I've got this song on tape, on vinyl, on minidisc, on ipod, on iphone, on mp3, on external harddisk and on itunes. Wouldn't want to loose it, you see, I 've been playing this tune at least once a month for over 20 years now. You can call it an anthem:-)
I saw these guys in the 80's at the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis. Snuck my brother in under-age for a super-rare legendary show. Greg had a very cool Echoplex on top of his amp, and kept adjusting it for the different songs. His guitar tone was so much like in the studio. It really was a chilling show. What a memory.
@SamsTown68 - of course it exists. it's just not a corporate pressing, so you can't find it at walmart or amazon dot com. Use your imagination. This is REAL "independent" music. So go to the artist's on distribution website and get it straight from The Wipers. They aren't just saying they're independent cause they can't get a major label contract. They live and breathe true independent values.
It is simply very difficult to find a more underated yet more influential band than the wipers. Thanks for the great music 1999ihatemsic. You obviously don't hate music though ;-)
"It's not the truth I see It's just a mockery Don't need to waste my time You know I've really tried You take and never give Make it so hard to live I'm hangin' on a ledge Push me over the edge Don't do the things you do Don't have to oblige you Makin choices on my own Dont buy their trite or drone Grow up and be a man Drop dead right where you stand I'm hangin' on a ledge Push me over the edge!"🎸🎸🎸
@chiphead777 at least 75% of their songs where self-written, nirvana where freakin awesome, and whenever they covered someone elses songs it was to make hype for the band they where covering
Go to zenorecords DAHT CAHM, go to the record store, and get the $17 box set with the Wipers' first 3 albums and tons of bonus stuff. Support Greg and his music!
@StarpilotSinfony That's right, true artists do not care about money. BUT, any artist has to eat. So do their kids. As you say, the band should make money playing live, this just simply isn't possible for most. They go on tour, and the only money that they see, usually comes from record/t-shirt sales. Most people don't buy records anymore, and as a result a lot of bands just don't tour. Again, I'm not saying don't download, just don't pretend that you are so magnanimous.
Such a cool song. The band had a distinct sound/feel. Their first records are classics. It's cool for new fans to get them in a cheap compilation through Amazon or the band's sight. zenorecords
Money has never contributed to great lyrics. The motivation cannot compare to the motivation of free will and underdogism. Growing up dependent has never taught you real lessons, and may it always prevail when true bands from humble beginnings stay to their roots. They make the best of trees for shade =P So.. what is real? and then theres relevant. Be both. Posting how you hate selling out only shows your fear of low morals. DIG INTO YOUR FEARS!
@despseekingsusan "I hear ya man!", spent + blasted that Hole ep from my car thru most of 2006 - - - my best buds and I still become nostalgic with this song - Holes SUPERIOR version - - - by the way everyone - once Nirvana came forward, this band became kinda beside the point...
@StarpilotSinfony As someone that has played in numerous bands that have toured, across the country/world and has been paid for doing so, this is a total farce. There is no money to be made in playing live unless you are backed by corporate sponsors, are Tragedy, etc....regardless of how talented you are. If you don't have the money to buy an LP, but call a spade a spade. If you disagree, that's fine, I don't go on youtube to pick fights, but your logic is just wrong.
Grunge is a fusion of heavy metal, alt rock, punk, hard rock essentially. Just because bands within a genre don't sound similar doesn't mean they are not within the same genre. Grunge is a genre albeit a fucking terrible one. Over the Edge is punk rock, simple. Talking about art is only dumb when you're talking to bumpkins like you guys lmao.
@StarpilotSinfony also, re: corporate "fucks". What corporate fucks are making money off the wipers? The albums have been controlled by the man himself, Greg Sage, for at least a decade. Any money is going to him. What punk bands have all of their profits going towards corporations? Not many that I know. The bands that deserve to be supported, the DIY bands are the ones that you end up hurting.
@StarpilotSinfony re: Moneygrubber "douche". when you tour across the USA in the winter with a van with no heat, when you come home to an eviction notice after spending all of your money to play your heart out, when you can't hold a steady job because you have to quit to tour the country, when you have to decide whether to eat or to buy a new set of guitar strings, then you can call me a money grubber douche.

Fantastic!!! Stripped down, lean, raw and relentless. Should be the national anthem.

i found them in '83 and they are still one of my favorite bands!
My favorite band during the 80s! Even got to see them twice in one weekend back in 1984 at the Mabuhay (SF)!

I can't believe I never heard this band before. They are great.
14, have no concept of what brilliance this is. For the time it was released and now.
The wipers are so underrated. They are a good psychedelic band.
Uno dei migliori gruppi mai considerati !!!
one time I was sitting outside Satyricon and Greg Sage walked out, didn't see me, and tripped over my foot. Said he was sorry. Had my foot bronzed.
I heard about this song because I love hole and they covered it. This is a great song!!!!

"It's not the truth I see
It's just a mockery
Don't need to waste my time
You know I've really tried
You take and never give
Make it so hard to live
I'm hangin' on a ledge
Push me over the edge
Don't do the things you do
Don't have to oblige you
Makin choices on my own
Dont buy their trite or drone
Grow up and be a man
Drop dead right where you stand
I'm hangin' on a ledge
Push me over the edge!"🎸🎸🎸

I found them in 2006 and now I party every day.
Great song. Im not normally into punk, but i love this one. Does anybody know similar groups/songs ?
Glad I found the original, though Hole did a respectable cover...

@chiphead777 at least 75% of their songs where self-written, nirvana where freakin awesome, and whenever they covered someone elses songs it was to make hype for the band they where covering

I tried to write a song inspired by this song and they sounded way too much a like haha
Neil Young started grunge.

Sorry, there's no one by the name of Kurt in this band.

so. let anyone sing it. who cares about others.

I don't fucking care what you say, this is not punk, this is where grunge begins...
+Ummagumarios fuck you, you pretentious fuck
+Ummagumarios You are both right and wrong at the same time. It's still punk and where grunge begins.
"grunge" was just made up by the media
Perdiminha Conta alice in chains is very punk with that logic
