    Like any other addiction, gambling (the thrill of the chase) can get way out of control before you realize how much financial/psychological damage has occurred. These people are still young and can bounce back and live a beautiful and fulfilling life without gambling.

    Er.. no. Don’t be more ‘disciplined’, just stop. If you’re irresponsible enough to blow all your wages in a matter of minutes / hours / days, then selfishly rely on your sensible friends & family to survive through the month, there’s no such thing as ‘being disciplined’.

      Telling an addict "just stop" is like telling a normal person to stop getting hungry. Is a smoker able to "just stop" ?? An addict's brain is altered. Its a mental illness that needs treatment/rehab. I was an addict for 15 years until I was able to get out of it. Three year gamble free now.

      @LauraBidingCitizen 3 года назад +1

      Okay. They haven’t got addictions, they’re being frivolous because they know they’ve got people to lean on who will get them out of their shit time & time again. They’re greedy & want a life that’s unachievable unless you graft hard. I’ve seen addiction - sex, alcohol, gambling, food, drugs - this isn’t addiction. It might be borderline, which is the entire point of the bloody show, to stop them falling into a rabbit hole they can’t get out of - but no, this isn’t addiction. These people would be on their arse if it was addiction. Right now they’re merely selfish & greedy spoilt brats. There’s a considerable difference.

    Guys, I worked as a casino dealer years ago, on average 95 out 100 gamblers I came across during my shift, lost their money, and even those few who "would win", were still in red when you took their whole gambling history into account. If gambling was designed to make gamblers rich, casinos would go bankrupt. I have never gambled, except for one or two occasions when playing poker with some friends, and that was it.

    I've had this exact feeling. Going to casino at 10pm, telling yourself only gonna stay for an hour or two and leave and spend only $200. Next thing you know, it's 5am, you spend all your $2,300 paycheck, plus took $1,000 overdraft at the bank. Now its 6am, nobody on the streets, no cars, you have no money for a cab so you end up walking in the cold. You were up $450 and should've left by 12am. Then you take advil PM to knock yourself out and sleep. You wake up next morning and realize right away what happened and a tsunami of depression fills your mind and body. Your family is calling you because you made plans 2 days before to hang out, ita sunny outside, everyone's smiling on the streets, yet you dont wanna do anything, you feel terrible and nothing makes you feel better. You manage somehow by borrowing from that one friend who always understands because everyone else gave up, and you ask for just enough to buy food to survive and get to work, you feel better in 5 days, but then in 2 weeks once you get paid again do the same exact mistake. Worst feeling ever.

    The biggest lie about gambling is that it can be done for "entertainment". It's not entertainment. If it were, you could happily play a game or watch the sport without gambling. It's not the same as watching a movie, because everyone gets the same thing if you pay to see a movie. Nobody gets asked to leave half way through because they run out of money.
    Show me someone who "can afford to lose" money and I'll show you someone with a problem, even if they don't end up poor/in debt, they will have some kind of issue going on in order to have that thought process.

    Cutting access to money is what my uncle did. And he ended up killing himself using pesticide pills. Because of his constant lies he lost respect in most of his relationships, with kids, wife, bothers and sisters. His family stopped supporting him. And when he found himself in deep dept, he resorted to take money from local mafia. He was millions in debt. Then mafia started chasing him. He finally killed himself yesterday. I am here just to have better understanding of what he went through. The support group of a person should be educated enough about how addiction works. If they cannot they blame the person not the habit. Habit can be changed through practice. But the love he had for his wife and kids was pure but no one understood behind the curtain of lies.

    Just heard one caller on a radio phone-in about this very subject and I agree that it is all types of individuals across the board including women gamblers. Like any addiction, it is recognising a problem/problems via self help, counselling, being a better person than before. I also think that we all need to change our attitudes to gambling be it companies, leaders, ordinary member of public, laws etc. Going down the lines of solutions, support groups, plans in place so that male and female individuals do not end up like previous generations have done.

I'm really devastate in this moment , I don't know what to do or how to react to this situation. I'm not earning much because of lockdown and probably for this reason I start betting as well. One for my son I put $40 weekly and any spare change. I put $100-$200 a week for my piggie bank which I'd promised and dedicated for him. I see him check his piggie bank sometime his facial body expression tell me it give him little of hope happiness. It also give me edge of knowing I'm doing right thing for my son and me.
