Bishop Barron at World Youth Day | EWTN News Nightly

South Korea is set to host the next World Youth Day in 2027. One Church leader is reflecting on the event's past and its future. Bishop Robert Barron says the event has changed dramatically from even the mid-1990s under Saint John Paul II. But the numbers at the recently completed World Youth Day in Lisbon were promising. The United States sent more than 28,000 people, almost all of whom were between the ages of 18 and 25. EWTN Vatican News Correspondent Colm Flynn, had the chance to speak to Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester. The bishop said, "Young people don't want an uncertain trumpet. They want something clear. We've dumbed down the faith too much for too long in order to be relevant... It's tougher being a young person now. We need Christ more than ever." He discusses the struggles that Catholic youth face and the importance of a Catholic gathering such as World Youth Day.

It may seem like sunsetting days for the Church in the West, but as Bishop Barron points out - the Church is alive, the faith is growing strong in Asia and Africa. Here in Asia, many of us are so grateful to Bishop Barron for his evangelical outreach through social media that reaches far beyond the West. God has blessed him with the ability to transmit light, truth, faith and charity in these moments of doubt and insecurity, relativism and a misguided sense of tolerance. Praying every day for his ministry.

WYD is a waste of time, money and energy. Local/regional pilgrimages would be a better way of providing ongoing Catholic education and evangelization to young people. Two or three groups from across the country could meet with speakers, Adoration, education on prayer.

Bishop Baron, I sense that those amazing young catholics came to this event and found nothing more than entertainment,dj priest, inappropriate dancing in front of the so-called altar, Holy Lord Jesus, kept in plastic containers under tents, etc... despite probably the millions of dollars spent for this event. Where is the beauty and reverence of the Catholic faith???
