comapred this to the big banana Z1000? if yes, how do they compare? Thanks
Michael mann? So the triumph is the winner?
question: Can i put that screen on my 2017 z900?
Probably not. 2020 gets traction control which would require additional wiring and feedback to the display. But I feel ya. 2017 had a pretty bad display, very little screen and a lot of useless face.
@@exothermal.sprocket display is terrible right? Gutted i'm missing out on these new features but hey i've been able to enjoy the bike for 2 years
@@Chewz_Life Wouldn't find the updates a reason to trade or sell. They aren't significantly different.
I see lots of road tests people ride in 3rd or 4th gear why not 6th should run comfortably at 40 MPH ,
I ride a kawasaki sx 1000 in Wales GB it will pull in 6th from 30 mph
Always loved the 900 had a couple one back in the day fast.
This one does not disappoint but those body panels front sides of the tank look like ears no blip shift tires made to last a lot more than perform and that exhaust looks like luggage or a home for larger mammals.
I'd say the choice of tires was s nod to dealers.
So all in all no thanks
I ad a KZ900. I think it was a '78.
Av heated grips on mine some job
72 C. Can you breath in that ?
It's not external temperature it's the engine temperature which when cold it's about right.
923 brake horsepower?
123bhp
Brilliant machine toured Scotland Wales WAW Ireland Great time,
Name if the music please.
Can you please tell me benelli 600i bike is best for riding and sounding or Kawasaki z900 bike. Which bike is best for this 2 options ??
Kamal Shakeb 600i is crap. It’s made just for sound. Z900 is an overall package. Can’t really compare 600 to a 950
much better than the MT-09
In Israel it’s £2,200 under the MT09 and no need for heated grips... Yeah!!
🍻🍻
Need ventilated grips there, I bet.
Chinmay Kashid I snatched one of the last pre-updates 2020 for £1,100 under and I’m a happy new Z900 owner.
What an awesome bike 🍻🍻
This bike cost 15.600 $ in Norway... What a drag...
More excited for the z650, hope to see a review here
Aaron Burela And you will, my colleague Steve is riding it in mid-Jan
Thank Michael
They charged me 9300 for mine the black and white one
In thailand Z900 2020 443,100 and Se 465,400 Thaibaht
TeRhee Racing over priced over there!!! Here in the states is 244,840 baht
I have an mt07 an I think I'd get this over the mt09
me to.. i m yamaha fan.. but this one is better for my roding style.. i just dont know is it reaible like yamaha
This purchased with better tyres - not even worth keeping the oems for the run in - looks like a good general purpose yet fun bike. Grips are the biggest shame imo, but there are a few decent heated gloves available and I guess that cheap Oxford set of grips is a possibility. Good review, as ever.
