How do you think Michael Penix Jr. will fit with the Atlanta Falcons?
Perfect fit but he is going to backup Cousins for 2-4 seasons ?? He’ll be almost 30 years old by that time ! smh
@@YouCanChangeYourWorldToday He's 23. He will be 24 in May. If he sits behind Cousins 2-3 years he will be 26 or 27 when he becomes the starter. If he plays till he's 37 or 38 he would be the starter for 10-12 years.
The Falcons have their QB for the present (Cousins) and QB for the future (Penix). So for the next 12-15 years, the Falcons have their QB position settled. It made a lot of sense to take Penix at 8, the best passer in the draft in my opinion. If the Falcons do win the South with Cousins and do well in the Post Season, they would be drafting at the back end of the first round and it's hard to get a QB without trading up into the top 2 or 3. And the cost of doing that can set your franchise back if you miss on who you pick. As a fan, my biggest concern with the Cousins signing was, what happens when Cousins is no longer the QB? Do we go back to being terrible on offense because we have no QB? Penix was the player I wanted before we singed Cousins, and after we signed Cousins and I naturally thought the Falcons would not draft a QB with their first pick (maybe in the second or third round if one of the QB's fell ). I was so surprised by the pick, but am so happy and now the Falcons can focus on all other positions this draft and the upcoming drafts the next few years because they are set at the QB position. This was a brilliant move! I wish more people saw wisdom in making this move . The Falcons have a new HC and coaching staff, and they all want to win, and need to win to keep their jobs. You have to have a QB for that to happen. There was no guarantee that they could find a QB once Cousins is done, so why not draft his successor if he's available? An edge rusher that might get 4 sacks next year, will not bring the long term success that having the QB position set for the next 12-15 years will.
If a healthy Kirk Cousins, or Penix had been the Falcons QB last year, I believe they would have won the South and likely made some noise in the Post Season. It's a QB driven league, and you can't win without one. The Falcons just insured they won't become irrelevant again, once Cousins is no longer the QB. For those reasons, was a great pick!

Lmao, if cousins is good are they just going to move on? And if penix is good they're wasting 2 years of his rookie deal, is awful. And yea let's ignore the dead cap hit cousins will have.
Worst pick ever
Kirk Cousins was not acquired to be the future, he was acquired to win now, he is 35. Penix has overcome is injuries and has been healthy and playing lights out for the past 2 seasons. Who cares how old he will be when he does start. He will still be fresh, with no wear on his body. Tom Brady won a Super Bowl at 27. So these NFL pundits talking points are just stupid. Atlanta solidified their future with a very good QB.
You live in the zoo. If they got cousins to win now why spend a 8th pick on a bench warmer? If penix is the future why waste the majority of hsi rookie deal ? You live in a zoo
