Basically they took the naval trainer version of the SU-27 and turned it into a strike fighter/tactical bomber. Not bad but also not fantastic. It does the job.

As of 27th January 2023, 17 Russian SU-34 and 1 SU-34M have been shot down over Ukraine. Another plane shot down may have been another SU-34 but it was too badly damaged to I.D. All this inflicted by a country that barely has an air force.

Russia has lost quite a few of these over Ukraine , at least a dozen maybe 15 or so ? Ps. why obsess about the APU. ? Most if not all airliners have one.

For some strange reason Ukrainian AA systems were/are not the main target and a handful of Fullbacks was lost in the circumstances that, I believe, no aircraft could endure
2. Man, APU is amazing, it's a god's gift. APU provides electricity to all the aircraft systems, sets up the appropriate climate in the cockpit: you'll need all of those for autonomous flight prep.
Autonomous here means that you can land, taxi to the gas station, get some tasty kerosene and fly wherever you want without hours of complex preparation.

An Su34 is extremely reliable, but not invincible. Other planes however... don't make me start with the F35!

@@yuy389 technically the F35 and the Su34 have the same role , CAS. The F35 is set to replace A10's in the near future, the difference is one of them is very good at it and even capable of dogfighting. While the other is not even capable of dropping bombs in the target zone without falling apart in pieces
Many fighter amazing fighter Jets crash, there have been plenty f 16 and f35 crashes that have been semi covered up. This su 34 crash has just been blown out of proportion as a propoganda to undermine Russian air capabilities. This is a good plane, all armies and air forces have the potential to make mistakes like that crash.
