That's amazing thank you for commenting! He also built the first AME church ever right here in Philly, I want to visit the site but I can't find any info where it was.
@@goodjawn610 I’m planning to go next month for my birthday... I’ve been reading about him for years now ... he has a stamp , an episode on the history channel, I went to a HBCU and my professor brought him up in class! My mother’s maiden name is legit Allen ... I traced him all the way back to my moms town she grew up in ! I learned about Richard Allen here in Texas at my granny house ... He Started The AME Methodist church , Yes! ... and he Chose his last name “Allen” it wasn’t his slave masters surname ... his former slavers last names were Chew and Stirgley ... and it’s said that Grandfather Richard was the first officially filed Manumission papers (emancipation/freedom papers) ... making him the first legit free black from slavery ... He’s supposed to have a museum up there ! I want to see it all ... I had no clue that he had schools and housing project named after him ... I heard an African history lecturer speak on being from “Richard Allen city” and I was like , “is he talking about Papa?” Lol ... so I looked it up and found this video ... this is dope

I've wondered for years why there was never any photos of the 2 high-rise towers at Richard Allen homes till I recently discovered the towers were the "Cambridge" homes on 11th but they shared the same parcel of land.

Lil Willow - Resident from 1958 - 1969. 812a Alder Place. Wow, changed a lot and from what I was told it needed to. Shot out to all my childhood friends. 😊
Look me up on Facebook I've posted a segment on Richard Allen about my wonderful memories of these dwellings. 🥰 Hopefully I can get some old childhood friends to respond.

Ugly 90's urban planning when they tried to suburbanize Nort Philly. Those new homes are so ugly and out of place. The neighborhood is desolate.
