In my state, running around with a fictitious plate or an altered tag means vehicle isnt lawfully registered to be on the road. By state law, it's impoundable, and our policy and procedures is we inventory every vehicle when impounded. So that's how I would get in there, because if you have an unregistered vehicle, i'm hooking it.

@@BrunoWayne911 - that sucks. crazy too they wont allow impoundment of illegal vehicles on the roadway.

Jeeps are being jacked at a high rate now, especially srts and other higher trims.
Assuming the TX officer did a check on the tag & it didn't show registered, that is reasonable suspicion to detain & investigate. Confirming with a VIN check that it is unregistered & gives probable cause to arrest for altered/fictitious tags/placard. Impound inventory search.
Im a police officer in texas and I am 💯 not searching that car based on the Fictitious tag. You seize the tag issue the ciatiin and move on.
