  • This video is Part 1 of tearing down the D44 front axle on the 1987 Grand Wagoneer. It will be getting New 4.10 Gears, so the axles shafts had to be taken out. Perfect time to show people how to remove the brakes, grease cap and spindle/hub components.
    Tools Used in the Video:
    Floor Jack
    (2) 3 Ton Jack Stands
    Rubber Mallet
    Small Sledge Hammer
    Small Chisel
    Large Chisel
    Large Punch
    Pry Bar
    4 Tab Hub Nut Socket
    Large Screwdriver
    Small Wire Brush
    Snap Ring Pliers
    Needle Nose Pliers
    3/8" Drive Ratchet
    3/8" Drive 3" Extension
    3/8" Drive, 3/8" Hex Head socket or Hex Head Wrench
    3/8" Drive, 3/8" Socket
    3/8" drive, 9/16" Socket,
    Disassembly Steps:
    1. Safely Raise and Support the Axle - (3 ton jack stands)
    2. Remove the Tire - (3/4" or 21mm Socket)
    3. Remove the Brake Caliper - (3/8" Hex Head Wrench or Socket)
    4. Clean area around the grease cap - (Small Wire Brush)
    5. Remove Grease Cap - (Rubber Mallet)
    6. Remove Drive Gear Snap Ring - (Snap Ring Pliers)
    7. Remove Drive Gear (Rubber Mallet)
    8. Remove Drive Gear Spacer - (Screw Driver)
    9. Remove Outer Spindle Nut - (Spindle Nut Socket)
    10. Remover Spindle Nut Lock Washer - (Needle Nose Pliers)
    11. Remove Inner Spindle Nut - (Spindle Nut Socket)
    12. Remove the Outer Hub Bearing - (Needle Nose Pliers)
    13. Spray penetrating fluid on the Dust Shield/Spindle Hold down nuts
    14. Remove the 6 hold down nuts - (9/16" socket)
    15. Remove the bolt holding the dust shield to the steering knuckle - (3/8" socket)
    16. Remove the the Dust Shield
    17. Use a punch or chisel to separate the Spindle form the Steering Knuckle
    18. Remove the Spindle from the Steering Knuckle
    19. Remove the Axle Shaft from the Axle.
