Truth about SU-34 Hell Duck: how it become World's Best Strike Fighter Jet

  • The Russian Aerospace Forces’ Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback strike aircraft, also known by its nickname ‘Hellduck,’ is pretty much an anomaly among military aircraft in production today, with a mission profile that’s close to unique and in many ways a hangover from the Cold War. One aspect that’s notably impressive about the platypus-nosed jet is its ability to carry a staggeringly large amount of fuel for a tactical jet, leading to some potentially very long-range missions, even without aerial refueling. It truly is the king of the fast jets when it comes to how much gas it can lug into the air.
While the Su-34 is, at the DNA level, a member of the Flanker family of fighters, and while it retains a secondary air-to-air capability, its direct origins are as a dedicated strike aircraft - or a tactical bomber in Russian terminology. Studies for a strike-optimized development of the Su-27 Flanker began as early as 1977, with the aim of using as much of the fighter’s airframe as possible but combining it with specialized navigation/attack avionics.

First of all. That's bullshit. Secondly if your going to call a jet versitile you have to consider all modern capabilities and I have yet to see a huge fuck of passenger sized 2 seater jet resemble any stealth nor have I seen it do a VTOL take off or landing. Secondly this aircraft has not actual stand out capabilitys at all. For example ever since the late 70s all American fighters can be equipped with a whole array of precision guided ground strike weapons for example the AGM-65. This has been proven to be a absolute solid, consistent and capable weapon used across all of Americas fighter platforms yet russian fire and forget missiles absolutely suck and the fact that Russian targeting pods are so far and in-between and that they suck doesn't help the matter. The SU-34 is like the only modern jet that has a half decent targeting pod yet throughout its extended use in Ukraine there is absolutely no evidence of it locking and firing missiles that track and hit Ukrainian armoured targets. In fact there is literally no evidence of any of russian jets using fire and forget weapons on armoured columns. The only time they actually engage tanks is with the KA-52 and that's about 13km behind the zero line yet Russia say they have fire and forget weapons with range that surpasses 25km. If these missiles actually lived up to the hype this war would likely be over. A10s would destroy entire columns from 18km away in Iraq with the AGM-65 yet in 2023 the most a SU-34 can do is get a missile to hit a building or something that doesn't even have the potential to move.

It's a strike fighter. Predominantly it's ideal role is air to ground but it can do air to air . It's a very different jet than the American navy F18 superhornet but it's does the same role minus taking off and landing on a carrier . It can fight air to air to get to the target drop bombs , air to ground bombs and air to ground missiles and fight it's way back air to air if it had to . At least in theory.

    • @brookwhiteman9810

People seem to forget that this aircraft supposedly has fire and forget missiles with the range of 30km yet there is no evidence of these missiles being used to hit Ukrainian armoured targets during the SU-34s extended use in Ukraine. The SU-34 is like their only modern jet that has a targeting pod and it's nothing like the telar flir pods NATO fighters have and so target tracking sucks but also literally like 90 percent of NATOs aircraft since the late 70s have come with the ability to use the AGM-65 which is a highly proven and highly successful fire and forget missile yet Russia relys on the KA-52 to launch beam riding missiles from 10km away instead and as of recently they have stopped using this because they lost so many KA-52s that it became counter productive. It's the same with their anti radiation missiles they say that they have them but they never use them. Russia had absolutely everything it needed to take air superiority in Ukraine yet somehow it never came close and now resorts to attacks that are becoming more and more rare because their air bases are coming under fire. Not to mention just 2 days ago they shot their own SU-35 down and days before that one of these SU-34 just crashed for some reason. Russia are losing jets fast but largely to their own pilots and aging airframes.

? I’m not sure I follow, as you seem emphatic and confident; maybe I’m missing something.
The Su-30, Su-33, Su-34, and Su-35 are all derivatives of the Su-27 Flanker. The Shenyang J-16 is derived from the J-11, which in turn has its progenitor in the Sukhoi Su-27.
